Joshua 24
1 And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
Josué convocó a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem. Luego llamó a los ancianos, a los líderes, a los jueces y a los funcionarios, y vinieron y se pusieron de pie ante el Tabernáculo de Dios.
2 And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Yhwh God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the River in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods.
Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: “El Señor, el Dios de Israel, dice esto: ‘Hace mucho, mucho tiempo, tus antepasados, incluso Taré, padre de Abraham y de Nacor, vivían más allá del río Éufrates, y adoraban a otros dioses.
3 And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
Yo traje a tu padre Abraham desde el otro lado del Éufrates y lo conduje por toda la tierra de Canaán y le di muchos descendientes. Le di a Isaac.
4 And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
A Isaac le di Jacob y Esaú. A Esaú le di en propiedad la región montañosa de Seír, pero Jacob y sus hijos bajaron a Egipto.
5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
“Envié a Moisés y a Aarón, e hice caer plagas sobre el pueblo de Egipto, y te saqué a ti.
6 And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
Sí, saqué a tus antepasados, pero cuando llegaste al Mar Rojo los egipcios perseguían a tus antepasados con carros y jinetes.
7 And when they cried unto Yhwh, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
Tus antepasados le pidieron ayuda al Señor, y él puso la oscuridad entre ustedes y los egipcios. Luego hizo que el mar volviera sobre ellos y se ahogaron. Viste con tus propios ojos lo que hizo en Egipto. Luego vivieron muchos años en el desierto.
8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
“Después te llevé a la tierra de los amorreos que vivían al otro lado del Jordán. Ellos lucharon contra ti, pero te los entregué para que los derrotaras y te apoderaras de su tierra. Yo los destruí delante de ti.
9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
“Cuando Balac, hijo de Zipor, el rey de Moab, quiso luchar contra Israel, mandó a llamar a Balaam, hijo de Beor, para que viniera a maldecirte.
10 But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.
Pero no estaba dispuesto a escuchar a Balaam, así que en su lugar te bendijo repetidamente y te salvó de Balac.
11 And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
“Cruzaste el Jordán y llegaste a Jericó, donde los hombres de Jericó lucharon contra ti. También lo hicieron los amorreos, los ferezeos, los cananeos, los hititas, los gergeseos, los heveos y los jebuseos.
12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
Pero te los entregué para que los derrotaras. Y envié al hornete delante de ti para que expulsara a los dos reyes de los amorreos. ¡No ganaron con sus propias espadas y arcos!
13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
Les di una tierra por la que no trabajaron y ciudades que no construyeron. Ahora viven en ellas y comen de viñas y olivares que no plantaron’.
14 Now therefore fear Yhwh, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, and in Egypt; and serve ye Yhwh.
“Así que respeten al Señor y adórenlo, sincera y fielmente. Desháganse de los dioses que sus antepasados adoraron más allá del Éufrates y en Egipto, y adoren al Señor.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve Yhwh, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Yhwh.
Pero si no quieren adorar al Señor, ¡elijan hoy a quién quieren adorar! ¿Adorarána los dioses que adoraron sus antepasados más allá del Éufrates? ¿O a los dioses de los amorreos en cuya tierra viven ahora? Pero yo y mi familia adoraremos al Señor”.
16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake Yhwh, to serve other gods;
El pueblo respondió: “¡Nunca abandonaremos al Señor ni adoraremos a otros dioses!
17 For Yhwh our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
Porque el Señor, nuestro Dios, nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros antepasados de la esclavitud en Egipto. Él fue quien hizo grandes milagros ante nuestros ojos. Él cuidó de nosotros en el camino mientras viajábamos por las tierras de muchas naciones.
18 And Yhwh drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve Yhwh; for he is our God.
El Señor expulsó ante nosotros a los amorreos y a todas las demás naciones que habitaban la tierra. Así que adoraremos al Señor, porque es nuestro Dios”.
19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve Yhwh: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
Josué le dijo al pueblo: “Recuerden que el Señor es un Dios santo y celoso. No podrán adorarle, ni perdonará su rebeldía nisus pecados
20 If ye forsake Yhwh, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
si renuncian a él y adoran a dioses extranjeros. Se volverá contra ustedes y los destruirá a pesar de todo el bien que ha hecho por ustedes”.
21 And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve Yhwh.
“¡No digas eso!” respondió el pueblo. “¡Adoraremos al Señor!”
22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you Yhwh, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
Entonces Josué advirtió al pueblo: “Hoy se han convertido en testigos contra ustedes mismos al decir que han elegido adorar al Señor”. “Sí, somos testigos”, respondió el pueblo.
23 Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto Yhwh God of Israel.
“Entonces desháganse de esos dioses extranjeros que tienen y prometan ser leales sólo al Señor, el Dios de Israel”, les dijo Josué.
24 And the people said unto Joshua, Yhwh our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
El pueblo respondió a Josué: “Adoraremos al Señor, nuestro Dios, y le obedeceremos”.
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
Así que Josué hizo un acuerdo solemne entre el pueblo y el Señor ese día en Siquem, obligándolos a seguir todas las leyes e instrucciones del Señor.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of Yhwh.
Josué lo anotó en el Libro de la Ley de Dios, y colocó una gran piedra bajo la encina, cerca del santuario del Señor.
27 And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of Yhwh which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
Josué dijo al pueblo: “Miren esta piedra. Está aquí como testigo contra nosotros, pues ha oído todo lo que el Señor nos ha dicho, y será testigo contra ustedes si alguna vez niegan lo que le han prometido a su Dios”.
28 So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
Entonces Josué despidió al pueblo, enviándolo a sus tierras asignadas.
29 And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yhwh, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
Más tarde, después de todo esto, Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo del Señor, murió a la edad de ciento diez años.
30 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath–serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.
Lo enterraron en Timnat-serah, en la región montañosa de Efraín, al norte del monte Gaas, la tierra que le había sido asignada.
31 And Israel served Yhwh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of Yhwh, that he had done for Israel.
Los israelitas siguieron adorando al Señor durante toda la vida de Josué y durante toda la vida de los ancianos que le sobrevivieron, los que habían visto todo lo que el Señor había hecho por Israel.
32 And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
Los huesos de José, que los israelitas habían traído consigo desde Egipto, los enterraron en Siquem, en el pedazo de tierra que Jacob había comprado a los hijos de Jamor, el padre de Siquem, por cien piezas de plata. Esta tierra fue heredada por los hijos de José.
33 And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, murió y lo enterraron en Guibeá, en la región montañosa de Efraín, tierra que había sido dada a su hijo Finés.
