John 12
1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
Sechs Tage vor dem Passahfest kam Jesus nach Bethanien, wo Lazarus wohnte, den er von den Toten auferweckt hatte.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
Dort richtete man ihm zu Ehren ein Mahl aus. Martha wartete dabei auf, während Lazarus mit ihm einer der Tischgäste war.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
Maria aber nahm ein Pfund kostbaren Salböls aus echter Narde, salbte damit Jesu Füße und trocknete sie mit ihren Haaren ab. Von diesem Salböl duftete das ganze Haus.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
Da sagte einer von seinen Jüngern, Judas aus Kariot, der sein Verräter werden sollte:
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
"Warum hat man dieses Salböl nicht für dreihundert Silberlinge verkauft und das Geld den Armen gegeben?"
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
So sprach er aber nicht, weil er ein Herz für die Armen hatte, sondern weil er ein Dieb war: er hatte die Geldkasse und entwandte von dem, was hineingelegt wurde.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
Jesus erwiderte ihm: "Laß sie gewähren! Sie hat das Salböl für meinen Begräbnistag aufbewahren wollen.
8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
Denn Arme habt ihr allezeit bei euch, doch mich habt ihr nicht allezeit."
9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
Eine große Menge Juden kam (nach Bethanien), als sie erfuhren, Jesus sei dort. Sie fanden sich aber nicht nur Jesu wegen ein, sondern sie wollten auch Lazarus sehen, den er von den Toten auferweckt hatte.
10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
Die Hohenpriester aber berieten darüber, auch Lazarus zu töten,
11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
weil seinetwegen viele Juden sie verließen und an Jesus glaubten.
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Tags darauf ging eine große Schar von Festpilgern auf die Kunde, Jesus sei auf dem Weg nach Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
mit Palmzweigen ihm entgegen unter dem lauten Ruf: "Heil! Gesegnet sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn — er, der König Israels!"
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young donkey, sat thereon; as it is written,
Jesus fand einen jungen Esel und setzte sich darauf. So erfüllte sich das Schriftwort:
15 Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on a donkey’s colt.
Fürchte dich nicht, Tochter Zion! Sieh, dein König kommt und reitet auf einem Eselfüllen!
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
- Damals freilich verstanden seine Jünger die Bedeutung dieser Worte noch nicht. Erst als Jesus zur Herrlichkeit erhoben war, erinnerten sie sich, daß dies von ihm geschrieben stand und sie es so für ihn ausgeführt hatten —.
17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
Die Volksmenge, die bei ihm war, als er Lazarus aus dem Grab rief und ihn von den Toten auferweckte, machte diese Tat bekannt.
18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
Deshalb ging ihm auch jene Schar entgegen, weil sie erfahren hatte, er habe dieses Wunderzeichen getan.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
Die Pharisäer aber sprachen untereinander: "Ihr seht nun deutlich, daß ihr nichts erreicht. Der ganze Pöbel läuft ihm nach!"
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
Unter den Festpilgern waren auch einige Griechen.
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
Diese kamen zu Philippus, der aus Bethsaida in Galiläa stammte, und trugen ihm die Bitte vor: "Herr, wir möchten Jesus kennenlernen."
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
Philippus ging hin und sagte es Andreas. Andreas und Philippus kamen dann und teilten es Jesus mit.
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Die Stunde ist gekommen, wo der Menschensohn verherrlicht werden soll.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ein Weizenkorn, das nicht in die Erde eingesenkt wird und dann abstirbt, bleibt, was es ist: ein einzelnes Korn. Ist es aber abgestorben, so bringt es reiche Frucht.
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. (aiōnios g166)
Sein Leben lieben heißt: es verlieren; sein Leben opfern in dieser Welt heißt: es erhalten fürs ewige Leben. (aiōnios g166)
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
Wer mir dienen will, der folge mir; und wo ich bin, da soll auch mein Diener sein. Wer mir dient, den wird der Vater ehren.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
Jetzt ist meine Seele voller Schauder, und was soll ich sagen? Soll ich beten: Vater, bewahre mich vor dieser Stunde? Nein, denn gerade deshalb bin ich ja bei dieser Stunde angekommen.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Vater, verherrliche deinen Namen!" Da kam eine Stimme vom Himmel: "Ich habe ihn schon verherrlicht und will ihn noch weiter verherrlichen!"
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
Das Volk, das dastand und dies hörte, sprach: "Es hat gedonnert." Andere meinten: "Ein Engel hat mit ihm geredet."
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
Da nahm Jesus das Wort und sagte: "Nicht meinetwegen ist diese Stimme ertönt, sondern euretwegen.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Jetzt ergeht ein Urteil über diese Welt. Jetzt soll der Beherrscher dieser Welt aus ihr hinausgetrieben werden.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Und bin ich erst erhöht von der Erde, so will ich alle Menschen zu mir ziehen."
33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
- Mit diesen Worten wollte er andeuten, welches Todes er sterben sollte. —
34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
Da antwortete ihm das Volk: "Wir haben aus dem Gesetz gelernt, daß der Messias ewig am Leben bleibt. Was soll es da bedeuten, wenn du behauptest: der Menschensohn muß erhöht werden? Wer ist denn dieser Menschensohn?" (aiōn g165)
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Nur noch eine kleine Weile ist das Licht unter euch. Wandelt im Licht, weil ihr's noch habt, damit euch nicht die Finsternis überfalle. Denn wer in der Finsternis wandelt, der weiß nicht, wohin er geht.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
Weil ihr das Licht noch habt, glaubt an das Licht, damit ihr Lichteskinder werdet."
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
Nach diesen Worten ging Jesus weg und verbarg sich vor ihnen. Obwohl er aber so viele Wunderzeichen vor ihnen getan hatte, glaubten sie doch nicht an ihn.
38 That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
Denn es sollte sich das Wort des Propheten Jesaja erfüllen: Herr, wer hat unserer Botschaft geglaubt? Und wem ist der Arm des Herrn offenbar geworden?
39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again,
Darum waren sie unfähig zu glauben, weil Jesaja weiterhin gesagt hat:
40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
Er hat ihre Augen geblendet und ihr Herz verstockt. Denn sie sollen mit ihren Augen nicht sehen und mit ihren Herzen nicht verstehen, so daß sie sich bekehren und ich sie heile.
41 These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
So sprach Jesaja, weil er seine Herrlichkeit (im Geist) sah und (deshalb) von ihm redete.
42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
Gleichwohl aber wurden sogar viele von den Mitgliedern des Hohen Rates an ihn gläubig. Doch der Pharisäer wegen legten sie kein offenes Bekenntnis ab, damit sie nicht in den Bann getan würden.
43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Denn sie wollten lieber bei den Menschen als bei Gott in Ehren stehen.
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
Jesus aber hat laut verkündigt: "Wer an mich glaubt, der glaubt ja nicht an mich, sondern an den, der mich gesandt.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
Und wer mich schaut, der schaut den, der mich gesandt.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
Ich bin als Licht gekommen in die Welt, damit keiner, der an mich glaubt, in der Finsternis bleibe.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Wer meine Worte hört und nicht bewahrt, über den bin ich kein Richter. Denn ich bin nicht gekommen, um die Welt zu richten, sondern um die Welt zu retten.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Wer mich verwirft und meine Worte nicht annimmt, der hat schon seinen Richter: Das Wort, das ich geredet habe, das wird sein Richter sein am Jüngsten Tag.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
Denn ich habe nicht eigenmächtig geredet, sondern der Vater, der mich gesandt, der hat mir aufgetragen, was ich sagen und was ich reden soll.
