Deuteronomy 18
1 The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of Yhwh made by fire, and his inheritance.
Les prêtres lévitiques, la tribu entière de Lévi, n’auront ni part ni héritage avec Israël; ils se nourriront des sacrifices de Yahweh faits par le feu et de son héritage.
2 Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: Yhwh is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.
Ils n’auront point d’héritage au milieu de leurs frères; Yahweh est leur héritage, comme il leur a dit.
3 And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.
Voici quel sera le droit des prêtres sur le peuple, sur ceux qui sacrifieront un bœuf ou une brebis: on donnera au prêtre l’épaule, les mâchoires et l’estomac.
4 The firstfruit also of thy grain, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.
Tu lui donneras les prémices de ton blé, de ton vin nouveau et de ton huile, et les prémices de la toison de tes brebis;
5 For Yhwh thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of Yhwh, him and his sons for ever.
car c’est lui que Yahweh, ton Dieu, a choisi d’entre toutes les tribus pour se tenir devant Yahweh et faire le service au nom de Yahweh, lui et ses fils, à toujours.
6 And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which Yhwh shall choose;
Si un lévite quitte l’une de tes villes, le lieu quelconque du territoire d’Israël où il demeure, pour venir, selon tout le désir de son âme, au lieu qu’aura choisi Yahweh,
7 Then he shall minister in the name of Yhwh his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before Yhwh.
et qu’il fasse le service au nom de Yahweh, son Dieu, comme tous ses frères les lévites qui se tiennent là devant Yahweh,
8 They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.
il aura pour sa nourriture une portion égale à la leur, indépendamment des produits de la vente de son patrimoine.
9 When thou art come into the land which Yhwh thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
Quand tu seras entré dans le pays que te donne Yahweh, ton Dieu, tu n’apprendras pas à imiter les abominations de ces nations-là.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Qu’on ne trouve chez toi personne qui fasse passer par le feu son fils ou sa fille, qui s’adonne à la divination, au augures, aux superstitions et aux enchantements,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
qui ait recours aux charmes, qui consulte les évocateurs et les sorciers, et qui interroge les morts.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto Yhwh: and because of these abominations Yhwh thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Car tout homme qui fait ces choses est en abomination à Yahweh, et c’est à cause de ces abominations que Yahweh, ton Dieu, va chasser ces nations devant toi.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with Yhwh thy God.
Tu seras intègre avec Yahweh, ton Dieu.
14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, Yhwh thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
Car ces nations que tu vas chasser écoutent les augures et les devins; mais à toi, Yahweh, ton Dieu, ne le permet pas.
15 Yhwh thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
Yahweh, ton Dieu, te suscitera du milieu de toi, d’entre tes frères, un prophète tel que moi: vous l’écouterez.
16 According to all that thou desiredst of Yhwh thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Yhwh my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.
C’est ce que tu as demandé à Yahweh, ton Dieu, en Horeb, le jour de l’assemblée, en disant: « Que je n’entende plus la voix de Yahweh, mon Dieu, et que je ne voie plus ce grand feu, de peur de mourir. »
17 And Yhwh said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
Yahweh me dit: « Ce qu’ils ont dit est bien.
18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
Je leur susciterai du milieu de leurs frères un prophète tel que toi; je mettrai mes paroles dans sa bouche, et il leur dira tout ce que je lui commanderai.
19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
Et si quelqu’un n’écoute pas mes paroles qu’il dira en mon nom, c’est moi qui lui en demanderai compte.
20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
Mais le prophète qui s’enorgueillira jusqu’à dire en mon nom une parole que je ne lui aurai pas commandé de dire, ou qui parlera au nom d’autres dieux, ce prophète-là mourra. »
21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which Yhwh hath not spoken?
Que si tu dis dans ton cœur: « Comment reconnaîtrons-nous la parole que Yahweh n’aura pas dite? »…,
22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of Yhwh, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Yhwh hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
quand le prophète aura parlé au nom de Yahweh, si ce qu’il a dit n’arrive pas et ne se réalise pas, c’est là la parole que Yahweh n’a pas dite; c’est par l’orgueil que le prophète l’a dite: tu n’auras pas peur de lui.
