2 Chronicles 32
1 After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.
По цих справах та по цій вірності прийшов Санхері́в, цар асирійський, і ввійшов в Юдею, і розклався табо́ром проти укрі́плених міст, і ду́мав здобути їх собі.
2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
І побачив Єзекі́я, що прийшов Санхері́в, і що він заду́мує війну на Єрусалим,
3 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.
то він нара́дився зо своїми зверхниками та своїми ли́царями позатика́ти джере́льні во́ди, що назовні міста. І вони допомогли йому.
4 So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
І було зі́брано багато народу, і вони позатика́ли всі джере́ла й поті́к, що плив у Краю́, говорячи: „На́що б мали так багато води асирійські царі, коли при́йдуть?“
5 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.
І він підбадьорився, і забудував увесь ви́ломаний мур, і поставив на нього ба́шту, а поза тим муром — інший мур, і зміцни́в Мілло в Давидовому Місті, і наробив багато ра́тищ та щиті́в.
6 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,
І понаставляв він над народом військо́вих зверхників, і зібрав їх до себе, на майда́н біля місько́ї брами, і промовляв до їхнього серця, говорячи:
7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
„Будьте міцні́ та будьте мужні, не бійтеся й не жахайтеся перед асирійським царем та перед усім тим на́товпом, що з ним, бо з нами більше, ніж із ним.
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yhwh our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
З ним раме́но тіле́сне, а з нами Господь, Бог наш, щоб допомагати нам та воюва́ти наші ві́йни!“І оперся народ на слова Єзекії, Юдиного царя.
9 After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him, ) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
По цьому послав Санхері́в, асирійський цар, своїх рабів до Єрусалиму, — а він сам таборува́в проти Лахішу, і вся сила його була́ з ним, — до Єзекії, Юдиного царя, і до всього Юди, що в Єрусалимі, сказати:
10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?
„Так говорить Санхері́в, цар асирійський: На що́ ви сподіва́єтесь і сидите в обло́зі в Єрусалимі?
11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, Yhwh our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Оце Єзекія намовляє вас, щоб дати вас на смерть від голоду та від спра́ги, кажучи: Господь, Бог наш, урятує нас від руки асирійського царя.
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
Чи ж не він, Єзекія, поруйнував па́гірки його та же́ртівники його, і сказав до Юди та до Єрусалиму, говорячи: Перед одним же́ртівником будете вклонятися й на ньому бу́дете кадити?
13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
Чи ж ви не знаєте, що́ зробив я та батьки мої всім наро́дам земель? Чи справді могли бо́ги наро́дів тих країв урятувати свій край від моєї руки?
14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
Хто́ з-поміж усіх богів цих народів, яких мої батьки вчинили закляттям, міг урятувати свій народ від моєї руки? Як зможе Бог ваш урятувати вас від моєї руки?
15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
А тепер нехай не обманює вас Єзекія, і нехай не зво́дить вас, як оце. І не вірте йому, бо не зміг жо́ден бог жо́дного наро́ду та царства врятувати свого народу від моєї руки та від руки батьків моїх, то тим більше ваші бо́ги не врятують вас від моєї руки!“
16 And his servants spake yet more against Yhwh God, and against his servant Hezekiah.
І ще говорили його раби на Господа, Бога, та на Його раба Єзекію.
17 He wrote also letters to rail on Yhwh God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
І писав він листи́ з ла́йкою на Господа, Ізраїлевого Бога, і говорив на Нього таке: „Як бо́ги народів тих країв не спасли свого народу від моєї руки, так не спасе Єзекіїн Бог народу Свого від моєї руки!“
18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
І кли́кали вони сильним голосом по-юде́йському до єрусалимського народу, що був на мурі, щоб настраши́ти їх та налякати їх, щоб здобути місто.
19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.
І говорили вони на Бога єрусалимського, як на богі́в землі, чин лю́дських рук.
20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.
І молився цар Єзекія та пророк Ісая, син Амосів, про це, і кликали до неба.
21 And Yhwh sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.
І послав Господь Ангола, і він вигубив кожного хороброго вояка́, і володаря, і зве́рхника в табо́рі царя асирійського, і той вернувся з со́ромом обличчя до кра́ю свого. А коли він прийшов до дому бога свого, то дехто з тих, що вийшли з нутра́ його, вбили його там мече́м.
22 Thus Yhwh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
І спас Господь Єзекію та єрусалимських ме́шканців від руки Санхеріва, царя асирійського, та від руки всякого, і дав їм мир навко́ло.
23 And many brought gifts unto Yhwh to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.
І багато-хто прино́сили да́ра для Господа до Єрусалиму та дорогоцінні речі для Єзекії, Юдиного царя. І він по цьо́му піднісся в оча́х усіх наро́дів!
24 In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto Yhwh: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
Тими днями занеду́жав Єзекія смертельно. І він молився до Господа, — і Він відповів йому, і дав йому знака.
25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
Та Єзекія не віддав так, як було зро́блено йому, бо запишни́лося серце його. І був гнів Божий на нього, і на Юдею, та на Єрусали́м.
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yhwh came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
Але впокори́вся Єзекія в пишноті серця свого, він та ме́шканці Єрусалиму, — і не прийшов на них Господній гнів за днів Єзекії.
27 And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
І було в Єзекії дуже багато багатства та слави, і він поробив собі скарбни́ці на срібло й на золото, та на камінь дорогий, і на па́хощі, і на щити́, і на всякі дорогі речі,
28 Storehouses also for the increase of grain, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.
і клуні́ на врожай збі́жжя, і виноградного соку, і свіжої оливи, і жолоби́ для всякої худоби, і жолоби́ для чері́д.
29 Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
І побудував він собі міста́, і мав великий набу́ток худоби дрібно́ї та худоби великої, бо Бог дав йому́ дуже великий маєток.
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
І він, Єзекія, заткнув вихід води горі́шнього Ґіхону, і вивів її вдоли́ну на за́хід від Давидового Міста. І мав Єзекія у́спіх в усіх своїх діла́х.
31 Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
Тільки при посла́х вавилонських зверхників, посланих до нього, щоб вивідати про чудо, що було в Краю́, залишив був його Бог, щоб ви́пробувати його, щоб пізнати все в його серці.
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
А решта діл Єзекії та його чесно́ти, — ото вони описані в видіннях пророка Ісаї, Амосового сина, у Книзі Царів Юдиних та Ізраїлевих.
33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
І спочив Єзекія з батьками своїми, і поховали його на узбі́ччях гробі́в Давидових синів, і віддали́ йому честь по смерті його, — уся Юдея та ме́шканці Єрусалиму. А замість нього зацарював син його Манасі́я.
