2 Chronicles 28

1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of Yhwh, like David his father:

আহস কুড়ি বছর বয়সে রাজা হলেন, এবং জেরুশালেমে তিনি ষোলো বছর রাজত্ব করলেন। তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষ দাউদের মতো তিনি সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যা যা ভালো, তা করেননি।

2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.

তিনি ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের পথে চলেছিলেন এবং বায়াল-দেবতাদের পূজার্চনার জন্য তিনি প্রতিমার মূর্তিও তৈরি করলেন।

3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom Yhwh had cast out before the children of Israel.

বিন-হিন্নোম উপত্যকায় তিনি পশুবলি দিয়ে সেগুলি জ্বালিয়ে দিতেন এবং সদাপ্রভু যে পরজাতিদের ইস্রায়েলীদের সামনে থেকে দূর করে দিলেন, তাদেরই ঘৃণ্য প্রথানুসারে তিনি তাঁর নিজের সন্তানদের বলিরূপে উৎসর্গ করলেন।

4 He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

প্রতিমাপুজোর উঁচু উঁচু স্থানগুলিতে, পাহাড়ের চূড়ায় ও ডালপালা বিস্তার করা প্রত্যেকটি গাছের তলায় তিনি বলি উৎসর্গ করলেন ও ধূপ জ্বালিয়েছিলেন।

5 Wherefore Yhwh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

তাই তাঁর ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে অরামের রাজার হাতে সঁপে দিলেন। অরামীয়েরা তাঁকে পরাজিত করল এবং তাঁর প্রজাদের মধ্যে অনেককে বন্দি করল ও তাদের দামাস্কাসে নিয়ে গেল। তাঁকে সেই ইস্রায়েলের রাজার হাতেও সঁপে দেওয়া হল, যিনি তাঁর অনেক লোকজনকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন।

6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken Yhwh God of their fathers.

রমলিয়ের ছেলে পেকহ একদিনেই যিহূদায় 1,20,000 সৈন্যকে হত্যা করলেন—কারণ যিহূদা তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে পরিত্যাগ করল।

7 And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.

ইফ্রয়িমীয় এক যোদ্ধা সিখ্রি রাজপুত্র মাসেয়কে, প্রাসাদের তত্ত্বাবধায়ক কর্মকর্তা অস্রীকামকে, এবং রাজার পর দ্বিতীয় স্থানে থাকা ইল্‌কানাকে হত্যা করল।

8 And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা যিহূদায় বসবাসকারী তাদেরই জাতভাই ইস্রায়েলীদের কাছ থেকে স্ত্রী, ছেলে ও মেয়ে মিলিয়ে মোট দুই লাখ লোককে বন্দি করল। এছাড়াও তারা প্রচুর পরিমাণে লুটসামগ্রীও দখল করে সেগুলি শমরিয়ায় বয়ে নিয়ে গেল।

9 But a prophet of Yhwh was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the army that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because Yhwh God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.

কিন্তু ওদেদ নামে সদাপ্রভুর একজন ভাববাদী সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন, এবং সৈন্যদল যখন শমরিয়ায় ফিরে এসেছিল, তখন তিনি তাদের সাথে দেখা করতে গেলেন। তিনি তাদের বললেন, “যেহেতু তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যিহূদার উপর ক্রুদ্ধ হলেন, তাই তিনি তাদের তোমাদের হাতে তুলে দিয়েছেন। কিন্তু রাগের বশে তোমরা এমনভাবে তাদের কোতল করেছ যে তার রেশ স্বর্গ পর্যন্ত পৌঁছে গিয়েছে।

10 And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against Yhwh your God?

এখন আবার তোমরা যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমের পুরুষ ও মহিলাদের ক্রীতদাস-দাসী করতে চাইছ। কিন্তু তোমরাও কি তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে করা পাপের দোষে দোষী নও?

11 Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of Yhwh is upon you.

এখন আমার কথা শোনো! তোমাদের জাতভাই যেসব ইস্রায়েলীকে তোমরা বন্দি করে এনেছ, তাদের ফেরত পাঠিয়ে দাও, কারণ সদাপ্রভুর ভয়ংকর ক্রোধ তোমাদের উপর অবস্থান করছে।”

12 Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,

তখন ইফ্রয়িমের নেতাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন—যিহোহাননের ছেলে অসরিয়, মশিল্লোমোতের ছেলে বেরিখিয়, শল্লুমের ছেলে যিহিষ্কিয়, ও হদলয়ের ছেলে অমাসা—সেই লোকদের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন, যারা যুদ্ধ করে ফিরে এসেছিল।

13 And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against Yhwh already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.

“তোমরা এই বন্দিদের এখানে আনবে না,” তারা বললেন, “তা না হলে আমরাই সদাপ্রভুর কাছে দোষী হয়ে যাব। আমরা যত পাপ ও অপরাধ করেছি, তার সাথে কি তোমরা এই পাপটিও যোগ করতে চাইছ? কারণ আমাদের পাপের পরিমাণ ইতিমধ্যেই অনেক বেড়ে গিয়েছে, আর ইস্রায়েলের উপর তাঁর ক্রোধ অবস্থান করে আছে।”

14 So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.

অতএব সৈনিকরা বন্দিদের ও লুটসামগ্রীগুলি কর্মকর্তাদের ও সমগ্র জনসমাজের সামনে এনে রেখেছিল।

15 And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.

যাদের নামোল্লেখ করা হয়েছে, তারা লুটসামগ্রী থেকে কাপড়চোপড় নিয়ে বন্দিদের মধ্যে যাদের পরনে কাপড় ছিল না, তাদের উলঙ্গতা ঢেকে দিলেন। তারা তাদের কাপড়চোপড়, চটিজুতো, খাবারদাবার, ও ব্যথা কমানোর মলম দিলেন। যারা যারা শারীরিক দিক থেকে দুর্বল ছিল, তাদের গাধার পিঠে বসিয়ে দেওয়া হল। এইভাবে তারা খেজুর গাছের নগর যিরীহোতে, তাদের জাতভাই ইস্রায়েলীদের কাছে তাদের পৌঁছে দিলেন, এবং পরে শমরিয়ায় ফিরে এলেন।

16 At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

সেই সময় রাজা আহস সাহায্য চেয়ে আসিরিয়ার রাজাদের কাছে লোক পাঠালেন।

17 For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.

ইদোমীয়েরা আবার এসে যিহূদাকে আক্রমণ করল এবং লোকদের বন্দি করে নিয়ে গেল,

18 The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth–shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.

অন্যদিকে আবার ফিলিস্তিনীরা পাহাড়ের পাদদেশে ও যিহূদার নেগেভে অবস্থিত নগরগুলিতে হানা দিয়েছিল। তারা বেত-শেমশ, অয়ালোন ও গদেরোতের সাথে সাথে সোখো, তিম্না ও গিমসো এবং সেখানকার চারপাশের গ্রামগুলিও দখল করে সেগুলিতে বসবাস করতে শুরু করল।

19 For Yhwh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against Yhwh.

ইস্রায়েল-রাজ আহসের জন্যই সদাপ্রভু যিহূদাকে নত করলেন, কারণ যিহূদায় আহস অসদাচারের উদ্যোক্তা হলেন এবং সদাপ্রভুর প্রতি সবচেয়ে বেশি অবিশ্বস্ত হলেন।

20 And Tilgath–pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

আসিরিয়ার রাজা তিগ্লৎ-পিলেষর তাঁর কাছে এলেন, কিন্তু তিনি আহসকে সাহায্য না করে বরং তাঁকে কষ্টই দিলেন।

21 For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of Yhwh, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.

সদাপ্রভুর মন্দির থেকে এবং রাজপ্রাসাদ থেকে ও কর্মকর্তাদের কাছ থেকে আহস বেশ কিছু জিনিসপত্র নিয়ে সেগুলি আসিরিয়ার রাজাকে উপহার দিলেন, কিন্তু তাতেও তাঁর কোনও লাভ হয়নি।

22 And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Yhwh: this is that king Ahaz.

তাঁর এই কষ্টের সময় রাজা আহস সদাপ্রভুর প্রতি আরও বেশি অবিশ্বস্ত হয়ে গেলেন।

23 For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

তিনি দামাস্কাসের সেই দেবতাদের কাছে বলি উৎসর্গ করলেন, যারা তাঁকে পরাজিত করল; কারণ তিনি ভেবেছিলেন, “যেহেতু অরামের রাজাদের দেবতারা তাদের সাহায্য করেছে, তাই আমিও তাদের কাছে বলি উৎসর্গ করব, যেন তারা আমাকেও সাহায্য করে।” কিন্তু তারাই তাঁর ও সমগ্র ইস্রায়েলের পতনের কারণ হল।

24 And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of Yhwh, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

আহস ঈশ্বরের মন্দির থেকে আসবাবপত্রাদি সংগ্রহ করে সেগুলি কেটে টুকরো টুকরো করে দিলেন। সদাপ্রভুর মন্দিরের দরজা তিনি বন্ধ করে দিলেন এবং জেরুশালেমের প্রত্যেকটি রাস্তার কোনায় কোনায় তিনি যজ্ঞবেদি খাড়া করে দিলেন।

25 And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger Yhwh God of his fathers.

যিহূদার প্রত্যেকটি নগরে অন্যান্য দেবতাদের উদ্দেশে বলির পশু পোড়ানোর জন্য তিনি পূজার্চনার উঁচু উঁচু স্থান তৈরি করে দিলেন এবং তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ জাগিয়ে তুলেছিলেন।

26 Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত, তাঁর রাজত্বকালের অন্যান্য সব ঘটনা ও তাঁর সব কাজকর্মের বিবরণ যিহূদা ও ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের পুস্তকে লেখা আছে।

27 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

আহস তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সাথে চিরবিশ্রামে শায়িত হলেন এবং তাঁকে জেরুশালেম নগরেই কবর দেওয়া হল, কিন্তু ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের কবরে তাঁকে রাখা হয়নি। তাঁর ছেলে হিষ্কিয় রাজারূপে তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন।
