2 Chronicles 17
1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
アサの子ヨシャパテがアサに代って王となり、イスラエルに向かって自分を強くし、
2 And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
ユダのすべての堅固な町々に軍隊を置き、またユダの地およびその父アサが取ったエフライムの町々に守備隊を置いた。
3 And Yhwh was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;
主はヨシャパテと共におられた。彼がその父ダビデの最初の道に歩んで、バアルに求めず、
4 But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
その父の神に求めて、その戒めに歩み、イスラエルの行いにならわなかったからである。
5 Therefore Yhwh stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
それゆえ、主は国を彼の手に堅く立てられ、またユダの人々は皆ヨシャパテに贈り物を持ってきた。彼は大いなる富と誉とを得た。
6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of Yhwh: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
そこで彼は主の道に心を励まし、さらに高き所とアシラ像とをユダから除いた。
7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben–hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
彼はまたその治世の三年に、つかさたちベネハイル、オバデヤ、ゼカリヤ、ネタンエルおよびミカヤをつかわしてユダの町々で教えさせ、
8 And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob–adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
また彼らと共にレビびとのうちからシマヤ、ネタニヤ、ゼバデヤ、アサヘル、セミラモテ、ヨナタン、アドニヤ、トビヤ、トバドニヤをつかわし、またこれらのレビびとと共に祭司エリシャマとヨラムをもつかわした。
9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of Yhwh with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
彼らは主の律法の書を携えて、ユダで教をなし、またユダの町々をことごとく巡回して、民の間に教をなした。
10 And the fear of Yhwh fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
そこでユダの周囲の国々は皆主を恐れ、ヨシャパテと戦うことをしなかった。
11 Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
また、ペリシテびとのうちで贈り物や、みつぎの銀をヨシャパテの所に持ってくる者があり、またアラビヤびとは雄羊七千七百頭、雄やぎ七千七百頭を彼に持ってきた。
12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
こうしてヨシャパテはますます大いになり、ユダに要害および倉の町を建て、
13 And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.
ユダの町々に多くの軍需品を持ち、またエルサレムに大勇士である軍人たちを持っていた。
14 And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.
彼らをその氏族によって数えれば次のとおりである。すなわちユダから出た千人の長のうちでは、アデナという軍長と彼に従う大勇士三十万人、
15 And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.
その次は軍長ヨハナンと彼に従う者二十八万人、
16 And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Yhwh; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.
その次は喜んでその身を主にささげた者ジクリの子アマジヤと彼に従う大勇士二十万人。
17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
ベニヤミンから出た者のうちでは、エリアダという大勇士と彼に従う弓および盾を持つ者二十万人、
18 And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.
その次はヨザバデと彼に従う戦いの備えある者十八万人である。
19 These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
これらは皆王に仕える者たちで、このほかにまたユダ全国の堅固な町々に、王が駐在させた者があった。
