< Psalms 9 >

1 I will praise thee, O YHWH, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
[For the choir director; according to Muth-labben. A Psalm by David.] I will give thanks to Jehovah with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.
4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.
For you have upheld my just cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.
5 Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.
The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin; and the very memory of the cities which you have overthrown has perished.
7 But YHWH shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.
But Jehovah reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.
8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.
And he will judge the world in righteousness. He will judge the peoples with equity.
9 YHWH also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Jehovah will also be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, YHWH, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
And those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Jehovah, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing praises to YHWH, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.
Sing praises to Jehovah, who dwells in Zion, and declare among the people what he has done.
12 When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.
For he who takes revenge against murderers remembers them. He doesn't forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 Have mercy upon me, O YHWH; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:
Have mercy on me, Jehovah. See my affliction by those who hate me. You lift me up from the gates of death,
14 That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.
so that I may tell all your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in your salvation.
15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.
The nations have fallen into the pit they had made. In the net which they hid, their feet are caught.
16 YHWH is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. (Higgaion, Selah)
Jehovah has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. (Higgaion, Selah)
17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget Elohim. (Sheol h7585)
The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God. (Sheol h7585)
18 For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.
For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.
19 Arise, O YHWH; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight.
Arise, Jehovah. Do not let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your presence.
20 Put them in fear, O YHWH: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. (Selah)
Terrify them, Jehovah. Let the nations know that they are only human. (Selah)
