< Psalms 123 >

1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
A Canticle in steps. I have lifted up my eyes to you, who dwells in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon YHWH our Elohim, until that he have mercy upon us.
Behold, as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress, so our eyes are upon the Lord our God, until he may be merciful to us.
3 Have mercy upon us, O YHWH, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. For we have been filled with utter disdain.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
For our soul has been greatly filled. We are the disgrace of those who have abundance and the disdain of the arrogant.
