< Proverbs 20 >

1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Mmanya bụ onye na-akwa emo. Onye mkpọtụ ka ihe ọṅụṅụ na-aba nʼanya bụ. Onye ọbụla kwere ka ha duhie ya bụ onye nzuzu.
2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
Ọnụma eze na-emenye oke ụjọ nʼahụ dịka mbigbọ nke ọdụm; ndị na-akpasu ya iwe ga-atụfu ndụ ha.
3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
Ọ bụ ihe nsọpụrụ nye onye na-ezere okwu na ụka, ma onye nzuzu ọbụla na-eme ngwa ise okwu.
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Onye umengwụ adịghị arụ ọrụ ubi nʼoge ya. Nʼoge owuwe ihe ubi ọ pụghị ịchọta ihe oriri.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Nzube niile nke dị mmadụ nʼobi bụ mmiri dị omimi, ma onye nwere nghọta na-adọpụta ha.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
Ọtụtụ mmadụ na-asị na ha nwere ịhụnanya na-adịghị agharịpụ, ma onye kwesiri ntụkwasị obi, onye pụrụ ịchọta ya?
7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
Onye ezi omume nke na-ejegharị nʼizuoke, ndị ihe na-agara nke ọma ka ụmụ ga-anọchi ya ga-abụ.
8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
Mgbe eze na-anọkwasị nʼocheeze ya ikpe ikpe, ọ na-eji anya ya abụọ afụchapụ ihe ọjọọ niile.
9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Onye pụrụ ị sị, “Emeela m ka obi m dị ọcha; Abụ m onye dị ọcha, mmehie adịghịkwa nʼime m?”
10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to YHWH.
Ihe ọtụtụ aghụghọ na ihe ọtụtụ nghọgbu, ha niile bụ ihe arụ nʼihu Onyenwe anyị.
11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Ọbụladị ụmụntakịrị ka a na-amata site nʼomume ha niile, nke a ọ pụtara nʼomume ha dị ọcha nʼezie a, bụrụkwa ihe ziri ezi?
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, YHWH hath made even both of them.
Ntị nke na-anụ ihe na anya nke na-ahụ ụzọ, ọ bụ Onyenwe anyị mere ha abụọ.
13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
Ahụla ịrahụ ụra nʼanya, ka ị ghara ịghọ onye ụkpa. Bilie, mụrụ anya, rụsie ọrụ ike, ka i nweekwa ihe oriri.
14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
“Lee, ihe a jọrọ njọ, ọ baghị uru,” ka onye na-azụ ahịa na-asị, ma mgbe ọ pụrụ ọ na-anya isi nʼihi ihe ọ zụtara.
15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
Ọlaedo dị, na ọtụtụ rubi nʼebe ọ bara ụba, ma egbugbere ọnụ nke na-ekwupụta ihe ọmụma bụ ọla dị oke ọnụahịa.
16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
Chiri uwe onye ahụ naara onye mba ọzọ nʼaka mbe. Jichiekwa ihe mbe ahụ o nyere nʼihi onye mba ọzọ ọ nara na mbe.
17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
Nri e nwetara nʼụzọ aghụghọ na-atọ mmadụ ụtọ. Ma nʼikpeazụ aja ga-eju ya ọnụ.
18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
Buru ụzọ nata ndụmọdụ tupu i mee ihe ọbụla ị chọrọ ime; ebula agha ma i bubeghị ụzọ pịa ọpịpịa.
19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
Agwala onye na-akpa asịrị ihe nzuzo gị, nʼihi na ọ ga-akụ ya nʼekwe nye ụwa niile.
20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
Oriọna onye ahụ na-akọcha nne ya na nna ya ka Chineke na-afụnyụ.
21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
Ihe nketa nke anatara nʼoke ọsịịsọ, agaghị agọzi ya nʼikpeazụ.
22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on YHWH, and he shall save thee.
A sịkwala, “Aga m akwụghachi gị nʼihi ihe ọjọọ a.” Chere Onyenwe anyị, ọ ga-abọrọ gị ọbọ.
23 Divers weights are an abomination unto YHWH; and a false balance is not good.
Onyenwe anyị kpọrọ ihe ọtụtụ gbara iche iche asị, ihe ọtụtụ aghụghọ adịghị atọ ya ụtọ.
24 Man's goings are of YHWH; how can a man then understand his own way?
Onyenwe anyị na-eduzi nzọ ụkwụ niile nke mmadụ. Olee otu onye ọbụla ga-esi ghọta ụzọ ha?
25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make inquiry.
Ime ngwangwa doo ihe nsọ, bụ ịma nʼọnya ma mesie tụgharịwa uche banyere imezu nkwa ahụ.
26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
Eze maara ihe na-afụchapụ ndị ajọ omume, ọ na-eji wịịlu ịfụcha mkpụrụ gaa nʼelu ha.
27 The spirit of man is the candle of YHWH, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Akọnuche mmadụ bụ ọkụ Onyenwe anyị ji enyocha mmụọ ya, ọ na-egwupụta ala ala obi ya, igosi anyị ihe anyị bụ.
28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
Ịhụnanya na ikwesi ntụkwasị obi na-echebe eze, site nʼịhụnanya ka ocheeze ya na-eguzo chịm.
29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
Ugwu a na-akwanyere ụmụ okorobịa bụ nʼihi ịdị ike ha, ma isi awọ bụ nsọpụrụ ndị okenye.
30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
Ọkpọ na mmerụ ahụ na-ehichapụ ihe ọjọọ, ụtarị na-asachapụ ime ime nke ahụ mmadụ.
