Proverbs 19
1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
Besser ein Armer, der in seiner Unsträflichkeit wandelt, als wer verkehrte Lippen hat und dabei ein Thor ist.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Schon im Mangel an einsichtigem Sinne liegt nichts Gutes; wer aber hastig vorgeht, der tritt fehl.
3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against YHWH.
Des Menschen eigene Narrheit zerstört seinen Weg, aber wider Jahwe tobt sein Herz.
4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
Der Reichtum schafft immer mehr Freunde; wer aber gering ist, von dem trennt sich sein Freund.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
Ein falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht straflos, und wer Lügen vorbringt, entrinnt nicht.
6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Viele buhlen um des Vornehmen Gunst, und wer Geschenke giebt, hat jedermann zum Freunde.
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
Den Armen hassen alle seine Brüder; wie viel mehr halten sich seine Freunde von ihm fern.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Wer Verstand erwirbt, liebt sein Leben; wer Vernunft bewahrt, wird Glück finden.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
Ein falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht straflos, und wer Lügen vorbringt, kommt um.
10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
Einem Thoren ziemt nicht Wohlleben, geschweige denn einem Sklaven, über Fürsten zu herrschen.
11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
Des Menschen Klugheit macht ihn langmütig, und es ist ein Ruhm für ihn, daß er Vergehung übersieht.
12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
Wie eines Jungleuen Brüllen ist der Groll des Königs, aber wie Tau auf Pflanzen sein Wohlwollen.
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
Ein rechtes Unglück für seinen Vater ist ein thörichter Sohn, und eine stets rinnende Dachtraufe ist des Weibes Gekeif.
14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a prudent wife is from YHWH.
Haus und Habe erbt man von den Vätern, aber von Jahwe kommt ein verständiges Weib.
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Faulheit versenkt in tiefen Schlaf, und ein Lässiger wird Hunger leiden.
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
Wer das Gebot bewahrt, der bewahrt sein Leben, wer aber seiner Wege nicht achtet, wird sterben.
17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto YHWH; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Wer sich des Geringen erbarmt, der leiht Jahwe, und seine Gutthat wird er ihm vergelten.
18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
Züchtige deinen Sohn, denn noch ist Hoffnung vorhanden; aber bis dahin, daß du ihn tötest, versteige dich nicht in deinem Sinn.
19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
Wer jähzornig ist, muß Buße zahlen; denn wenn du retten willst, wirst du's nur noch schlimmer machen.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Höre auf Rat und nimm Zucht an, auf dass du in Zukunft weise seist.
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of YHWH, that shall stand.
Viele Anschläge sind in eines Mannes Herzen, aber Jahwes Ratschluß, der wird bestehn!
22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
Ein Mensch hat Lust an seiner Wohlthat, und besser ist ein Armer als ein Lügenhafter.
23 The fear of YHWH tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Die Furcht Jahwes gereicht zum Leben; so kann man gesättigt übernachten, wird von keinem Unglück heimgesucht.
24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Steckt der Faule seine Hand in die Schüssel, mag er sie nicht einmal zum Munde zurückbringen.
25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Schlägst du den Spötter, so wird der Einfältige gescheid, und weist man einen Verständigen zurecht, so wird er Einsicht begreifen.
26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Wer den Vater mißhandelt, die Mutter verjagt, ist ein Sohn, der Schimpf und Schande bereitet.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Laß ab, mein Sohn, auf Zurechtweisung zu hören, um dann doch abzuirren von vernünftigen Lehren.
28 A worthless witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
Ein nichtsnutziger Zeuge spottet des Rechts, und der Gottlosen Mund verschlingt gierig das Arge.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Für die Spötter stehen Strafgerichte bereit und Schläge für den Rücken der Thoren.
