< Proverbs 18 >
1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
自己を人と異にする者はおのれの欲するところのみを求めてすべての善き考察にもとる
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
愚なる者は明哲を喜ばず 惟おのれの心意を顯すことを喜ぶ
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
惡者きたれば藐視したがひてきたり 恥きたれば凌辱もともに來る
4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
人の口の言は深水の如し 湧てながるる川 智慧の泉なり
5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
惡者を偏視るは善らず 審判をなして義者を惡しとするも亦善らず
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
愚なる者の口唇はあらそひを起し その口は打るることを招く
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
愚なる者の口はおのれの敗壞となり その口唇はおのれの霊魂の罟となる
8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
人の是非をいふものの言はたはぶれのごとしといへども反つて腹の奧にいる
9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
その行爲をおこたる者は滅すものの兄弟なり
10 The name of YHWH is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
ヱホバの名はかたき櫓のごとし 義者は之に走りいりて救を得
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
富者の資財はその堅き城なり これを高き石垣の如くに思ふ
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
人の心のたかぶりは滅亡に先だち 謙遜はたふとまるる事にさきだつ
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
いまだ事をきかざるさきに應ふる者は愚にして辱をかうぶる
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
人の心は尚其疾を忍ぶべし されど心の傷める時は誰かこれに耐んや
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
哲者の心は知識をえ 智慧ある者の耳は知識を求む
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
人の贈物はその人のために道をひらき かつ貴きものの前にこれを導く
17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
先に訴訟の理由をのぶるものは正義に似たれども その鄰人きたり詰問ひてその事を明かにす
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
籤は爭端をとどめ且つよきものの間にへだてとなる
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
怒れる兄弟はかたき城にもまさりて説き伏せがたし 兄弟のあらそひは櫓の貫木のごとし
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
人は口の徳によりて腹をあかし その口唇の徳によりて自ら飽べし
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
死生は舌の權能にあり これを愛する者はその果を食はん
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of YHWH.
妻を得るものは美物を得るなり 且ヱホバより恩寵をあたへらる
23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
貧者は哀なる言をもて乞ひ 富人は厲しき答をなす
24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
多の友をまうくる人は遂にその身を亡す 但し兄弟よりもたのもしき知己もまたあり
