Judges 15
1 But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
Et quelque temps après, à l'époque de la moisson des orges, Samson visita sa femme, apportant un chevreau, et il dit: Je veux entrer chez ma femme dans la chambre; mais le père ne lui permit pas d'entrer.
2 And her father said, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
Et le père dit: Je pensais que tu la haïssais et je l'ai donnée à ton ami. Sa sœur cadette n'est-elle pas plus belle qu'elle? prends-la donc à sa place!
3 And Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
Alors Samson leur dit: Cette fois si je fais du mal aux Philistins, les Philistins ne pourront en rejeter la faute sur moi.
4 And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.
Et Samson partit, et ayant attrapé trois cents renards, il se procura des torches; et croisant une queue avec l'autre queue, il fixa une torche entre deux queues, au milieu.
5 And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
Puis ayant allumé les torches, il les lâcha dans les moissons des Philistins, et ainsi embrasa et les tas de gerbes et les blés qui étaient sur pied, et les olivaies.
6 Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
Alors les Philistins dirent: Qui a fait cela? Et on dit: C'est Samson, gendre du Thimnite, parce que celui-ci lui a ôté sa femme et l'a donnée à son ami. Alors les Philistins arrivèrent, ils la brûlèrent elle et son père dans les flammes.
7 And Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
Et Samson leur dit: Est-ce ainsi que vous faites?… Oui, quand j'aurai tiré vengeance de vous, alors je cesserai.
8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock Etam.
Et il leur frappa jambes et reins d'un grand coup. Puis il descendit, et prit pour sa demeure la caverne du rocher d'Eitam.
9 Then the Philistines went up, and pitched in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
Alors les Philistins se mirent en campagne et vinrent camper en Juda, et ils se déployèrent dans Léchi.
10 And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they answered, To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.
Et les hommes de Juda dirent: Pourquoi marchez-vous contre nous?
11 Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.
Et ils dirent: C'est pour enchaîner Samson que nous sommes venus, pour lui rendre ce qu'il nous a fait. Là-dessus trois mille hommes de Juda descendirent à la caverne du rocher d'Eitam, et ils dirent à Samson: Ne savais-tu pas que les Philistins sont nos dominateurs? et qu'est-ce que tu nous as fait là? Et il leur dit: Je les ai traités comme ils m'ont traité.
12 And they said unto him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them, Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.
Et ils lui dirent: C'est pour te garrotter que nous venons, pour te livrer aux mains des Philistins. Et Samson leur dit: Jurez-moi que vous ne me tuerez pas!
13 And they spake unto him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand: but surely we will not kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.
Et ils lui dirent: Non; nous ne voulons que te garrotter et te remettre entre leurs mains; quant à te faire mourir, nous ne le ferons point. Et ils le lièrent de deux cordes neuves, et ils l'emmenèrent loin du rocher.
14 And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of YHWH came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
Il arriva à Léchi et les Philistins l'accueillirent par des huées; alors l'esprit de l'Éternel s'empara de lui, et les cordes qu'il avait aux bras ne furent plus que comme des brins de fil qui brûlent dans le feu, et ses liens coulèrent de ses poignets.
15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
Et il trouva une mâchoire d'âne fraîche, et il étendit la main et la saisit, et en frappa mille hommes.
16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
Et Samson dit: Avec une mâchoire d'âne, une, deux troupes! Avec une mâchoire d'âne j'ai défait mille hommes!
17 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lehi.
Et quand il eut achevé son discours, il jeta la mâchoire loin de sa main, et il nomma ce lieu Ramath-Léchi (jet de la mâchoire).
18 And he was sore athirst, and called on YHWH, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
Et il était fort altéré; alors il invoqua l'Éternel et dit: Par la main de ton serviteur tu as procuré cette grande victoire, et maintenant devrais-je mourir de soif et tomber entre les mains des incirconcis!
19 But Elohim clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day.
Alors Dieu entrouvrit une cavité qui était à Léchi, et il en jaillit de l'eau et il but, et ses esprits revinrent, et il fut ranimé. C'est pourquoi on la nomma Source de l'invocateur, et elle existe encore aujourd'hui à Léchi.
20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
Et il jugea Israël à l'époque des Philistins pendant vingt ans.
