Joshua 14
1 And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.
Et voici ce dont les enfants d'Israël prirent possession dans le pays de Canaan, ce que leur partagèrent le Prêtre Eléazar et Josué, fils de Nun, et les Patriarches des Tribus des enfants d'Israël,
2 By lot was their inheritance, as YHWH commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.
en tirant au sort leurs lots selon l'ordre de l'Éternel donné par l'organe de Moïse, aux neuf Tribus et à la demi-Tribu.
3 For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.
Car Moïse avait déjà donné le lot des deux Tribus et de la demi-Tribu au delà du Jourdain; mais aux Lévites il n'avait donné aucun lot parmi eux.
4 For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
Car aussi les fils de Joseph formaient deux Tribus, Manassé et Ephraïm, et on ne donna aux Lévites de portion dans le pays que des villes pour y loger, et leurs banlieues pour recevoir leurs troupeaux et leurs biens.
5 As YHWH commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.
Les enfants d'Israël exécutèrent les ordres donnés par l'Éternel à Moïse, et firent le partage du pays.
6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that YHWH said unto Moses the man of Elohim concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.
Et les fils de Juda s'approchèrent de Josué à Guilgal, et Caleb, fils de Jéphunné, issu de Kénaz, lui dit: Tu as connaissance de la parole adressée par l'Éternel à Moïse, homme de Dieu, pour ce qui me concerne ainsi que toi, à Cadès-Barnéa.
7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of YHWH sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
J'avais quarante ans, lorsque Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel, m'envoya de Cadès-Barnéa explorer le pays, et je lui rendis compte ainsi que mon cœur le sentait.
8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed YHWH my Elohim.
Et mes frères qui avaient fait le voyage avec moi, découragèrent le peuple, mais moi j'obéis pleinement à l'Éternel, mon Dieu.
9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed YHWH my Elohim.
Et en ce jour-là Moïse prononça ce serment: Certainement le pays que ton pied a foulé deviendra le lot de toi et de tes fils à perpétuité, parce que tu as pleinement obéi à l'Éternel, mon Dieu.
10 And now, behold, YHWH hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since YHWH spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
Et maintenant, voici, l'Éternel m'a conservé la vie, comme Il l'a promis, pendant ces quarante-cinq années depuis que l'Éternel adressa cette parole à Moïse, quand Israël parcourait le désert;
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
or maintenant voici, aujourd'hui j'ai quatre-vingt-cinq ans; j'ai encore aujourd'hui la même vigueur qu'au temps où Moïse me confia ma mission; la force que j'avais alors est la force que j'ai aujourd'hui pour faire la guerre, pour aller et venir.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof YHWH spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be YHWH will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as YHWH said.
Maintenant donc donne-moi cette montagne que l'Éternel m'a promise en ce temps-là. Car dans ce temps-là aussi tu as appris que les Anakites sont là et qu'il s'y trouve de grandes villes fortifiées. L'Éternel peut-être sera avec moi, et je les expulserai selon la promesse de l'Éternel.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
Alors Josué le bénit et il donna Hébron à Caleb pour son lot,
14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed YHWH Elohim of Israel.
c'est pourquoi Caleb, fils de Jéphunné, issu de Kénaz, a eu Hébron pour lot jusqu'aujourd'hui, parce qu'il avait pleinement obéi à l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël.
15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
Or Hébron portait autrefois le nom de Kiriath-d'Arba; celui-ci était l'homme le plus grand parmi les Anakites, et le pays se reposa des troubles de la guerre.
