< Isaiah 52 >
1 Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.
Awake, awake, put on your strength, Zion; put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city, for there shall no more enter into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.
2 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
Shake yourself from the dust. Arise, sit up, Jerusalem. Release yourself from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion.
3 For thus saith YHWH, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.
For thus says the LORD, "You were sold for nothing; and you shall be redeemed without money."
4 For thus saith the Master YHWH, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.
For thus says the LORD, "My people went down at the first into Egypt to live there, and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.
5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith YHWH, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith YHWH; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.
"Now therefore, what do I do here," says the LORD, "seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them mock," says the LORD. "Because of you, my name is continually all the day blasphemed among the nations.
6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.
Therefore my people shall know my name; in that day they will know that I am he who speaks; look, it is I."
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy Elohim reigneth!
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of good things, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns."
8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when YHWH shall bring again Zion.
The voice of your watchmen. They lift up the voice, together do they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD returns to Zion with compassion.
9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for YHWH hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
Break forth into joy, sing together, you waste places of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 YHWH hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our Elohim.
The LORD has made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and every part of the earth has seen the salvation of our God.
11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of YHWH.
Depart, depart, go out from there, and touch no unclean thing. Go out from their midst, and be separate, you who bear the vessels of the LORD.
12 For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for YHWH will go before you; and the Elohim of Israel will be your rereward.
For you shall not depart in haste, nor shall you leave in flight; for the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
Look, my servant shall deal wisely, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.
14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Just as many were astonished at you (his appearance was marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),
15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
so shall he sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths at him. For that which was not told about him, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.
