Isaiah 47
1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
Herunter! In den Staub! Du Jungfrau, Babels Tochter! Setz dich zur Erde! Entthronte! Du Chaldäertochter! Man nennt dich nimmermehr "die Feine und die Zarte".
2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
Die Mühle nimm und mahle Mehl! Deck deinen Schleier auf! Die Schleppe hoch! Das Bein entblößt! So wate durch die Flüsse!
3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
Dein Schoß wird aufgedeckt, und angegafft wird deine Blöße. "Ich nehme Rache und bitte niemand um Erlaubnis." -
4 As for our redeemer, YHWH of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
Der uns erlöst, der "Herr der Heerescharen" heißt, der Heilige Israels, spricht also:
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
"Sitz ruhig hin! Ins Dunkel schleiche, du Chaldäertochter! Denn fortan nennt dich niemand mehr 'der Königreiche Herrin'.
6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.
Ich hatte auf mein Volk gezürnt; die ewig Meinen hatte ich entweiht und sie in deine Hand gegeben. Kein Mitleid hattest du für sie; den Alten machtest du dein Joch gar schwer.
7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
Du sprachst: 'Ich bleibe Herrin immerdar' und überlegtest nicht und dachtest nicht an seine Folgen.
8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
Nun höre dies, Verzärtelte, die da im Sichern thront, die bei sich spricht: 'Ich bin's und keine sonst; ich sitze nicht als Witwe da und kenne keine Kinderlosigkeit'.
9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
Und dennoch trifft dich beides plötzlich: an e i n e m Tage Kinderlosigkeit und Witwenschaft. Sie treffen dich in ihrer ganzen Schwere, dies trotz der Menge deiner Zauberkniffe und trotz der Masse der Beschwörungen.
10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
Auf deine Schlechtigkeit vertrautest du und sprachst: 'Nicht einer mich durchschaut.' Doch deine Weisheit, deine Klugheit haben dich berückt. 'Ich bin's ja', dachtest du, 'sonst keine.'
11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
Doch über dich kommt Unheil, und du weißt nicht, wie du es beschwören sollst. Dich überfällt Verderben; du kannst es nimmer bannen. Urplötzlich überkommt dich Schwindel, daß dir vergehn die Sinne.
12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
Bleib nur bei deines Bannes Sprüchen, bei deinen vielen Zauberkniffen! Du mühtest dich mit ihnen schon von Jugend an. Vielleicht kannst du dir helfen; vielleicht verscheuchst du es.
13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
Wenn du das Spiel verlorengibst trotz deiner vielen Pläne, dann mögen diese Himmelskundigen zu deiner Hilfe kommen, die nach den Sternen sehn und an den Neumonden verkünden, was dir begegnen wird!
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
Sie sind nur Stoppeln, die das Feuer frißt. Sie können sich nicht aus der Flamme retten, und das ist keine Kohlenglut zum Wärmen, kein Feuer, um davor zu sitzen.
15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
Das aber sind sie dir, die Zauberer. Mit ihnen hast du es von Jugend auf gehalten. Ein jeder taumelt seinem Untergange zu, und keiner steht dir bei."
