< Exodus 9 >
1 Then YHWH said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith YHWH Elohim of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Adonai, the God of the Hebrews [Immigrants], says: “Let my people go, that they may abad ·serve· me.
2 For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,
For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still,
3 Behold, the hand of YHWH is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.
behold, Adonai’s hand is on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very grievous pestilence.
4 And YHWH shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel.
Adonai will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel [God prevails] and the livestock of Egypt [Abode of slavery]; and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel [God prevails].”’”
5 And YHWH appointed a set time, saying, To morrow YHWH shall do this thing in the land.
Adonai appointed a set time, saying, “Tomorrow Adonai shall do this thing in the land.”
6 And YHWH did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
Adonai did that thing on the next day; and all the livestock of Egypt [Abode of slavery] died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel [God prevails], not one died.
7 And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the livestock of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn’t let the people go.
8 And YHWH said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out] and to Aaron [Light-bringer], “Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses [Drawn out] sprinkle it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh.
9 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.
It shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], and shall be a boil breaking out with boils on man and on animal, throughout all the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery].”
10 And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.
They took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses [Drawn out] sprinkled it up toward the sky; and it became a boil breaking out with boils on man and on animal.
11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
The magicians couldn’t stand before Moses [Drawn out] because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians, and on all the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery].
12 And YHWH hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as YHWH had spoken unto Moses.
Adonai hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he didn’t sh'ma ·hear obey· them, as Adonai had spoken to Moses [Drawn out].
13 And YHWH said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith YHWH Elohim of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Adonai, the God of the Hebrews [Immigrants], says: “Let my people go, that they may abad ·serve· me.
14 For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.
15 For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
For now I would have stretched out my hand, and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth;
16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
but indeed for this cause I have made you stand: to show you my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth;
17 As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go?
as you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won’t let them go.
18 Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt [Abode of slavery] since the day it was founded even until now.
19 Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
Now therefore order that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. Every man and animal that is found in the field, and is not brought home, the hail shall come down on them, and they shall die.”’”
20 He that feared the word of YHWH among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:
Those who feared Adonai’s word among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their livestock flee into the houses.
21 And he that regarded not the word of YHWH left his servants and his cattle in the field.
Whoever didn’t respect Adonai’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field.
22 And YHWH said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery].”
23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and YHWH sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and YHWH rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
Moses [Drawn out] stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Adonai sent thunder, hail, and lightning flashed down to the earth. Adonai rained hail on the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery].
24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery] since it became a nation.
25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.
The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery] all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.
26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.
Only in the land of Goshen [Drawing near], where the children of Israel [God prevails] were, there was no hail.
27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: YHWH is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses [Drawn out] and Aaron [Light-bringer], and said to them, “I have sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)· this time. Adonai is upright, and I and my people are wicked.
28 Intreat YHWH (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.
Pray to Adonai; for there has been enough of mighty thunder and hail. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.”
29 And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto YHWH; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is YHWH 's.
Moses [Drawn out] said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands to Adonai. The thunders shall cease, and there will not be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is Adonai’s.
30 But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear YHWH Elohim.
But as for you and your servants, I know that you don’t yet fear Adonai God.”
31 And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.
The flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom.
32 But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up.
But the wheat and the spelt was not struck, for they had not grown up.
33 And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto YHWH: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
Moses [Drawn out] went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands to Adonai; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth.
34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)· yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as YHWH had spoken by Moses.
The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn’t let the children of Israel [God prevails] go, just as Adonai had spoken through Moses [Drawn out].
