< 2 Timothy 2 >
1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the Favour that is in Yahushua the Messiah.
You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
The things you heard from me among many witnesses, entrust them to faithful people who will be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Yahushua the Messiah.
Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
No soldier serves while entangled in the affairs of this life, so that he may please his superior officer.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
Also, if someone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes by the rules.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
It is necessary that the hardworking farmer receive his share of the crops first.
7 Consider what I say; and YHWH give thee understanding in all things.
Think about what I am saying, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
8 Remember that Yahushua the Messiah of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my evangel:
Remember Jesus Christ, from David's seed, who was raised from the dead. This is according to my gospel message,
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of YHWH is not bound.
for which I am suffering to the point of being bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Yahushua the Messiah with eternal glory. (aiōnios )
Therefore I endure all things for those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. (aiōnios )
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
This is a trustworthy saying: “If we have died with him, we will also live with him.
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
if we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.”
14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before YHWH that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto YHWH, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no reason to be ashamed, who accurately teaches the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more wickedness.
Avoid profane talk, which leads to more and more godlessness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
Their talk will spread like cancer. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
who have gone astray from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already happened, and they destroy the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless the foundation of YHWH standeth sure, having this seal, YHWH knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of the Messiah depart from iniquity.
However, the firm foundation of God stands. It has this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his” and “Everyone who names the name of the Lord must depart from unrighteousness.”
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
In a wealthy home, there are not only containers of gold and silver. There are also containers of wood and clay. Some of these are for honorable use, and some for dishonorable.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
If someone cleans himself from dishonorable use, he is an honorable container. He is set apart, useful to the Master, and prepared for every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on YHWH out of a pure heart.
Flee youthful lusts. Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a clean heart.
23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
But refuse foolish and ignorant questions. You know that they give birth to arguments.
24 And the servant of YHWH must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
The Lord's servant must not quarrel. Instead he must be gentle toward all, able to teach, and patient.
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if YHWH peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
He must in meekness educate those who oppose him. God may perhaps give them repentance for the knowledge of the truth.
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
They may become sober again and leave the devil's trap, after they have been captured by him for his will.
