< 1 Peter 2 >
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
Wherefore, laying aside all malice, and all guile and hypocrisies, and envyings, and all evil speaking;
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
as newborn babes, earnestly desire the unadulterated milk of the word, that you may grow by it.
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Master is good.
Because, indeed, you have tasted that the Lord is good;
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of YHWH, and precious,
to whom coming, as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, and precious;
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to YHWH by Yahushua the Messiah.
you, also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual temple, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices, most acceptable to God, through Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
Wherefore, it is contained in the scripture, "Behold I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: whoever trusts in it, shall not be ashamed."
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
To you, then, who trust, it is precious; but to unbelieving-- a stone which the builders rejected, which has become the head of the corner--
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense. Those who stumble at the word, are disobedient unbelievers, to which, therefore, they were appointed:
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
but you are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people; that you should declare the perfections of him who has called you from darkness into his marvelous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of YHWH: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
who formerly were not a people, but now are a people of God; who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Beloved, I beseech you, as sojourners and travelers, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify YHWH in the day of visitation.
Have your behavior comely, among the Gentiles, that, whereas, they speak against you, as evil doers, having beheld your good works, they may glorify God, in the day of visitation.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for YHWH 's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
Be subject, therefore, to every human establishment for the Lord's sake; whether to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
or to governor, as those sent by him for the punishment, indeed, of evil doers; but for the praise of them who do good.
15 For so is the will of YHWH, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
For so is the will of God, that, by doing good, you put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of YHWH.
Live as freemen, yet do not use your freedom as a covering of wickedness; but as the servants of God.
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear YHWH. Honour the king.
Treat all men with respect: love the brotherhood: fear God: honor the king.
18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
Let household servants be subject to their masters, with all reverence; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward YHWH endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
For this is acceptable, if any one, from conscience of God, sustain sorrows, suffering unjustly.
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with YHWH.
But what praise is due, if, when you commit faults and are buffeted, you bear it patiently? Yet if, when you do well, and suffer, you bear it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Messiah also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
Besides, to this you were called; for even Christ suffered for us, leaving us a pattern, that you should follow his footsteps;
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
who did not sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
who, when he was reviled, did not revile in return; when he suffered he did not threaten, but committed his cause to him who judges righteously--
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
who himself bore away our sins in his own body, on the tree; that we, being freed from sins, should live to righteousness; by whose stripes you are healed.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
For you were as sheep going astray, but are now returned to the Shepherd, and Overseer of your souls.
