Proverbs 26
1 AS snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
Como neve no verão, e como chuva na colheita, portanto, a honra não é apropriada para um tolo.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
Como um pardal agitado, como uma andorinha de dardos, para que a maldição imerecida não venha a descansar.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.
A chicote é para o cavalo, uma cabeçada para o burro, e uma vara para as costas dos tolos!
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
Não responda a um tolo de acordo com sua insensatez, para que você não seja também como ele.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
Responder a um tolo de acordo com sua tolice, para que ele não seja sábio a seus próprios olhos.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
Aquele que envia uma mensagem pela mão de um tolo está cortando os pés e bebendo violência.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Como as pernas do coxo que ficam soltas, assim é uma parábola na boca dos tolos.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
Como alguém que amarra uma pedra em uma funda, assim é aquele que dá honra a um tolo.
9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Como um arbusto de espinhos que vai para a mão de um bêbado, assim é uma parábola na boca dos tolos.
10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
As um arqueiro que fere a todos, assim é aquele que contrata um idiota ou aquele que contrata aqueles que passam por ali.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
As um cão que retorna ao seu vômito, Assim é um tolo que repete sua loucura.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Do você vê um homem sábio em seus próprios olhos? Há mais esperança para um tolo do que para ele.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
O preguiçoso diz: “Há um leão na estrada! Um leão feroz percorre as ruas”!
14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
As a porta gira em suas dobradiças, assim como o preguiçoso em sua cama.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
O preguiçoso enterra sua mão no prato. Ele é preguiçoso demais para trazê-lo de volta à boca.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
O preguiçoso é mais sábio a seus próprios olhos do que sete homens que respondem com discrição.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
Como quem agarra as orelhas de um cão é aquele que passa e se intromete em uma briga, não a sua.
18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
Like um louco que atira tochas, flechas e morte,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
é o homem que engana seu vizinho e diz: “Não estou brincando?
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
Por falta de lenha, uma fogueira se apaga. Sem mexericos, uma briga morre.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
Como os carvões são para brasas quentes, e madeira para queimar, assim é um homem contencioso para a contenda.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
As palavras de um sussurrante são como pedacinhos delicados, eles descem para as partes mais íntimas.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
Como escória de prata em um vaso de barro são os lábios de um fervoroso com um coração maligno.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
Um homem malicioso disfarça-se com seus lábios, mas ele abriga o mal em seu coração.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
Quando seu discurso for encantador, não acredite nele, pois há sete abominações em seu coração.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
Sua malícia pode ser ocultada por engano, mas sua perversidade será exposta na assembléia.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
Whoever cava um buraco. Quem rolar uma pedra, ela voltará sobre ele.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
Uma língua mentirosa odeia aqueles a quem dói; e uma boca lisonjeadora funciona em ruínas.
