Proverbs 26
1 AS snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
૧જેમ ઉનાળાંમાં હિમ અને કાપણી કરતી વખતે વરસાદ કમોસમનો ગણાય તેમ મૂર્ખને સન્માન શોભતું નથી.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
૨ભટકતી ચકલી અને ઊડતા અબાબીલ પક્ષીની માફક, વિનાકારણે આપેલો શાપ કોઈને માથે લાગતો નથી.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.
૩ઘોડાને માટે ચાબૂક અને ગધેડાને માટે લગામ હોય છે, તેમ મૂર્ખોની પીઠને માટે સોટી છે.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
૪મૂર્ખને તેની મૂર્ખાઈ પ્રમાણે જવાબ ન આપ, રખેને તું પણ તેના જેવો ગણાય.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
૫મૂર્ખને તેની મૂર્ખતા પ્રમાણે જ ઉત્તર આપ, નહિ તો તે પોતાની જ નજરમાં પોતાને ડાહ્યો સમજશે.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
૬જે કોઈ મૂર્ખ માણસની મારફતે સંદેશો મોકલે છે તે પોતાના પગ કાપી નાખે છે અને તે નુકસાન વહોરે છે.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
૭મૂર્ખના મુખેથી અપાતી શિખામણ પક્ષઘાતથી પીડાતા પગ જેવી છે.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
૮જે વ્યક્તિ મૂર્ખને માન આપે છે, તે પથ્થરના ઢગલામાં રત્નોની કોથળી મૂકનાર જેવો છે.
9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
૯જેમ પીધેલાના હાથમાં કાંટાની ડાળી હોય છે તેવી જ રીતે મૂર્ખોના મુખનું દૃષ્ટાંત તેમને જ નડે છે.
10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
૧૦ઉત્તમ કારીગર બધું કામ પોતે જ કરે છે પણ મૂર્ખની પાસે કામ કરાવનાર વટેમાર્ગુને રોજે રાખનાર જેવો છે.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
૧૧જેમ કૂતરો ઓકેલું ખાવાને માટે પાછો આવે છે, તેમ મૂર્ખ પોતે કરેલી ભૂલ વારંવાર કરે છે.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
૧૨પોતે પોતાને જ્ઞાની સમજનાર માણસને શું તું જુએ છે? તેના કરતાં તો મૂર્ખને માટે વધારે આશા છે.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
૧૩આળસુ માણસ કહે છે, “રસ્તામાં સિંહ છે! ત્યાં ખુલ્લી જગ્યાઓની વચ્ચે સિંહ છે.”
14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
૧૪જેમ બારણું તેનાં મિજાગરાં પર ફરે છે, તેમ આળસુ પોતાના બિછાના પર આળોટે છે.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
૧૫આળસુ પોતાનો હાથ થાળીમાં નાખે છે ખરો પણ તેને પાછો પોતાના મોં સુધી લાવતાં તેને થાક લાગે છે.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
૧૬હોશિયારીથી ઉત્તર આપી શકે તેવા સાત માણસો કરતાં આળસુ પોતાની નજરે પોતાને વધારે ડાહ્યો ગણે છે.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
૧૭જે રસ્તે ચાલતાં પારકાના કજિયાની ખટપટમાં પડે છે તે કૂતરાના કાન પકડનારના જેવો છે.
18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
૧૮જેઓ બળતાં તીર ફેંકનાર પાગલ માણસ જેવો છે,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
૧૯તેવી જ વ્યક્તિ પોતાના પડોશીને છેતરીને, કહે છે “શું હું ગમ્મત નહોતો કરતો?”
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
૨૦બળતણ ન હોવાથી અગ્નિ હોલવાઈ જાય છે. અને તેમ જ ચાડી કરનાર ન હોય, તો ત્યાં કજિયા સમી જાય છે.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
૨૧જેમ અંગારા કોલસાને અને અગ્નિ લાકડાંને સળગાવે છે, તેમ ઝઘડાખોર માણસ કજિયા ઊભા કરે છે.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
૨૨નિંદા કરનાર વ્યક્તિના શબ્દો સ્વાદિષ્ટ કોળિયા જેવા લાગે છે; તે શરીરના અંતરના ભાગમા ઊતરી જાય છે.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
૨૩કુટિલ હૃદય અને મીઠી વાણી એ અશુદ્ધ ચાંદીની મલિનતાથી મઢેલા માટીના વાસણ જેવાં છે.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
૨૪ધિક્કારવા લાયક માણસ મનમાં દગો રાખે છે અને પોતાના અંતરમાં તે કપટ ભરી રાખે છે.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
૨૫તે મીઠી મીઠી વાતો કરે, પણ તેના પર વિશ્વાસ ન કર, કારણ કે તેના હૃદયમાં સાતગણાં ષળયંત્રોના ઇરાદા ભરેલા હોય છે.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
૨૬જો કે તેનો દ્વ્રેષ કપટથી ઢંકાયેલો હોય છે, તોપણ તેની દુષ્ટતા સભા આગળ ઉઘાડી પડી જશે.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
૨૭જે બીજાને માટે ખાડો ખોદે તે પોતે તેમાં પડશે અને જે કોઈ બીજાની તરફ પથ્થર ગબડાવે તે તેના પર જ પાછો આવશે.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
૨૮જૂઠી જીભે પોતે જેઓને ઘાયલ કર્યા છે, તેઓનો તે દ્વેષ કરે છે; અને ખુશામત કરનાર વ્યક્તિ પાયમાલી લાવે છે.
