Proverbs 14
1 EVERY wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
૧દરેક સમજુ સ્ત્રી પોતાના ઘરની આબાદી વધારે છે, પણ મૂર્ખ સ્ત્રી પોતાને જ હાથે તેનો નાશ કરે છે.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
૨જે વિશ્વનીયતામાં ચાલે છે તે યહોવાહનો ડર રાખે છે, પણ જે પોતાના માર્ગોમાં અવળો ચાલે છે તે તેને ધિક્કારે છે.
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
૩મૂર્ખના મુખમાં અભિમાનની સોટી છે, પણ જ્ઞાનીઓના હોઠ તેઓનું રક્ષણ કરે છે.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
૪જ્યાં બળદ ન હોય ત્યાં ગભાણ સાફ જ રહે છે, પણ બળદના બળથી ઘણી ઊપજ થાય છે.
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
૫વિશ્વાસુ સાક્ષી જૂઠું બોલશે નહિ, પણ જૂઠો સાક્ષી જૂઠું જ બોલે છે.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
૬હાંસી ઉડાવનાર ડહાપણ શોધે છે પણ તેને જડતું નથી, પણ ડાહી વ્યક્તિ પાસે ડહાપણ સહેલાઈથી આવે છે.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
૭મૂર્ખ માણસથી દૂર રહેવું, તેની પાસે તને જ્ઞાનવાળા શબ્દો સાંભળવા નહિ મળે,
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
૮પોતાનો માર્ગ સમજવામાં ડાહ્યા માણસનું ડહાપણ છે, પણ મૂર્ખની મૂર્ખાઈ તેનું કપટ છે.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
૯મૂર્ખ પ્રાયશ્ચિત્તને હસવામાં ઉડાવે છે, પણ પ્રામાણિક માણસો ઈશ્વરની કૃપા મેળવે છે.
10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
૧૦અંતઃકરણ પોતે પોતાની વેદના જાણે છે, અને પારકા તેના આનંદમાં જોડાઈ શકતો નથી.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
૧૧દુષ્ટનું ઘર પાયમાલ થશે, પણ પ્રામાણિકનો તંબુ સમૃદ્ધ રહેશે.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
૧૨એક એવો માર્ગ છે જે માણસને ઠીક લાગે છે, પણ અંતે તેનું પરિણામ તો મરણનો માર્ગ નીવડે છે.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
૧૩હસતી વેળાએ પણ હૃદય ખિન્ન હોય છે, અને હર્ષનો અંત શોક છે.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
૧૪પાપી હૃદયવાળાએ પોતાના જ માર્ગનું ફળ ભોગવવું પડશે અને સારો માણસ પોતાનાં જ કર્મોનું ફળ માણે છે.
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
૧૫ભોળો માણસ બધું માની લે છે, પણ ચતુર માણસ પોતાની વર્તણૂક બરાબર તપાસે છે.
16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
૧૬જ્ઞાની માણસ દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર રહે છે, પણ મૂર્ખ માણસ ઉન્મત્ત થઈને બેદરકાર બને છે.
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
૧૭જલદી ક્રોધ કરનાર મૂર્ખાઈ કરી બેસે છે, અને દુષ્ટ યોજનાઓ ઘડનાર ધિક્કાર પામે છે.
18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
૧૮ભોળા લોકો મૂર્ખાઈનો વારસો પામે છે, પણ ડાહ્યા માણસોને વિદ્યાનો મુગટ પહેરાવવામાં આવે છે.
19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
૧૯દુષ્ટોને સજ્જનો આગળ ઝૂકવું પડે છે, અને જેઓ દુષ્ટ છે તેઓને સદાચારીઓને બારણે નમવું પડે છે.
20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
૨૦ગરીબને પોતાના પડોશીઓ પણ ધિક્કારે છે, પરંતુ ધનવાનને ઘણા મિત્રો હોય છે.
21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
૨૧પોતાના પડોશીને તુચ્છ ગણનાર પાપ કરે છે, પણ ગરીબ પર દયા કરનાર આશીર્વાદિત છે.
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
૨૨ભૂંડી યોજનાઓ ઘડનાર શું ભૂલ નથી કરતા? પણ સારી યોજનાઓ ઘડનારને કૃપા અને સત્ય પ્રાપ્ત થશે.
23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
૨૩જ્યાં મહેનત છે ત્યાં લાભ પણ હોય છે, પણ જ્યાં ખાલી વાતો જ થાય ત્યાં માત્ર ગરીબી જ આવે છે.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
૨૪જ્ઞાનીઓનો મુગટ તેઓની સંપત્તિ છે, પણ મૂર્ખોની મૂર્ખાઈ તે જ તેમનો બદલો છે.
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
૨૫સાચો સાક્ષી જીવનોને બચાવે છે, પણ કપટી માણસ જૂઠાણું ઉચ્ચારે છે.
26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
૨૬યહોવાહનાં ભયમાં દૃઢ વિશ્વાસ સમાયેલો છે, તેનાં સંતાનોને તે આશ્રય આપે છે.
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
૨૭મોતના ફાંદામાંથી છૂટી જવાને માટે, યહોવાહનો ભય જીવનનો ઝરો છે.
28 In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
૨૮ઘણી પ્રજા તે રાજાનું ગૌરવ છે, પણ પ્રજા વિના શાસક નાશ પામે છે.
29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
૨૯જે ક્રોધ કરવામાં ધીમો છે તે વધારે સમજુ છે, પણ ઉતાવળિયા સ્વભાવનો માણસ મૂર્ખાઈને પ્રદર્શિત કરે છે.
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
૩૦હૃદયની શાંતિ શરીરનું જીવન છે; પણ ઈર્ષ્યા હાડકાનો સડો છે.
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
૩૧ગરીબ પર જુલમ કરનાર તેના સર્જનહારનું અપમાન કરે છે, પણ ગરીબ પર કૃપા રાખનાર તેને માન આપે છે.
32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
૩૨દુષ્ટને પોતાની દુષ્ટતાથી હડસેલી નાખવામાં આવશે, પરંતુ ન્યાયી માણસને પોતાના મૃત્યુમાં પણ આશા હોય છે.
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
૩૩બુદ્ધિમાનના હૃદયમાં ડહાપણ વસે છે, પણ મૂર્ખના અંતરમાં ડહાપણ નથી હોતું તે જણાઈ આવે છે.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
૩૪ન્યાયીપણાથી પ્રજા મહાન બને છે, પણ પાપ તો પ્રજાનું કલંક છે.
35 The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
૩૫બુદ્ધિમાન સેવક પર રાજાની કૃપા હોય છે, પણ બદનામી કરાવનાર પર તેમનો ક્રોધ ઊતરે છે.
