Exodus 33
1 AND the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:
上主向梅瑟說：「你和你從埃及國領出的百姓離開這裏，上那地方去；關於此地，我曾誓許給亞巴郎、依撒格和雅各伯說：我要將此地獻給你的後裔。
2 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
我要打發使者在你面前，我要趨逐客納罕人、阿摩黎人、赫特人、培黎齊人、希威人和耶步斯人。
3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.
你往流奶流蜜之地時，我不與你同行，因為你是個執拗的百姓，免得我在路上消滅你。」
4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.
百姓一聽這兇信，都表示悲痛，沒有人再穿戴裝飾品。
5 For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
少主向梅瑟說：「你告訴以色列子民：你們是個執拗的百姓，我若與你同行，只一會兒，我必把你消滅。現在你把裝飾品卸下，看我要怎樣待你。」
6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.
以色列子民從離開曷勒布山，就卸去了裝飾品。會幕
7 And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the Lord went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.
梅瑟往往將那帳幕支搭在營外，離營遠些；他稱此帳幕為「會幕。」凡求問天主的，要到營外的帳幕那裏。
8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.
每當梅瑟往會幕那裏去的時候，眾百姓都起來，每人站在自己帳幕門口，觀望梅瑟直到他進入會幕。
9 And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.
當梅瑟進入會幕的時候，雲柱降下，停在會幕門口，上主便向梅瑟談話。
10 And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
眾百姓一見雲柱停止在會幕門口，百姓就起來，俯伏在自己的帳幕門口。
11 And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
上主同梅瑟面對面地談話，就如人同朋友談話一樣。梅瑟回營以後，他的侍從，一個年輕人，即農的兒子若蘇厄總不離開會幕。梅瑟求見天主的榮耀
12 And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
梅瑟對上主說：「看，你吩咐了我，叫我引領這百姓，但沒有告訴我，你派誰與我同去。你還說過：提名選了你，你在我眼中得了寵。
13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
如果我真在你眼中得寵，求你把你的道路指示給我，叫我認識你，好在你眼中得寵。也請記得這民族是你的百姓。」
14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
上主回答說：「我必親自去，使你獲得安所。」
15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
梅瑟上主說：「你若不親自去，也別叫我們從這裏上去。
16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
人怎樣知道我和你的百姓在你眼中得寵，豈不是因你與我們同行，而我和你的百姓有別於地面上所以的人民﹖」
17 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
上主回答說：「連你所求的事，我也要作，因為你在我眼中得了寵，我提名選了你。」
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
梅瑟又說：「求你把你的榮耀顯示給我。」
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
上主答說：「當我在你前呼喊「雅威」名號時，我要使我的一切美善在你面前經過。我要恩待的就恩待，要憐憫的就憐憫。」
20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
又說：「我的面容你決不能看見，因為人見了我，就不能再活了。」
21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
上主又說：「看，靠近我有個地方，你可站在那塊磐石上。
22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
當我的榮耀經過時，我把你放在磐石縫裏，用我的手遮掩你，直到我過去。
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
當我縮回我的手時，你將看見我的背後，但我的面容，卻無法看見。」
