Zephaniah 2
1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O nation not desired;
Rassemblez-vous, oui, rassemblez-vous, nation sans honte,
2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come on you, before the day of the LORD’s anger come on you.
avant le temps fixé, quand le jour passe comme l'ivraie, avant que la colère ardente de l'Éternel ne vienne sur vous, avant que le jour de la colère de l'Éternel ne vienne sur vous.
3 Seek you the LORD, all you meek of the earth, which have worked his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be you shall be hid in the day of the LORD’s anger.
Cherchez Yahvé, vous tous, humbles du pays, qui avez gardé ses ordonnances. Recherchez la justice. Cherchez l'humilité. Il se peut que vous soyez cachés au jour de la colère de l'Éternel.
4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
Car Gaza sera abandonnée, et Ashkelon sera dévastée. On chassera Ashdod en plein midi, et Ekron sera déraciné.
5 Woe to the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy you, that there shall be no inhabitant.
Malheur aux habitants du bord de la mer, à la nation des Kéréthiens! La parole de Yahvé est contre toi, Canaan, pays des Philistins. Je te détruirai jusqu'à ce qu'il n'y ait plus d'habitants.
6 And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
La côte de la mer sera un pâturage, avec des cabanes pour les bergers et des bergeries pour les troupeaux.
7 And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
La côte sera pour le reste de la maison de Juda. Ils y trouveront des pâturages. Dans les maisons d'Askalon, ils se coucheront le soir, car Yahvé, leur Dieu, les visitera et les rétablira.
8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.
J'ai entendu l'opprobre de Moab et les insultes des enfants d'Ammon, par lesquelles ils ont outragé mon peuple et se sont élevés contre sa frontière.
9 Therefore as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
C'est pourquoi, je suis vivant, dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, Moab sera comme Sodome, et les enfants d'Ammon comme Gomorrhe, une possession d'orties et de salines, une désolation perpétuelle. Le reste de mon peuple les pillera, et les survivants de ma nation en hériteront.
10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.
C'est ce qu'ils auront pour leur orgueil, parce qu'ils ont fait des reproches et se sont élevés contre le peuple de l'Éternel des armées.
11 The LORD will be terrible to them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.
Yahvé leur sera redoutable, car il anéantira tous les dieux du pays. Les hommes se prosterneront devant lui, chacun à sa place, jusqu'aux rivages des nations.
12 You Ethiopians also, you shall be slain by my sword.
Vous aussi, Cushites, vous serez tués par mon épée.
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.
Il étendra sa main contre le nord, il détruira l'Assyrie, et il fera de Ninive une désolation, aussi sèche que le désert.
14 And flocks shall lie down in the middle of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds; for he shall uncover the cedar work.
Des troupeaux se coucheront au milieu d'elle, toutes sortes d'animaux. Le pélican et le porc-épic se logeront dans ses chapiteaux. Leurs cris résonneront à travers les fenêtres. La désolation sera sur les seuils, car il a mis à nu les poutres de cèdre.
15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelled carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passes by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
C'est la ville joyeuse qui vivait dans l'insouciance, qui disait en son cœur: « Je suis, et il n'y a personne en dehors de moi. » Comme elle est devenue une désolation, un lieu où les bêtes se couchent! Tous ceux qui passent près d'elle sifflent et serrent le poing.
