John 4
1 When therefore the LORD knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
イエスが、ヨハネよりも多く弟子をつくり、またバプテスマを授けておられるということを、パリサイ人たちが聞き、それを主が知られたとき、
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples, )
（しかし、イエスみずからが、バプテスマをお授けになったのではなく、その弟子たちであった）
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
ユダヤを去って、またガリラヤへ行かれた。
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
しかし、イエスはサマリヤを通過しなければならなかった。
5 Then comes he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
そこで、イエスはサマリヤのスカルという町においでになった。この町は、ヤコブがその子ヨセフに与えた土地の近くにあったが、
6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
そこにヤコブの井戸があった。イエスは旅の疲れを覚えて、そのまま、この井戸のそばにすわっておられた。時は昼の十二時ごろであった。
7 There comes a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus says to her, Give me to drink.
ひとりのサマリヤの女が水をくみにきたので、イエスはこの女に、「水を飲ませて下さい」と言われた。
8 (For his disciples were gone away to the city to buy meat.)
弟子たちは食物を買いに町に行っていたのである。
9 Then says the woman of Samaria to him, How is it that you, being a Jew, ask drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
すると、サマリヤの女はイエスに言った、「あなたはユダヤ人でありながら、どうしてサマリヤの女のわたしに、飲ませてくれとおっしゃるのですか」。これは、ユダヤ人はサマリヤ人と交際していなかったからである。
10 Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, Give me to drink; you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water.
イエスは答えて言われた、「もしあなたが神の賜物のことを知り、また、『水を飲ませてくれ』と言った者が、だれであるか知っていたならば、あなたの方から願い出て、その人から生ける水をもらったことであろう」。
11 The woman says to him, Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from where then have you that living water?
女はイエスに言った、「主よ、あなたは、くむ物をお持ちにならず、その上、井戸は深いのです。その生ける水を、どこから手に入れるのですか。
12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
あなたは、この井戸を下さったわたしたちの父ヤコブよりも、偉いかたなのですか。ヤコブ自身も飲み、その子らも、その家畜も、この井戸から飲んだのですが」。
13 Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinks of this water shall thirst again:
イエスは女に答えて言われた、「この水を飲む者はだれでも、またかわくであろう。
15 The woman says to him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come here to draw.
女はイエスに言った、「主よ、わたしがかわくことがなく、また、ここにくみにこなくてもよいように、その水をわたしに下さい」。
16 Jesus says to her, Go, call your husband, and come here.
イエスは女に言われた、「あなたの夫を呼びに行って、ここに連れてきなさい」。
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have well said, I have no husband:
女は答えて言った、「わたしには夫はありません」。イエスは女に言われた、「夫がないと言ったのは、もっともだ。
18 For you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband: in that said you truly.
あなたには五人の夫があったが、今のはあなたの夫ではない。あなたの言葉のとおりである」。
19 The woman says to him, Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
女はイエスに言った、「主よ、わたしはあなたを預言者と見ます。
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and you say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
わたしたちの先祖は、この山で礼拝をしたのですが、あなたがたは礼拝すべき場所は、エルサレムにあると言っています」。
21 Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when you shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
イエスは女に言われた、「女よ、わたしの言うことを信じなさい。あなたがたが、この山でも、またエルサレムでもない所で、父を礼拝する時が来る。
22 You worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
あなたがたは自分の知らないものを拝んでいるが、わたしたちは知っているかたを礼拝している。救はユダヤ人から来るからである。
23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.
しかし、まことの礼拝をする者たちが、霊とまこととをもって父を礼拝する時が来る。そうだ、今きている。父は、このような礼拝をする者たちを求めておられるからである。
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
神は霊であるから、礼拝をする者も、霊とまこととをもって礼拝すべきである」。
25 The woman says to him, I know that Messias comes, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
女はイエスに言った、「わたしは、キリストと呼ばれるメシヤがこられることを知っています。そのかたがこられたならば、わたしたちに、いっさいのことを知らせて下さるでしょう」。
26 Jesus says to her, I that speak to you am he.
イエスは女に言われた、「あなたと話をしているこのわたしが、それである」。
27 And on this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seek you? or, Why talk you with her?
そのとき、弟子たちが帰って来て、イエスがひとりの女と話しておられるのを見て不思議に思ったが、しかし、「何を求めておられますか」とも、「何を彼女と話しておられるのですか」とも、尋ねる者はひとりもなかった。
28 The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and says to the men,
この女は水がめをそのままそこに置いて町に行き、人々に言った、
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
「わたしのしたことを何もかも、言いあてた人がいます。さあ、見にきてごらんなさい。もしかしたら、この人がキリストかも知れません」。
30 Then they went out of the city, and came to him.
人々は町を出て、ぞくぞくとイエスのところへ行った。
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
その間に弟子たちはイエスに、「先生、召しあがってください」とすすめた。
32 But he said to them, I have meat to eat that you know not of.
ところが、イエスは言われた、「わたしには、あなたがたの知らない食物がある」。
33 Therefore says the disciples one to another, Has any man brought him something to eat?
そこで、弟子たちが互に言った、「だれかが、何か食べるものを持ってきてさしあげたのであろうか」。
34 Jesus said to them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしの食物というのは、わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころを行い、そのみわざをなし遂げることである。
35 Say not you, There are yet four months, and then comes harvest? behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
あなたがたは、刈入れ時が来るまでには、まだ四か月あると、言っているではないか。しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。目をあげて畑を見なさい。はや色づいて刈入れを待っている。
36 And he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit to life eternal: that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
刈る者は報酬を受けて、永遠の命に至る実を集めている。まく者も刈る者も、共々に喜ぶためである。 (aiōnios g166)
37 And herein is that saying true, One sows, and another reaps.
そこで、『ひとりがまき、ひとりが刈る』ということわざが、ほんとうのこととなる。
38 I sent you to reap that where on you bestowed no labor: other men labored, and you are entered into their labors.
わたしは、あなたがたをつかわして、あなたがたがそのために労苦しなかったものを刈りとらせた。ほかの人々が労苦し、あなたがたは、彼らの労苦の実にあずかっているのである」。
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
さて、この町からきた多くのサマリヤ人は、「この人は、わたしのしたことを何もかも言いあてた」とあかしした女の言葉によって、イエスを信じた。
40 So when the Samaritans were come to him, they sought him that he would tarry with them: and he stayed there two days.
そこで、サマリヤ人たちはイエスのもとにきて、自分たちのところに滞在していただきたいと願ったので、イエスはそこにふつか滞在された。
41 And many more believed because of his own word;
そしてなお多くの人々が、イエスの言葉を聞いて信じた。
42 And said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of your saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.
彼らは女に言った、「わたしたちが信じるのは、もうあなたが話してくれたからではない。自分自身で親しく聞いて、この人こそまことに世の救主であることが、わかったからである」。
43 Now after two days he departed there, and went into Galilee.
ふつかの後に、イエスはここを去ってガリラヤへ行かれた。
44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
イエスはみずからはっきり、「預言者は自分の故郷では敬われないものだ」と言われたのである。
45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went to the feast.
ガリラヤに着かれると、ガリラヤの人たちはイエスを歓迎した。それは、彼らも祭に行っていたので、その祭の時、イエスがエルサレムでなされたことをことごとく見ていたからである。
46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
イエスは、またガリラヤのカナに行かれた。そこは、かつて水をぶどう酒にかえられた所である。ところが、病気をしているむすこを持つある役人がカペナウムにいた。
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went to him, and sought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
この人が、ユダヤからガリラヤにイエスのきておられることを聞き、みもとにきて、カペナウムに下って、彼の子をなおしていただきたいと、願った。その子が死にかかっていたからである。
48 Then said Jesus to him, Except you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.
そこで、イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたがたは、しるしと奇跡とを見ない限り、決して信じないだろう」。
49 The nobleman says to him, Sir, come down before my child dies.
この役人はイエスに言った、「主よ、どうぞ、子供が死なないうちにきて下さい」。
50 Jesus says to him, Go your way; your son lives. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him, and he went his way.
イエスは彼に言われた、「お帰りなさい。あなたのむすこは助かるのだ」。彼は自分に言われたイエスの言葉を信じて帰って行った。
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Your son lives.
その下って行く途中、僕たちが彼に出会い、その子が助かったことを告げた。
52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
そこで、彼は僕たちに、そのなおりはじめた時刻を尋ねてみたら、「きのうの午後一時に熱が引きました」と答えた。
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said to him, Your son lives: and himself believed, and his whole house.
それは、イエスが「あなたのむすこは助かるのだ」と言われたのと同じ時刻であったことを、この父は知って、彼自身もその家族一同も信じた。
54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
これは、イエスがユダヤからガリラヤにきてなされた第二のしるしである。
