Job 34
1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
エリフはまた答えて言った、
2 Hear my words, O you wise men; and give ear to me, you that have knowledge.
「あなたがた知恵ある人々よ、わたしの言葉を聞け、あなたがた知識ある人々よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。
3 For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes meat.
口が食物を味わうように、耳は言葉をわきまえるからだ。
4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
われわれは正しい事を選び、われわれの間に良い事の何であるかを明らかにしよう。
5 For Job has said, I am righteous: and God has taken away my judgment.
ヨブは言った、『わたしは正しい、神はわたしの公義を奪われた。
6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
わたしは正しいにもかかわらず、偽る者とされた。わたしにはとががないけれども、わたしの矢傷はいえない』と。
7 What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water?
だれかヨブのような人があろう。彼はあざけりを水のように飲み、
8 Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men.
悪をなす者どもと交わり、悪人と共に歩む。
9 For he has said, It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
彼は言った、『人は神と親しんでも、なんの益もない』と。
10 Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
それであなたがた理解ある人々よ、わたしに聞け、神は断じて悪を行うことなく、全能者は断じて不義を行うことはない。
11 For the work of a man shall he render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
神は人のわざにしたがってその身に報い、おのおのの道にしたがって、その身に振りかからせられる。
12 Yes, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
まことに神は悪しき事を行われない。全能者はさばきをまげられない。
13 Who has given him a charge over the earth? or who has disposed the whole world?
だれかこの地を彼にゆだねた者があるか。だれか全世界を彼に負わせた者があるか。
14 If he set his heart on man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath;
神がもしその霊をご自分に取りもどし、その息をご自分に取りあつめられるならば、
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust.
すべての肉は共に滅び、人はちりに帰るであろう。
16 If now you have understanding, hear this: listen to the voice of my words.
もし、あなたに悟りがあるならば、これを聞け、わたしの言うところに耳を傾けよ。
17 Shall even he that hates right govern? and will you condemn him that is most just?
公義を憎む者は世を治めることができようか。正しく力ある者を、あなたは非難するであろうか。
18 Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? and to princes, You are ungodly?
王たる者に向かって『よこしまな者』と言い、つかさたる者に向かって、『悪しき者』と言うことができるであろうか。
19 How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
神は君たる者をもかたより見られることなく、富める者を貧しき者にまさって顧みられることはない。彼らは皆み手のわざだからである。
20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
彼らはまたたく間に死に、民は夜の間に振われて、消えうせ、力ある者も人手によらずに除かれる。
21 For his eyes are on the ways of man, and he sees all his goings.
神の目が人の道の上にあって、そのすべての歩みを見られるからだ。
22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
悪を行う者には身を隠すべき暗やみもなく、暗黒もない。
23 For he will not lay on man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
人がさばきのために神の前に出るとき、神は人のために時を定めておかれない。
24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
彼は力ある者をも調べることなく打ち滅ぼし、他の人々を立てて、これに替えられる。
25 Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
このように、神は彼らのわざを知り、夜の間に彼らをくつがえされるので、彼らはやがて滅びる。
26 He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
彼は人々の見る所で、彼らをその悪のために撃たれる。
27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
これは彼らがそむいて彼に従わず、その道を全く顧みないからだ。
28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.
こうして彼らは貧しき者の叫びを彼のもとにいたらせ、悩める者の叫びを彼に聞かせる。
29 When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hides his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
彼が黙っておられるとき、だれが非難することができようか。彼が顔を隠されるとき、だれが彼を見ることができようか。一国の上にも、一人の上にも同様だ。
30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
これは神を信じない者が世を治めることがなく、民をわなにかける事のないようにするためである。
31 Surely it is meet to be said to God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
だれが神に向かって言ったか、『わたしは罪を犯さないのに、懲しめられた。
32 That which I see not teach you me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
わたしの見ないものをわたしに教えられたい。もしわたしが悪い事をしたなら、重ねてこれをしない』と。
33 Should it be according to your mind? he will recompense it, whether you refuse, or whether you choose; and not I: therefore speak what you know.
あなたが拒むゆえに、彼はあなたの好むように報いをされるであろうか。あなたみずから選ぶがよい、わたしはしない。あなたの知るところを言いなさい。
34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man listen to me.
悟りある人々はわたしに言うだろう、わたしに聞くところの知恵ある人は言うだろう、
35 Job has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
『ヨブの言うところは知識がなく、その言葉は悟りがない』と。
36 My desire is that Job may be tried to the end because of his answers for wicked men.
どうかヨブが終りまで試みられるように、彼は悪人のように答えるからである。
37 For he adds rebellion to his sin, he claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God.
彼は自分の罪に、とがを加え、われわれの中にあって手をうち、神に逆らって、その言葉をしげくする」。
