Job 33
1 Why, Job, I pray you, hear my speeches, and listen to all my words.
Eh bien donc! ô Job, écoute mes discours, et prête l'oreille à toutes mes paroles!
2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue has spoken in my mouth.
Voici, je vais ouvrir la bouche, et déjà ma langue sur mon palais marque ma parole.
3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
La droiture de mon cœur sera dans mon langage, et mes lèvres exprimeront sincèrement ma pensée.
4 The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.
L'Esprit de Dieu m'a créé, et le souffle du Tout-puissant m'anime.
5 If you can answer me, set your words in order before me, stand up.
Si tu le peux, réponds-moi! prépare-toi au combat! prends position!
6 Behold, I am according to your wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
Devant Dieu mon rang est le même que le tien; du limon je fus aussi formé.
7 Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy on you.
Voici, la peur de moi ne peut t'épouvanter, et mon poids ne saurait t'accabler.
8 Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying,
Oui, tu l'as dit à mes propres oreilles, et j'entends encore le son de tes paroles:
9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
« Je suis pur, sans péché, je suis net et sans crime.
10 Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy,
Voici, Il en vient contre moi à des hostilités, et Il me regarde comme son ennemi;
11 He puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths.
Il met des entraves à mes pieds, et surveille toutes mes voies. »
12 Behold, in this you are not just: I will answer you, that God is greater than man.
Voici quelle est ma réponse: En cela tu n'as pas raison; car Dieu est plus grand qu'un mortel.
13 Why do you strive against him? for he gives not account of any of his matters.
Pourquoi Le prends-tu à partie, puisqu'il ne répond point à ce qu'on lui dit?…
14 For God speaks once, yes twice, yet man perceives it not.
Cependant Dieu parle d'une manière, puis d'une autre, mais on n'y prend pas garde;
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumberings on the bed;
c'est par un songe, une vision nocturne, quand le sommeil envahit les hommes assoupis sur leur couche;
16 Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,
alors Il se révèle aux humains, et scelle la leçon qu'il leur donne,
17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
afin de retirer l'homme de son train, et de mettre le mortel à l'abri de l'orgueil,
18 He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
l'empêchant ainsi de descendre au tombeau, et d'exposer sa vie aux coups de l'épée.
19 He is chastened also with pain on his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
La douleur sur son lit vient aussi l'avertir, quand il sent dans ses os un combat incessant,
20 So that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty meat.
quand le pain répugne à son palais, et qu'un mets favori n'excite plus son envie;
21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
quand sa chair dépérit et disparaît, et qu'on voit paraître ses os mis à nu,
22 Yes, his soul draws near to the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
quand son âme s'avance vers le tombeau, et sa vie, vers les anges de la mort.
23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man his uprightness:
S'il se trouve alors un ange pour lui, un intercesseur, l'un d'entre ces mille chargés d'indiquer à l'homme son droit chemin;
24 Then he is gracious to him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
alors Il prend pitié de lui et dit: Rachète-le de la descente au tombeau! j'ai trouvé une rançon.
25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
Aussitôt son corps reprend plus de fraîcheur que dans son enfance; il revient aux jours de sa jeunesse;
26 He shall pray to God, and he will be favorable to him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render to man his righteousness.
il adresse à Dieu sa prière, et Dieu lui redevient propice; il contemple sa face avec des transports, et Dieu lui rend sa justice.
27 He looks on men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
Il triomphe devant les hommes et dit: « J'avais péché et fait fléchir la droiture, mais je n'ai point subi la peine équivalente.
28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
Il a racheté mon âme de la descente au tombeau: Je vis! et la lumière réjouit mes regards. »
29 See, all these things works God oftentimes with man,
Voilà, toutes ces choses, Dieu les fait deux fois, trois fois à l'homme,
30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
pour retirer son âme du tombeau, afin qu'il soit éclairé de la lumière de la vie.
31 Mark well, O Job, listen to me: hold your peace, and I will speak.
O Job! sois attentif! écoute-moi! et je parlerai.
32 If you have anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify you.
Si tu as à parler, réponds-moi! parle, car je désire te donner raison!
33 If not, listen to me: hold your peace, and I shall teach you wisdom.
Sinon, écoute-moi! Garde le silence, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.
