Job 20
1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
そこでナアマびとゾパルは答えて言った、
2 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
「これによって、わたしは答えようとの思いを起し、これがために心中しきりに騒ぎ立つ。
3 I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.
わたしはわたしをはずかしめる非難を聞く、しかし、わたしの悟りの霊がわたしに答えさせる。
4 Know you not this of old, since man was placed on earth,
あなたはこの事を知らないのか、昔から地の上に人の置かれてよりこのかた、
5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
悪しき人の勝ち誇はしばらくであって、神を信じない者の楽しみはただつかのまであることを。
6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds;
たといその高さが天に達し、その頭が雲におよんでも、
7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
彼はおのれの糞のように、とこしえに滅び、彼を見た者は言うであろう、『彼はどこにおるか』と。
8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yes, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
彼は夢のように飛び去って、再び見ることはない。彼は夜の幻のように追い払われるであろう。
9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
彼を見た目はかさねて彼を見ることがなく、彼のいた所も再び彼を見ることがなかろう。
10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
その子らは貧しい者に恵みを求め、その手は彼の貨財を償うであろう。
11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
その骨には若い力が満ちている、しかしそれは彼と共にちりに伏すであろう。
12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
たとい悪は彼の口に甘く、これを舌の裏にかくし、
13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
これを惜しんで捨てることなく、口の中に含んでいても、
14 Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
その食物は彼の腹の中で変り、彼の内で毒蛇の毒となる。
15 He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
彼は貨財をのんでも、またそれを吐き出す、神がそれを彼の腹から押し出されるからだ。
16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper’s tongue shall slay him.
彼は毒蛇の毒を吸い、まむしの舌は彼を殺すであろう。
17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
彼は蜜と凝乳の流れる川々を見ることができない。
18 That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
彼はほねおって獲たものを返して、それを食うことができない。その商いによって得た利益をもって楽しむことができない。
19 Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away an house which he built not;
彼が貧しい者をしえたげ、これを捨てたからだ。彼は家を奪い取っても、それを建てることができない。
20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
彼の欲張りは足ることを知らぬゆえ、その楽しむ何物をも救うことができないであろう。
21 There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
彼が残して食べなかった物とては一つもない。それゆえ、その繁栄はながく続かないであろう。
22 In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come on him.
その力の満ちている時、彼は窮境に陥り、悩みの手がことごとく彼の上に臨むであろう。
23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating.
彼がその腹を満たそうとすれば、神はその激しい怒りを送って、それを彼の上に降り注ぎ、彼の食物とされる。
24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
彼は鉄の武器を免れても、青銅の矢は彼を射通すであろう。
25 It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yes, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: terrors are on him.
彼がこれをその身から引き抜けば、きらめく矢じりがその肝から出てきて、恐れが彼の上に臨む。
26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
もろもろの暗黒が彼の宝物のためにたくわえられ、人が吹き起したものでない火が彼を焼きつくし、その天幕に残っている者を滅ぼすであろう。
27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
天は彼の罪をあらわし、地は起って彼を攻めるであろう。
28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
その家の財産は奪い去られ、神の怒りの日に消えうせるであろう。
29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.
これが悪しき人の神から受ける分、神によって定められた嗣業である」。
