Ecclesiastes 3
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் ஒரு காலமுண்டு, வானத்தின் கீழே ஒவ்வொரு செயலுக்கும் அதற்குரிய காலமுண்டு.
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
பிறப்பதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு, இறப்பதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு; நடுவதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு, பிடுங்குவதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
கொல்வதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு, சுகப்படுத்துவதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு; இடித்து வீழ்த்த ஒரு காலமுண்டு, கட்டி எழுப்ப ஒரு காலமுண்டு;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
அழுவதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு, சிரிப்பதற்கு ஒரு காலமுண்டு; துக்கங்கொண்டாட ஒரு காலமுண்டு, நடனம் ஆட ஒரு காலமுண்டு;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
கற்களை எறிந்துவிட ஒரு காலமுண்டு, கற்களை ஒன்றுசேர்க்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; அணைத்துக்கொள்ள ஒரு காலமுண்டு, அணைத்துக் கொள்ளாதிருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு.
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
தேடிச் சேர்க்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, விட்டுவிட ஒரு காலமுண்டு; வைத்திருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, எறிந்துவிட ஒரு காலமுண்டு;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
கிழித்துப் பிரிக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, தைத்து ஒன்றுசேர்க்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; பேசாமல் இருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, பேச ஒரு காலமுண்டு;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
அன்பாயிருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, பகைக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; யுத்தம் பண்ண ஒரு காலமுண்டு; சமாதானமாயிருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு.
9 What profit has he that works in that wherein he labors?
வேலையாள் தன் உழைப்பினால் பெறும் இலாபம் என்ன?
10 I have seen the travail, which God has given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
இறைவன், மனிதன்மேல் வைத்திருக்கும் பாரத்தை நான் பார்த்திருக்கிறேன்.
11 He has made every thing beautiful in his time: also he has set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end.
அவர் எல்லாவற்றையும் அதினதின் காலத்தில் அழகாய் செய்திருக்கிறார். மனிதருடைய இருதயங்களில் அவர் நித்திய காலத்தின் உணர்வையும் வைத்திருக்கிறார். ஆனால் இறைவன் ஆரம்பம் முதல் இறுதிவரை செய்திருப்பதை அவர்களால் அளவிடமுடியாது.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
மனிதர் வாழும் காலத்தில் சந்தோஷமாய் இருப்பதையும், நன்மை செய்வதையும்விட மேலானது ஒன்றும் இருப்பதாய் எனக்குத் தெரியவில்லை.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God.
ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனும் சாப்பிட்டு, குடித்து, தன் பிரசாயத்தில் திருப்தி காண்பதே இறைவன் கொடுத்த கொடை.
14 I know that, whatever God does, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before him.
இறைவன் செய்கின்ற எதுவும் என்றென்றும் நிலைத்திருக்கும் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியும். அதனுடன் ஒன்றையும் சேர்க்கவோ, அல்லது அதிலிருந்து எதையாவது எடுக்கவோ முடியாது. மனிதர் அவரிடத்தில் பயபக்தியாய் இருப்பதற்காகவே இறைவன் அதைச் செய்கிறார்.
15 That which has been is now; and that which is to be has already been; and God requires that which is past.
இருப்பவை எல்லாம் ஏற்கெனவே இருந்தன, இருக்கப்போகிறவைகளும் முன்பு இருந்தவையே; கடந்ததையும் இறைவன் விசாரிப்பார்.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
சூரியனின் கீழே இன்னுமொன்றை நான் கண்டேன்: நியாயந்தீர்க்கும் இடத்தில் கொடுமை இருந்தது, நீதி வழங்கும் இடத்திலே கொடுமை இருந்தது.
17 I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
நீதியுள்ளவர்களையும், கொடியவர்களையும் இறைவன் நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக்குக் கொண்டுவருவார். ஏனெனில் ஒவ்வொரு செயற்பாட்டிற்கும் ஒரு காலம் உண்டு; ஒவ்வொரு செயலுக்கும் ஒரு காலம் உண்டு என என் இருதயத்தில் நான் நினைத்துக்கொண்டேன்.
18 I said in my heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
மனிதர் தாங்களும் மிருகங்களைப்போலவே இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று கண்டுகொள்ளும்படி, இறைவன் அவர்களைச் சோதனைக்கு உட்படுத்துகிறார். இதையும் நான் நினைத்துக்கொண்டேன்.
19 For that which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one thing befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yes, they have all one breath; so that a man has no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
மனிதருடைய நியதியைப்போலவே, மிருகங்களுடைய நியதியும் இருக்கிறது. ஒரேவிதமான நியதியே மிருகங்களுக்கும், மனிதனுக்கும் காத்திருக்கிறது. மிருகங்கள் சாவதுபோலவே மனிதரும் சாகிறார்கள். எல்லோருக்கும் ஒரேவிதமான சுவாசமே இருக்கின்றது; இதில் மனிதனுக்கு மிருகத்தைவிட மேன்மை இல்லை. எல்லாம் அர்த்தமற்றதே.
20 All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
எல்லாம் ஒரே இடத்திற்கே போகின்றன; அனைத்தும் தூசியிலிருந்தே வருகின்றன, தூசிக்கே திரும்புகின்றன.
21 Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward to the earth?
மனிதனின் ஆவி மேல்நோக்கி எழும்புகிறதென்றோ, மிருகத்தின் ஆவி பூமிக்குள்ளே கீழ்நோக்கி போகிறதென்றோ யாருக்குத் தெரியும்?
22 Why I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
ஆகவே தனது வேலையில் சந்தோஷப்படுவதைவிட நலமானது எதுவும் ஒரு மனிதனுக்கு இல்லை என்று நான் கண்டேன். ஏனெனில் அதுவே அவன் பங்கு. அவனுக்குப் பிறகு என்ன நிகழும் என்பதைக் காணும்படி அவனைக் கொண்டுவர யாரால் முடியும்?
