Deuteronomy 7
1 When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you;
Wenn Jehova, dein Gott, dich in das Land bringt, wohin du kommst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, und viele Nationen vor dir hinaustreibt: die Hethiter und die Girgasiter und die Amoriter und die Kanaaniter und die Perisiter und die Hewiter und die Jebusiter, sieben Nationen, größer und stärker als du,
2 And when the LORD your God shall deliver them before you; you shall smite them, and utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them:
und Jehova, dein Gott, sie vor dir dahingibt, und du sie schlägst, so sollst du sie ganz und gar verbannen; du sollst keinen Bund mit ihnen machen, noch Gnade gegen sie üben.
3 Neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give to his son, nor his daughter shall you take to your son.
Und du sollst dich nicht mit ihnen verschwägern: Deine Tochter sollst du nicht seinem Sohne geben, und seine Tochter sollst du nicht für deinen Sohn nehmen;
4 For they will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy you suddenly.
denn sie würden [O. werden] deine Söhne [W. deinen Sohn] von mir abwendig machen, daß sie anderen Göttern dienten; und der Zorn Jehovas würde [O. wird] wider euch entbrennen, und er würde [O. wird] dich schnell vertilgen.
5 But thus shall you deal with them; you shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
Sondern also sollt ihr ihnen tun: Ihre Altäre sollt ihr niederreißen und ihre Bildsäulen zerbrechen und ihre Ascherim [S. die Vorrede] umhauen und ihre geschnitzten Bilder mit Feuer verbrennen.
6 For you are an holy people to the LORD your God: the LORD your God has chosen you to be a special people to himself, above all people that are on the face of the earth.
Denn ein heiliges Volk bist du Jehova, deinem Gott: dich hat Jehova, dein Gott, erwählt, ihm zum Eigentumsvolke zu sein aus allen Völkern, die auf dem Erdboden sind.
7 The LORD did not set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all people:
Nicht weil euer mehr wären als aller Völker, hat Jehova sich euch zugeneigt und euch erwählt; denn ihr seid das geringste unter allen Völkern;
8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of slaves, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
sondern wegen Jehovas Liebe zu euch, und weil er den Eid hielt, den er euren Vätern geschworen, hat Jehova euch mit starker Hand herausgeführt und dich erlöst aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft, aus der Hand des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten.
9 Know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God, which keeps covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
So wisse denn, daß Jehova, dein Gott, Gott [W. der Gott] ist, der treue Gott, [El] der den Bund und die Güte auf tausend Geschlechter hin denen bewahrt, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote beobachten,
10 And repays them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hates him, he will repay him to his face.
und denen, die ihn hassen, ins Angesicht vergilt, sie zu vertilgen: nicht zögert er mit seinem Hasser, ins Angesicht vergilt er ihm!
11 You shall therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command you this day, to do them.
So sollst du das Gebot und die Satzungen und die Rechte beobachten, die ich dir heute zu tun gebiete.
12 Why it shall come to pass, if you listen to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD your God shall keep to you the covenant and the mercy which he swore to your fathers:
Und es wird geschehen: dafür daß ihr diesen Rechten gehorchet und sie beobachtet und sie tut, wird Jehova, dein Gott, dir den Bund und die Güte bewahren, die er deinen Vätern geschworen hat;
13 And he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you: he will also bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your corn, and your wine, and your oil, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you.
und er wird dich lieben und dich segnen und dich mehren: er wird segnen die Frucht deines Leibes und die Frucht deines Landes, dein Getreide und deinen Most und dein Öl, das Geworfene deiner Rinder und die Zucht deines Kleinviehes, in dem Lande, das er deinen Vätern geschworen hat, dir zu geben.
14 You shall be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
Gesegnet wirst du sein vor allen Völkern; kein Unfruchtbarer und keine Unfruchtbare wird unter dir sein, noch unter deinem Vieh.
15 And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, on you; but will lay them on all them that hate you.
Und Jehova wird jede Krankheit von dir abwenden; und keine der bösen Seuchen Ägyptens, die du kennst, wird er auf dich legen, sondern er wird sie auf alle deine Hasser bringen.
16 And you shall consume all the people which the LORD your God shall deliver you; your eye shall have no pity on them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare to you.
Und du wirst alle Völker verzehren, die Jehova, dein Gott, dir geben wird. Dein Auge soll ihrer nicht schonen, und du sollst ihren Göttern nicht dienen; denn das würde dir ein Fallstrick sein.
17 If you shall say in your heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
Wenn du in deinem Herzen sprichst: Diese Nationen sind größer als ich; wie vermöchte ich sie auszutreiben? -
18 You shall not be afraid of them: but shall well remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt;
fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen; gedenke doch dessen, was Jehova, dein Gott, dem Pharao und allen Ägyptern getan hat,
19 The great temptations which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD your God brought you out: so shall the LORD your God do to all the people of whom you are afraid.
der großen Versuchungen, die deine Augen gesehen, und der Zeichen und der Wunder, und der starken Hand und des ausgestreckten Armes, womit Jehova, dein Gott, dich herausgeführt hat. Also wird Jehova, dein Gott, all den Völkern tun, vor denen du dich fürchtest;
20 Moreover the LORD your God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from you, be destroyed.
und auch die Hornissen wird Jehova, dein Gott, gegen sie entsenden, bis die Übriggebliebenen und die sich vor dir Verbergenden umgekommen sind.
21 You shall not be affrighted at them: for the LORD your God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.
Erschrick nicht vor ihnen! denn Jehova, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, ein großer und furchtbarer Gott. [El]
22 And the LORD your God will put out those nations before you by little and little: you may not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase on you.
Und Jehova, dein Gott, wird diese Nationen nach und nach vor dir austreiben; du wirst sie nicht eilends vernichten können, damit nicht das Wild des Feldes sich wider dich mehre.
23 But the LORD your God shall deliver them to you, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
Und Jehova, dein Gott, wird sie vor dir dahingeben und sie in große Verwirrung versetzen, bis sie vertilgt sind.
24 And he shall deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.
Und er wird ihre Könige in deine Hand geben, und du wirst ihre Namen vernichten unter dem Himmel hinweg; kein Mensch wird vor dir bestehen, bis du sie vertilgt hast.
25 The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire: you shall not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it to you, lest you be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
Die geschnitzten Bilder ihrer Götter sollt ihr mit Feuer verbrennen; du sollst nicht das Silber und das Gold an ihnen begehren und es dir nehmen, daß du nicht dadurch verstrickt werdest; denn es ist ein Greuel für Jehova, deinen Gott;
26 Neither shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it: but you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
und du sollst keinen Greuel in dein Haus bringen, so daß du ein Bann werdest gleich ihm; du sollst es ganz und gar verabscheuen und es gänzlich für einen Greuel halten, denn es ist ein Bann.
