Deuteronomy 23

1 He that is wounded in the stones, or has his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

Celui qui est émasculé par écrasement ou par coupure n'entrera pas dans l'assemblée de l'Éternel.

2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

Celui qui est né d'une union interdite n'entrera pas dans l'assemblée de l'Éternel; jusqu'à la dixième génération, aucun de ses membres n'entrera dans l'assemblée de l'Éternel.

3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:

Un Ammonite ou un Moabite n'entrera pas dans l'assemblée de Yahvé; aucun de leurs descendants n'entrera à jamais dans l'assemblée de Yahvé, jusqu'à la dixième génération.

4 Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when you came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.

Parce qu'ils ne t'ont pas apporté du pain et de l'eau sur le chemin, à ta sortie d'Égypte, et parce qu'ils ont engagé contre toi Balaam, fils de Beor, de Pethor, en Mésopotamie, pour te maudire.

5 Nevertheless the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam; but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because the LORD your God loved you.

Mais l'Éternel, ton Dieu, n'a pas voulu écouter Balaam, et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, a transformé la malédiction en bénédiction pour toi, car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a aimé.

6 You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days for ever.

Tu ne rechercheras pas leur paix ni leur prospérité, tout au long de ta vie.

7 You shall not abhor an Edomite; for he is your brother: you shall not abhor an Egyptian; because you were a stranger in his land.

Tu n'auras pas en horreur un Édomite, car il est ton frère. Tu n'auras pas en horreur un Égyptien, car tu as vécu comme un étranger dans son pays.

8 The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.

Les enfants de la troisième génération qui leur sont nés pourront entrer dans l'assemblée de Yahvé.

9 When the host goes forth against your enemies, then keep you from every wicked thing.

Lorsque vous sortirez et camperez contre vos ennemis, vous vous préserverez de tout mal.

10 If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chances him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:

S'il y a parmi vous un homme qui n'est pas pur à cause de ce qui lui arrive pendant la nuit, il sortira du camp. Il ne rentrera pas dans le camp;

11 But it shall be, when evening comes on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.

mais, le soir venu, il se baignera dans l'eau. Au coucher du soleil, il rentrera dans le camp.

12 You shall have a place also without the camp, where you shall go forth abroad:

Tu auras aussi un endroit hors du camp où tu feras tes besoins.

13 And you shall have a paddle on your weapon; and it shall be, when you will ease yourself abroad, you shall dig therewith, and shall turn back and cover that which comes from you:

Tu auras une truelle parmi tes armes. Lorsque tu te soulageras, tu creuseras avec elle, puis tu te retourneras et tu couvriras tes excréments;

14 For the LORD your God walks in the middle of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you; therefore shall your camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in you, and turn away from you.

car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, marche au milieu de ton camp, pour te délivrer et pour livrer tes ennemis devant toi. C'est pourquoi ton camp sera saint, afin qu'il ne voie pas chez toi une chose impure et qu'il ne se détourne pas de toi.

15 You shall not deliver to his master the servant which is escaped from his master to you:

Tu ne livreras pas à son maître un esclave qui s'est échappé de son maître pour venir chez toi.

16 He shall dwell with you, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of your gates, where it likes him best: you shall not oppress him.

Il habitera chez toi, au milieu de toi, à l'endroit qu'il choisira dans l'une de tes portes, là où il lui plaira le mieux. Tu ne l'opprimeras pas.

17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

Il n'y aura pas de prostituée parmi les filles d'Israël, et il n'y aura pas de sodomite parmi les fils d'Israël.

18 You shall not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD your God for any vow: for even both these are abomination to the LORD your God.

Tu n'apporteras dans la maison de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, ni le salaire d'une prostituée, ni le salaire d'un prostitué, pour un vœu quelconque, car ces deux choses sont en abomination à l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

19 You shall not lend on usury to your brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent on usury:

Tu ne prêteras pas à intérêt à ton frère: intérêt d'argent, intérêt de nourriture, intérêt de tout ce qui se prête à intérêt.

20 To a stranger you may lend on usury; but to your brother you shall not lend on usury: that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you set your hand to in the land where you go to possess it.

Tu pourras prêter à intérêt à un étranger, mais tu ne prêteras pas à intérêt à ton frère, afin que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénisse dans tout ce que tu entreprendras, dans le pays dont tu vas entrer en possession.

21 When you shall vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not slack to pay it: for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be sin in you.

Lorsque tu feras un vœu à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, tu ne te relâcheras pas pour l'accomplir, car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, l'exigera de toi, et ce serait un péché pour toi.

22 But if you shall forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in you.

Mais si tu t'abstiens de faire un vœu, ce ne sera pas un péché pour toi.

23 That which is gone out of your lips you shall keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as you have vowed to the LORD your God, which you have promised with your mouth.

Tu observeras et tu feras ce qui est sorti de tes lèvres. Tout ce que tu as voué à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, comme offrande volontaire, ce que tu as promis de ta bouche, tu dois le faire.

24 When you come into your neighbor’s vineyard, then you may eat grapes your fill at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any in your vessel.

Lorsque tu entreras dans la vigne de ton prochain, tu pourras manger du raisin à ton gré, mais tu n'en mettras pas dans ton récipient.

25 When you come into the standing corn of your neighbor, then you may pluck the ears with your hand; but you shall not move a sickle to your neighbor’s standing corn.

Si tu entres dans le blé sur pied de ton prochain, tu pourras arracher les épis avec ta main, mais tu ne te serviras pas de la faucille sur le blé sur pied de ton prochain.
