1 Samuel 15
1 Samuel also said to Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore listen you to the voice of the words of the LORD.
Một hôm, Sa-mu-ên nói với Sau-lơ: “Tôi đã vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu xức dầu cho ông làm vua Ít-ra-ên. Vậy, bây giờ ông nên thận trọng nghe lời Chúa Hằng Hữu!
2 Thus says the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân công bố: Ta sẽ trừng phạt A-ma-léc vì đã cản đường Ít-ra-ên khi họ rời Ai Cập.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
Bây giờ, ngươi phải đi đánh người A-ma-léc, tận diệt cả nam phụ lão ấu, bò, chiên, lạc đà, và lừa của họ.”
4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
Vậy, tại Tê-la-im, Sau-lơ triệu tập quân lính được 200.000 người chưa kể 10.000 quân Giu-đa.
5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
Ông kéo quân đến gần thành của người A-ma-léc, dàn trận trong thung lũng.
6 And Saul said to the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
Sau-lơ sai người cảnh cáo người Kê-nít: “Hãy tránh xa người A-ma-léc để khỏi bị vạ lây, vì anh em đã cư xử tử tế với Ít-ra-ên khi chúng tôi rời Ai Cập.” Vậy người Kê-nít thu dọn mọi thứ rồi rời khỏi.
7 And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until you come to Shur, that is over against Egypt.
Sau-lơ đánh bại người A-ma-léc từ Ha-vi-la đến Su-rơ, về phía đông Ai Cập.
8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
Ông bắt sống A-ga, vua A-ma-léc, và tàn sát tất cả dân chúng.
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatted calves, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
Nhưng Sau-lơ và quân lính tha chết cho A-ga, cũng không giết những chiên, bò tốt nhất, và những chiên con béo mập nhất, thật ra họ giữ lại những gì tốt cho mình. Họ chỉ tiêu diệt những thứ gì xấu hoặc không giá trị mà thôi.
10 Then came the word of the LORD to Samuel, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Sa-mu-ên:
11 It repents me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried to the LORD all night.
“Ta rất tiếc là đã cho Sau-lơ làm vua, vì người đã không vâng lời Ta.” Sa-mu-ên vô cùng đau buồn khi nghe điều này nên ông đã khóc với Chúa Hằng Hữu suốt đêm.
12 And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.
Sáng sớm hôm sau, Sa-mu-ên đi tìm Sau-lơ. Có người nói với ông: “Sau-lơ đã đi lên núi Cát-mên dựng cho mình một đài kỷ niệm; sau đó người đi xuống Ghinh-ganh.”
13 And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said to him, Blessed be you of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.
Khi Sa-mu-ên tìm được người, Sau-lơ lên tiếng trước: “Xin Chúa Hằng Hữu ban phước lành cho ông. Tôi thi hành lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu xong rồi!”
14 And Samuel said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
Nhưng Sa-mu-ên hỏi: “Thế sao tôi còn nghe tiếng chiên kêu và tiếng bò rống?”
15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
Sau-lơ đáp: “Đúng vậy, quân lính có giữ lại những con bò và chiên tốt nhất của người A-ma-léc để dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của ông. Chúng tôi đã giết sạch phần còn lại.”
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me this night. And he said to him, Say on.
Sa-mu-ên nói với Sau-lơ: “Xin đừng nói nữa! Xin lắng nghe những điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán dạy tôi tối qua!” Sau-lơ hỏi: “Chúa đã phán gì với ông?”
17 And Samuel said, When you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed you king over Israel?
Sa-mu-ên tiếp: “Trong lúc ông tự biết mình thấp hèn, Chúa Hằng Hữu đã cho ông lãnh đạo các đại tộc, xức dầu cho ông làm vua Ít-ra-ên.
18 And the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
Chúa Hằng Hữu đã sai ông đi với sứ mệnh rằng: ‘Hãy tận diệt người A-ma-léc không để lại một ai.’
19 Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did fly on the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD?
Nhưng tại sao ông không vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu? Tại sao ông lấy của cướp, làm điều xấu xa trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu?”
20 And Saul said to Samuel, Yes, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
Sau-lơ đáp: “Tôi có vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, tôi có thi hành sứ mệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu giao đó chứ. Tôi chỉ dẫn Vua A-ga về, còn giết sạch người A-ma-léc.
21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.
Nhưng quân lính có giữ lại những con chiên, dê, và bò tốt nhất để dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của ông, tại Ghinh-ganh.”
22 And Samuel said, Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
Sa-mu-ên nói: “Điều gì Chúa Hằng Hữu vui lòng hơn: của lễ thiêu và các sinh tế, hay sự vâng lời Ngài? Này! Sự vâng lời tốt hơn sinh tế, và sự nghe theo tốt hơn dâng mỡ chiên đực.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.
Phản nghịch còn tệ hơn tà thuật, ương ngạnh còn tệ hơn thờ tà thần. Vì ông dám cãi lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu, nên Ngài cũng từ khước không cho ông làm vua nữa!”
24 And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
Sau-lơ thú nhận với Sa-mu-ên: “Tôi có tội! Tôi không tuân lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu, tôi không nghe lời ông vì tôi sợ dân và làm theo điều họ muốn.
25 Now therefore, I pray you, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.
Xin tha tội cho tôi và về với tôi để tôi thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu.”
26 And Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you: for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.
Nhưng Sa-mu-ên đáp: “Tôi sẽ không về với ông! Vì ông dám cãi lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu, nên Ngài không còn cho ông làm vua Ít-ra-ên nữa!”
27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold on the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.
Khi Sa-mu-ên quay mình bước đi, Sau-lơ nắm áo giữ ông lại, làm chiếc áo rách ra.
28 And Samuel said to him, The LORD has rent the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, that is better than you.
Sa-mu-ên nói: “Hôm nay Chúa Hằng Hữu cũng xé nước Ít-ra-ên khỏi tay ông như thế và đem giao nước cho một người thân cận với ông là người xứng đáng hơn ông.
29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.
Chúa là Đấng Vinh Quang của Ít-ra-ên không bao giờ nói dối, hay đổi ý, vì Ngài không phải là loài người có thể đổi ý!”
30 Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.
Sau-lơ lại van nài: “Tôi biết tôi có tội. Nhưng trước mặt các trưởng lão và toàn dân Ít-ra-ên, xin cùng đi về để tôi thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của ông.”
31 So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
Cuối cùng Sa-mu-ên đồng ý và đi về với vua, và Sau-lơ thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu.
32 Then said Samuel, Bring you here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came to him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
Sau đó, Sa-mu-ên nói: “Hãy đem Vua A-ga đến đây.” Khi được dẫn đến, A-ga mặt mày hớn hở, mừng thầm: “Chắc ta được thoát chết rồi!”
33 And Samuel said, As the sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
Nhưng Sa-mu-ên nói: “Vì lưỡi gươm của ngươi đã làm cho nhiều bà mẹ mất con, mẹ ngươi cũng phải mất con như vậy.” Rồi Sa-mu-ên giết A-ga trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu tại Ghinh-ganh.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
Sau đó, Sa-mu-ên về Ra-ma, còn Sau-lơ về Ghi-bê-a.
35 And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
Sa-mu-ên không còn gặp Sau-lơ nữa cho đến ngày người chết, vì quá đau đớn về việc Sau-lơ. Còn Chúa Hằng Hữu tiếc vì đã lập Sau-lơ làm vua Ít-ra-ên.
