1 Kings 20
1 And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.
அப்போது சீரிய அரசன் பெனாதாத் தன் முழு இராணுவப் படையையும் ஒன்றுதிரட்டினான். அவன் முப்பத்திரண்டு அரசர்கள், அவர்களுடைய குதிரைகள், தேர்கள் ஆகியவற்றுடன் போய், சமாரியாவை முற்றுகையிட்டுத் தாக்கினான்.
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said to him, Thus says Benhadad,
அவன் பட்டணத்துக்குள்ளே இஸ்ரயேல் அரசனான ஆகாபிடம் சில தூதுவரை அனுப்பி, “பெனாதாத் சொல்வது இதுவே:
3 Your silver and your gold is mine; your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.
‘உன்னுடைய வெள்ளியும், தங்கமும் என்னுடையவை. உன்னுடைய மனைவிகளில் சிறந்தவர்களும் பிள்ளைகளும் என்னுடையவர்கள்’” என்றான்.
4 And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to your saying, I am yours, and all that I have.
அதற்கு இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் மறுமொழியாக, “என் தலைவனாகிய அரசனே, உம்முடைய சொற்படி நானும் எனக்குரியவை யாவும் உம்முடையவைகளே” என்று கூறினான்.
5 And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent to you, saying, You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;
தூதுவர்கள் திரும்பவும் வந்து, “பெனாதாத் கூறுவதாவது. ‘உன்னுடைய வெள்ளியையும் தங்கத்தையும், மனைவிகளையும் பிள்ளைகளையும் என்னிடம் தரும்படி கட்டளை அனுப்பினேன்.
6 Yet I will send my servants to you to morrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
ஆனால் நாளைக்கோ இந்நேரத்தில் உன் அரண்மனையையும், உன் அலுவலர்களுடைய வீடுகளையும் ஆராய்ந்து தேடுவதற்கு என்னுடைய அலுவலர்களை அனுப்புவேன். நீ சிறந்தவையாக மதிக்கும் யாவற்றையும் அவர்கள் கவர்ந்துகொண்டு போவார்கள்’ என்று சொல்கிறான்” என்றார்கள்.
7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeks mischief: for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசன் நாட்டிலுள்ள முதியவர்களையெல்லாம் அழைப்பித்து அவர்களிடம், “இந்த மனிதன் எப்படிக் கஷ்டத்தைக் கொடுக்கிறான் என்று பாருங்கள். அவன் என் மனைவிகளையும், பிள்ளைகளையும், வெள்ளியையும், தங்கத்தையும் கேட்டு ஆளனுப்பியபோது நான் மறுக்கவில்லை” என்றான்.
8 And all the elders and all the people said to him, Listen not to him, nor consent.
எல்லா முதியவர்களும் மக்களும் அவனைப் பார்த்து, “அவனுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கவும் வேண்டாம். அவன் கேட்டவைகளைக் கொடுக்க உடன்படவும் வேண்டாம்” என்றார்கள்.
9 Why he said to the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that you did send for to your servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
அப்பொழுது அவன் பெனாதாத்தின் தூதுவரைப் பார்த்து, “என் அரசனாகிய தலைவனிடம், ‘நீர் முதல்முறை கேட்ட யாவற்றையும் செய்வேன். ஆனால் இந்த வேண்டுகோளை என்னால் செய்யமுடியாது’” என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினான். அவர்கள் அந்தப் பதிலை பெற்றுக்கொண்டு பெனாதாத்திடம் போனார்கள்.
10 And Benhadad sent to him, and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
அதற்கு பெனாதாத் ஆகாபிடம், “என் மனிதர் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் எடுக்கக்கூடியதாக ஒருபிடி தூசியாவது சமாரியாவில் எஞ்சியிருந்தால், தெய்வங்கள் எவ்வளவு அதிகமாகவும் என்னை தண்டிக்கட்டும்” என்று வேறொரு செய்தியை அனுப்பினான்.
11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girds on his harness boast himself as he that puts it off.
இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் அதற்குப் பதிலாக, “கவசத்தை களைந்தவனைப்போல், அதை அணிந்திருக்கிறவன் தன்னைப் புகழக்கூடாது என்று அவனுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள்” என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினான்.
12 And it came to pass, when Benhadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.
இச்செய்தி வந்தபோது தன் கூடாரத்தில் பெனாதாத் மற்ற அரசர்களோடுகூட குடித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான். இதைக் கேட்டவுடன் தன் மனிதர்களிடம், “தாக்குவதற்கு ஆயத்தப்படுங்கள்” என்றான். அப்படியே அவர்கள் பட்டணத்தைத் தாக்குவதற்கு ஆயத்தமானார்கள்.
13 And, behold, there came a prophet to Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD.
இதற்கிடையில் இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசன் ஆகாபிடம் ஒரு இறைவாக்கினன் வந்து, “யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: ‘இந்தப் பெரும் படையைக் காண்கிறாயா? இன்றைக்கே அவர்கள் யாவரையும் உன் கையில் ஒப்புவிப்பேன். அப்பொழுது நான்தான் யெகோவா என்பதை நீ அறிந்துகொள்வாய்’” என்றான்.
14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus says the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, You.
அதற்கு ஆகாப், “இதை யார் செய்வார்?” என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு இறைவாக்கினன், “யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: ‘உன் மாகாண தளபதிகளில் வாலிப அலுவலர்களே இதைச் செய்வார்கள்’ என்கிறார்” என்றான். “யார் யுத்தத்தைத் தொடங்குவார்?” என்று ஆகாப் கேட்டான். அதற்கு இறைவாக்கினன், “நீ தான்” என்று பதில் கூறினான்.
15 Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
அந்தப்படியே ஆகாப் மாகாண தளபதிகளின் வாலிப அலுவலர்கள் இருநூற்று முப்பத்தி இரண்டுபேரை வரும்படி அழைத்தான். அதன்பின் மிகுதி இஸ்ரயேலரையும் சேர்த்து மொத்தம் ஏழாயிரம் பேரைக் கூடிவரச் செய்தான்.
16 And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
நண்பகல் நேரத்தில் பெனாதாத்தும், அவனுடைய நட்பு அரசர்களான முப்பத்தி இரண்டு அரசர்களும் கூடாரங்களுக்குள் குடிவெறியில் இருக்கும்போது ஆகாபின் படை புறப்பட்டது.
17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
முதலில் மாகாண தளபதிகளின் வாலிப அலுவலர்கள் புறப்பட்டார்கள். அப்போது பெனாதாத் அனுப்பிய வேவுக்காரர்கள், “சமாரியாவிலிருந்து படைவீரர் முன்னேறி வருகிறார்கள்” என்று அறிவித்தார்கள்.
18 And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
அதற்கு பெனாதாத், “அவர்கள் சமாதானமாக வந்தாலென்ன, யுத்தத்திற்கு வந்தாலென்ன அவர்களை உயிருடன் பிடியுங்கள்” என்றான்.
19 So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
மாகாண தளபதிகளின் வாலிப அலுவலர்கள் இராணுவம் தம்மைப் பின்தொடரப் பட்டணத்தைவிட்டு வெளியே அணிவகுத்துச் சென்றார்கள்.
20 And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.
ஒவ்வொருவனும் தன்னை எதிர்த்து வருபவனைத் தாக்கினான். அவ்வேளையில் சீரியரும் தப்பி ஓடினார்கள். இஸ்ரயேலர் அவர்களைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து துரத்தினார்கள். ஆனால் சீரிய அரசனான பெனாதாத் தன் குதிரைவீரர் சிலருடன் குதிரையில் ஏறித் தப்பியோடினான்.
21 And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் முன்னேறிச் சென்று அவர்களின் குதிரைகளையும், தேர்களையும் மேற்கொண்டு சீரிய இராணுவத்துக்கு பெரும் இழப்பை விளைவித்தான்.
22 And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.
இதன்பின்பு இறைவாக்கினன், இஸ்ரயேல் அரசனிடம் வந்து, “உன்னுடைய நிலையை பெலப்படுத்திக்கொள், இனி நீ என்ன செய்யவேண்டுமென்று யோசித்துப்பார். ஏனென்றால் அடுத்த வசந்தகாலத்தில் சீரிய அரசன் உன்னைத் திரும்பவும் தாக்குவான்” என்றான்.
23 And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
இதற்கிடையில் சீரிய அரசனின் அலுவலர்கள் அரசனிடம் வந்து, “அவர்களுடைய தெய்வங்கள் மலைகளின் தெய்வங்கள். அதனால்தான் அவர்களை எங்களால் மேற்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. ஆனால் சமபூமியில் அவர்களுடன் சண்டையிட்டால் நிச்சயமாய் அவர்களைவிட பலமுள்ளவர்களாயிருப்போம்.
24 And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
ஆகவே இப்படிச் செய்யும், எல்லா அரசர்களையும், அவர்களுடைய தலைமைப் பதவிகளிலிருந்து விலக்கி, அவர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக அவர்களின் இடங்களில் வேறு அதிகாரிகளை நியமியும்.
25 And number you an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he listened to their voice, and did so.
நாங்கள் சமபூமியில் இஸ்ரயேலருடன் யுத்தம் செய்யும்படியாக, நீர் இழந்த இராணுவத்தைப்போல் குதிரைக்குக் குதிரையும், தேருக்கு தேருமாக ஒரு இராணுவத்தை உருவாக்கும். அப்பொழுது நாங்கள் அவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் பலமுள்ளவர்களாயிருப்போம்” என்று ஆலோசனை கொடுத்தார்கள். அரசன் அதற்கு உடன்பட்டு அதன்படியே நடந்தான்.
26 And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
அடுத்த வசந்தகாலத்தில் பெனாதாத் சீரியரைச் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு எதிராகச் சண்டையிடும்படி ஆப்பெக் வரையும் போனான்.
27 And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
இஸ்ரயேலரும் படை திரட்டிக்கொண்டு உணவுப் பொருட்களுடன் அவர்களை எதிர்க்க அணிவகுத்துச் சென்றனர். இஸ்ரயேலர் அவர்களுக்கெதிரில் இரு சிறிய வெள்ளாட்டு மந்தைகளைப்போல முகாம் அமைத்து இருந்தார்கள். சீரியரோ நாடு முழுவதிலும் நிரம்பியிருந்தார்கள்.
28 And there came a man of God, and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, Thus says the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.
இறைவனுடைய மனிதன் இஸ்ரயேல் அரசனிடம் வந்து, “யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: ‘யெகோவாவே மலைகளின் தெய்வம் என்றும், பள்ளத்தாக்கின் தெய்வம் அல்ல என்றும் சீரியா நினைப்பதால் இந்தப் பெரும் படையை உன் கையில் கொடுப்பேன். அதனால் நீயும் நானே யெகோவா என்று அறிந்துகொள்வாய்’ என்கிறார்” என்றான்.
29 And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.
ஏழு நாட்களாக இரு படைகளும் ஒன்றுக்கொன்று எதிர்முகமாக முகாம் அமைத்திருந்து, ஏழாம்நாளில் யுத்தத்தைத் தொடங்கினர். இஸ்ரயேலர் ஒரு நாளிலேயே ஒரு இலட்சம் சீரிய காலாட்படை வீரரைக் கொன்றனர்.
30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell on twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
அவர்களில் மீதியானோர் ஆப்பெக் நகரத்துக்குத் தப்பியோடினர். அங்கே அவர்களில் இருபத்தி ஏழாயிரம்பேர் பட்டண மதில் இடிந்து விழுந்ததினால் அழிந்தார்கள். பெனாதாத் பட்டணத்துக்குள் தப்பியோடி, உள்ளறை ஒன்றில் ஒளித்திருந்தான்.
31 And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray you, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save your life.
அவனுடைய அதிகாரிகள் அவனைப் பார்த்து, “இஸ்ரயேல் அரசர்கள் மிகவும் இரக்கமுள்ளவர்களென்று கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம். நாங்கள் அரையில் துக்கவுடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டு தலையில் கயிறுகளையும் கட்டிக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரயேல் அரசனிடம் போய்ப் பார்ப்போம். சில வேளை அவன் உம்மை உயிரோடு இருக்கவிடுவான்” என்றார்கள்.
32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Your servant Benhadad says, I pray you, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
அவ்வாறே அவர்கள் அரைகளில் துக்கவுடையையும், தலைகளில் கயிறுகளையும் கட்டிக்கொண்டு, இஸ்ரயேல் அரசனிடம் போய், “தயவுசெய்து என்னை உயிருடன் வாழவிடும் என்று உம்முடைய அடியவனாகிய பெனாதாத் கேட்கிறான்” என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அரசன், “அவன் இன்னும் உயிரோடிருக்கிறானா? அவன் என் சகோதரன்” என்றான்.
33 Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Your brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go you, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
அந்த மனிதர் இதை ஒரு நல்ல அடையாளமாக எண்ணி, அவன் சொன்ன வார்த்தையின்படியே, “ஆம் உம்முடைய சகோதரன் பெனாதாத் உயிரோடிருக்கிறான்” என்றார்கள். அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன், “போய் அவனைக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள்” என்றான். பெனாதாத் வெளியே வந்ததும் தனது தேருக்குள் அவனை ஏற்றினான்.
34 And Benhadad said to him, The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
பெனாதாத் ஆகாபிடம், “என் தகப்பன் உமது தகப்பனிடமிருந்து கைப்பற்றிய பட்டணங்களெல்லாவற்றையும் நான் உமக்குத் திரும்பத் தருவேன். என் தகப்பன் சமாரியாவில் சந்தைப் பகுதிகளை அமைத்ததுபோல நீரும் தமஸ்குவில் சந்தைப் பகுதிகளை அமைக்கலாம்” என்றான். அதற்கு ஆகாப், “ஒரு ஒப்பந்தத்தின் பெயரில் நான் உன்னைப் போகவிடுகிறேன்” என்றான். எனவே ஆகாப் அவனுடன் ஒரு ஒப்பந்தம் செய்து, அவனைப் போகவிட்டான்.
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray you. And the man refused to smite him.
யெகோவாவின் வாக்குப்படி இறைவாக்கினர் குழுவைச் சார்ந்த ஒருவன் தன் தோழனைப் பார்த்து, “உன் ஆயுதத்தால் என்னை அடி” என்றான். அந்த மனிதன் மறுத்துவிட்டான்.
36 Then said he to him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
அப்பொழுது அந்த இறைவாக்கினன் அவனிடம், “யெகோவாவுக்கு நீ கீழ்ப்படியாமல் போனபடியால் நீ என்னைவிட்டு போனவுடன் ஒரு சிங்கம் உன்னைக் கொல்லும்” என்றான். அதேபோலவே அவன் சென்ற உடனேயே ஒரு சிங்கம் எதிரில் வந்து அவனைக் கொன்றுபோட்டது.
37 Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray you. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.
அப்பொழுது அந்த இறைவாக்கினன் வேறொருவனைப் பார்த்து, “தயவுசெய்து என்னை அடி” என்றான். அப்படியே அவன் அவனை அடித்துக் காயப்படுத்தினான்.
38 So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes on his face.
அதன்பின்பு அந்த இறைவாக்கினன் அரசனுக்காக வீதியோரமாய் காத்திருந்தான். அவன் தன்னை மாறுவேடத்தில் காண்பிப்பதற்காகத் தன் கண்களுக்கு மேல் ஒரு பட்டியைக் கட்டியிருந்தான்.
39 And as the king passed by, he cried to the king: and he said, Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.
அரசன் அவ்வழியாய் கடந்துபோனபோது இறைவாக்கினன் அவனிடம் சத்தமிட்டுச் சொன்னதாவது: “நான் ஒரு உக்கிரமான யுத்தத்தின் நடுவே போனபோது, ஒருவன் என்னிடம் ஒரு கைதியுடன் வந்து, ‘இவனைக் பாதுகாப்பாக வைத்துக்கொள்ளும். இவன் காணாமற்போனால் இவனுடைய உயிருக்காக உன்னுடைய உயிரைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் அல்லது நீ ஒரு தாலந்து வெள்ளி கொடுக்கவேண்டும்’ என்று சொன்னான்.
40 And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it.
உமது அடியவனாகிய நான் அங்குமிங்குமாக அவசர வேலையாக இருந்தபோது, அந்தக் கைதி காணாமல் போய்விட்டான்” என்றான். அதற்கு இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன், “அதுதான் உனக்குரிய தீர்ப்பு. உனது வாயினாலேயே தீர்ப்புக் கூறிவிட்டாய்” என்றான்.
41 And he hurried, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
அப்பொழுது இறைவாக்கினன் விரைவாக தன் கண்களின் மேலிருந்த பட்டையை அவிழ்த்தான். அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் அவன் இறைவாக்கினன் ஒருவன் என்பதை அறிந்துகொண்டான்.
42 And he said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.
இறைவாக்கினன் அரசனைப் பார்த்து, “யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: சாகவேண்டுமென்று நான் தீர்மானித்த ஒருவனை நீ விடுதலையாக்கினாய். ஆகையினால் அவனுடைய உயிருக்காக உன் உயிரும், அவனுடைய மக்களுக்காக உன் மக்களும் சாகவேண்டும்” என்று கூறினான்.
43 And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் கோபத்துடனும் சலிப்புடனும் சமாரியாவிலுள்ள தன் அரண்மனைக்குப் போனான்.
