Psalms 97

1 The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad.

Jahwe herrscht nun als König: drob jauchze die Erde, / Es mögen sich auch viele Inseln freun!

2 Clouds and darkness are round about Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.

Gewölk und Dunkel sind um ihn her, / Recht und Gerechtigkeit sind seines Thrones Stützen.

3 A fire goeth before Him, and burneth up His adversaries round about.

Feuer geht vor ihm her / Und verzehrt ringsum seine Feinde.

4 His lightnings lighted up the world; the earth saw, and trembled.

Seine Blitze erhellen den Erdkreis, / Die Erde sieht es und bebt vor Angst.

5 The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

Wie Wachs sind Berge vor Jahwe zerschmolzen, / Vor dem Herrn der ganzen Erde.

6 The heavens declared His righteousness, and all the peoples saw His glory.

Die Himmel haben sein Recht verkündet, / Seine Herrlichkeit schauen die Völker alle.

7 Ashamed be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of things of nought; bow down to Him, all ye gods.

Beschämt sollen stehn alle Bilderdiener, / Die sich der nichtigen Götzen rühmen: / Ihm haben ja alle Götter gehuldigt.

8 Zion heard and was glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoiced; because of Thy judgments, O LORD.

Mit Freunden hat es Zion vernommen, / Und Judas Töchter haben frohlockt / Ob deiner Gerichte, o Jahwe.

9 For Thou, LORD, art most high above all the earth; Thou art exalted far above all gods.

Denn du, o Jahwe, bist der Höchste in aller Welt, / Bist hoch erhaben über alle Götter.

10 O ye that love the LORD, hate evil; He preserveth the souls of His saints; He delivered them out of the hand of the wicked.

Die Jahwe lieben, hassen das Böse. / Er, der seiner Frommen Seelen behütet, / Wird sie aus der Frevler Hand erretten.

11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Licht erstrahlt dem Gerechten / Und Freude den Redlichgesinnten.

12 Be glad in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks to His holy name.

Drum freuet euch Jahwes, ihr Gerechten, / Und preiset sein heilig Gedächtnis!
