Psalms 91

1 O thou that dwellest in the covert of the Most High, and abidest in the shadow of the Almighty;

Chant de louange de David. Celui qui demeure en la protection du Très-Haut habitera en un séjour abrité par le Dieu du ciel.

2 I will say of the LORD, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust,

Il dira au Seigneur: tu es mon champion et mon refuge, ô mon Dieu. J'espèrerai en lui;

3 That He will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

Car il te délivrera des filets des chasseurs et des paroles amères.

4 He will cover thee with His pinions, and under His wings shalt thou take refuge; His truth is a shield and a buckler.

Il te couvrira de l'ombre de ses ailes, et sous ses ailes tu auras l'espérance.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flieth by day;

Sa vérité t'environnera comme une armure; tu n'auras rien à craindre des épouvantements de la nuit,

6 Of the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor of the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

Ni des traits qui volent en plein jour, ni des choses qui cheminent dans les ténèbres, ni des accidents, ni du démon du midi.

7 A thousand may fall at Thy side, and ten thousand at Thy right hand; it shall not come nigh thee.

Mille tomberont à ta gauche, et dix mille à ta droite; mais ils n'approcheront point de toi.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold, and see the recompense of the wicked.

Cependant, tu considéreras de tes yeux, et tu verras la punition infligée aux pécheurs.

9 For thou hast made the LORD who is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation.

Car tu as dit: Seigneur, tu es mon espérance; et tu as fait du Très-Haut ton refuge.

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent.

Les maux n'arriveront point jusqu'à toi, et les flagellations n'approcheront point de ta tente.

11 For He will give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Car il a donné des ordres à ses anges, pour qu'ils te gardent en toutes tes voies.

12 They shall bear thee upon their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Ils te soulèveront de leurs mains, de peur que tes pieds ne heurtent contre une pierre.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and asp; the young lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under feet.

Tu marcheras sur l'aspic et sur le basilic, et tu fouleras aux pieds le lion et le dragon.

14 'Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he hath known My name.

Car le Seigneur a dit: Il a espéré en moi, et je le délivrerai; je l'abriterai, parce qu'il a connu mon nom.

15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him, and bring him to honour.

Il m'invoquera, et moi je l'exaucerai; je serai avec lui en ses tribulations; et je le délivrerai, et je le glorifierai.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and make Him to behold My salvation.'

Je le remplirai de longs jours, et je lui montrerai mon salut.
