Psalms 81
1 For the Leader; upon the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud unto God our strength; shout unto the God of Jacob.
Voor muziekbegeleiding; op de gittiet. Van Asaf. Jubelt voor God, onze sterkte, Juicht den God van Jakob ter eer;
2 Take up the melody, and sound the timbrel, the sweet harp with the psaltery.
Stemt lofzangen aan, slaat de pauken, Met lieflijke citer en harp;
3 Blow the horn at the new moon, at the full moon for our feast-day.
Steekt deze maand de bazuinen, Bij volle maan voor de dag van ons feest!
4 For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
Want dit is een voorschrift aan Israël, En een bevel van Jakobs God:
5 He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony, when He went forth against the land of Egypt. The speech of one that I knew not did I hear:
Een gebod, aan Josef gegeven, Na zijn tocht uit het land van Egypte, Toen hij een woord vernam, Dat hij nooit had gehoord:
6 'I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the basket.
Ik heb de last van uw schouders genomen, En uw handen werden van de draagkorf bevrijd.
7 Thou didst call in trouble, and I rescued thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. (Selah)
Gij riept in de nood, En Ik heb u verlost, In donderwolken u verhoord, Bij de wateren van Meriba u beproefd.
8 Hear, O My people, and I will admonish thee: O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto Me!
Hoor, mijn volk, Ik ga het u plechtig verkonden; Israël, ach, luister naar Mij:
9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any foreign god.
Geen andere god mag er onder u zijn; Geen vreemden god moogt gij aanbidden!
10 I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt; open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Ik ben Jahweh, uw God, die u uit Egypte heb geleid, En die uw mond heb gevuld, toen hij wijd was geopend!
11 But My people hearkened not to My voice; and Israel would none of Me.
Maar mijn volk luisterde niet naar mijn stem, En Israël gehoorzaamde niet;
12 So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.
Toen gaf ik ze prijs aan verstoktheid des harten, En iedereen ging zijn eigen weg.
13 Oh that My people would hearken unto Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!
Ach, had mijn volk naar Mij toch geluisterd, En Israël mijn wegen bewandeld!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries.
Hoe snel had Ik dan zijn vijand vernederd, Mijn hand op zijn verdrukkers doen komen;
15 The haters of the LORD should dwindle away before Him; and their punishment should endure for ever.
Al hadden Jahweh’s haters Hem nog zo gevleid, Hun tijd was voor eeuwig gekomen!
16 They should also be fed with the fat of wheat; and with honey out of the rock would I satisfy thee.'
Maar u zou Ik spijzen met de bloem van de tarwe, En verzadigen met honing uit de rotsen.
