< Psalms 56 >
1 For the Leader; upon Jonath-elem-rehokim. A Psalm of David; Michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be gracious unto me, O God, for man would swallow me up; all the day he fighting oppresseth me.
In finem, Pro populo, qui a Sanctis longe factus est, David in tituli inscriptionem, cum tenuerunt eum Allophyli in Geth.
2 They that lie in wait for me would swallow me up all the day; for they are many that fight against me, O Most High,
Miserere mei Deus, quoniam conculcavit me homo: tota die impugnans tribulavit me.
3 In the day that I am afraid, I will put my trust in Thee.
Conculcaverunt me inimici mei tota die: quoniam multi bellantes adversum me.
4 In God — I will praise His word — in God do I trust, I will not be afraid; what can flesh do unto me?
Ab altitudine diei timebo: ego vero in te sperabo.
5 All the day they trouble mine affairs; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
In Deo laudabo sermones meos, in Deo speravi: non timebo quid faciat mihi caro.
6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps; according as they have waited for my soul.
Tota die verba mea execrabantur: adversum me omnes cogitationes eorum, in malum.
7 Because of iniquity cast them out; in anger bring down the peoples, O God.
Inhabitabunt et abscondent: ipsi calcaneum meum observabunt. Sicut sustinuerunt animam meam,
8 Thou has counted my wanderings; put Thou my tears into Thy bottle; are they not in Thy book?
pro nihilo salvos facies illos: in ira populos confringes.
9 Then shall mine enemies turn back in the day that I call; this I know, that God is for me.
Deus, vitam meam annunciavi tibi: posuisti lacrymas meas in conspectu tuo, Sicut et in promissione tua:
10 In God — I will praise His word — in the LORD — I will praise His word —
tunc convertentur inimici mei retrorsum: In quacumque die invocavero te: ecce cognovi quoniam Deus meus es.
11 In God do I trust, I will not be afraid; what can man do unto me?
In Deo laudabo verbum, in Domino laudabo sermonem: in Deo speravi, non timebo quid faciat mihi homo.
12 Thy vows are upon me, O God; I will render thank-offerings unto Thee.
In me sunt Deus vota tua, quæ reddam, laudationes tibi.
13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death; hast Thou not delivered my feet from stumbling? that I may walk before God in the light of the living.
Quoniam eripuisti animam meam de morte, et pedes meos de lapsu: ut placeam coram Deo in lumine viventium.
