Psalms 56

1 For the Leader; upon Jonath-elem-rehokim. A Psalm of David; Michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be gracious unto me, O God, for man would swallow me up; all the day he fighting oppresseth me.

Dem Musikmeister, nach (der Singweise = Melodie) »Die stumme Taube der Ferne«; ein Lied von David, als die Philister ihn in Gath festgenommen hatten. Sei mir gnädig, o Gott, denn Menschen stellen mir nach!

2 They that lie in wait for me would swallow me up all the day; for they are many that fight against me, O Most High,

Meine Feinde stellen mir immerfort nach, ja viele sind’s, die in Hochmut mich befehden.

3 In the day that I am afraid, I will put my trust in Thee.

In Zeiten, da mir angst ist, vertrau ich auf dich!

4 In God — I will praise His word — in God do I trust, I will not be afraid; what can flesh do unto me?

Mit Gottes Hilfe werde sein Wort ich rühmen. Auf Gott vertrau’ ich, fürchte mich nicht; was können Menschen mir antun?

5 All the day they trouble mine affairs; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

Allzeit suchen sie meiner Sache zu schaden; gegen mich ist all ihr Sinnen gerichtet auf Böses.

6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps; according as they have waited for my soul.

Sie rotten sich zusammen, lauern auf meine Schritte, dieweil sie nach dem Leben mir trachten.

7 Because of iniquity cast them out; in anger bring down the peoples, O God.

Ob der Bosheit zahle ihnen heim, im Zorn laß die Völker niedersinken, o Gott!

8 Thou has counted my wanderings; put Thou my tears into Thy bottle; are they not in Thy book?

Meines Elends Tage hast du gezählt, meine Tränen in deinem Krüglein gesammelt; ja gewiß, sie stehen in deinem Buche verzeichnet.

9 Then shall mine enemies turn back in the day that I call; this I know, that God is for me.

So werden denn meine Feinde weichen, sobald (zu Gott) ich rufe; dessen bin ich gewiß, daß Gott mir beisteht.

10 In God — I will praise His word — in the LORD — I will praise His word —

Mit Gottes Hilfe werde sein Wort ich rühmen, mit Hilfe des HERRN werde sein Wort ich rühmen.

11 In God do I trust, I will not be afraid; what can man do unto me?

Auf Gott vertrau’ ich, fürchte mich nicht: was können Menschen mir antun?

12 Thy vows are upon me, O God; I will render thank-offerings unto Thee.

Mir obliegt es, dir, Gott, zu erfüllen meine Gelübde: Dankopfer ich will dir entrichten;

13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death; hast Thou not delivered my feet from stumbling? that I may walk before God in the light of the living.

denn du hast meine Seele vom Tode errettet, ja, meine Füße vom Straucheln, daß ich wandeln soll vor Gottes Angesicht im Lichte der Lebenden.
