Psalms 49
1 For the Leader; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,
Pour le chef musicien. Un psaume par les fils de Korah. Écoutez ceci, vous tous, peuples. Écoutez, vous tous, habitants du monde,
2 Both low and high, rich and poor together.
à la fois basse et haute, les riches et les pauvres ensemble.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
Ma bouche prononcera des paroles de sagesse. Mon cœur exprimera la compréhension.
4 I will incline mine ear to a parable; I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
Je prêterai l'oreille à un proverbe. Je vais résoudre mon énigme sur la harpe.
5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my supplanters compasseth me about,
Pourquoi aurais-je peur dans les jours de malheur? quand l'iniquité m'entoure à mes talons?
6 Of them that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches?
Ceux qui se confient en leurs richesses, et se vantent de la multitude de leurs richesses...
7 No man can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him —
aucun d'entre eux ne peut en aucune façon racheter son frère, ni donner à Dieu une rançon pour lui.
8 For too costly is the redemption of their soul, and must be let alone for ever —
Car la rédemption de leur vie est coûteuse, aucun paiement n'est jamais suffisant,
9 That he should still live alway, that he should not see the pit.
pour qu'il vive à jamais, pour qu'il ne voie pas la corruption.
10 For he seeth that wise men die, the fool and the brutish together perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Car il voit que les sages meurent; de même, les fous et les insensés périssent, et laisser leur richesse à d'autres.
11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling-places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Leur pensée intérieure est que leurs maisons dureront toujours, et leurs demeures pour toutes les générations. Ils donnent leur nom à leurs terres.
12 But man abideth not in honour; he is like the beasts that perish.
Mais l'homme, malgré ses richesses, ne résiste pas. Il est comme les animaux qui périssent.
13 This is the way of them that are foolish, and of those who after them approve their sayings. (Selah)
Tel est le destin de ceux qui sont insensés, et de ceux qui approuvent leurs paroles. (Selah)
14 Like sheep they are appointed for the nether-world; death shall be their shepherd; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their form shall be for the nether-world to wear away, that there be no habitation for it. (Sheol h7585)
Ils sont désignés comme un troupeau pour le séjour des morts. La mort sera leur berger. Le matin, les hommes intègres domineront sur eux. Leur beauté se décompose dans le séjour des morts, loin de leur manoir. (Sheol h7585)
15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the nether-world; for He shall receive me. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
Mais Dieu rachètera mon âme de la puissance du séjour des morts, car il me recevra. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
16 Be not thou afraid when one waxeth rich, when the wealth of his house is increased;
N'ayez pas peur quand un homme s'enrichit, quand la gloire de sa maison sera accrue;
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; his wealth shall not descend after him.
car lorsqu'il mourra, il n'emportera rien. Sa gloire ne descendra pas après lui.
18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: 'Men will praise thee, when thou shalt do well to thyself';
Bien que de son vivant, il ait béni son âme... et les hommes te louent quand tu fais du bien à toi-même...
19 It shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see the light.
il ira à la génération de ses pères. Ils ne verront jamais la lumière.
20 Man that is in honour understandeth not; he is like the beasts that perish.
Un homme qui a des richesses sans comprendre, est comme les animaux qui périssent.
