Psalms 40
1 For the Leader. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
Potrpežljivo sem čakal na Gospoda in on se je nagnil k meni ter slišal moj klic.
2 He brought me up also out of the tumultuous pit, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock, He established my goings.
Privedel me je tudi iz strašne jame, ven iz blatnega ila in moja stopala je postavil na skalo in utrdil moje korake.
3 And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many shall see, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
V moja usta je položil novo pesem, celó hvalo našemu Bogu. Mnogi bodo to videli ter se bali in bodo zaupali v Gospoda.
4 Happy is the man that hath made the LORD his trust, and hath not turned unto the arrogant, nor unto such as fall away treacherously.
Blagoslovljen je tisti človek, ki svoje trdno upanje postavlja [v] Gospoda in ne spoštuje ponosnega niti takšnega, ki odvrača k lažem.
5 Many things hast Thou done, O LORD my God, even Thy wonderful works, and Thy thoughts toward us; there is none to be compared unto Thee! If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be told.
Mnoga, oh Gospod, moj Bog, so tvoja čudovita dela, ki si jih storil in tvoje misli, ki so do nas, ne morejo biti po vrsti izračunane k tebi. Če želim oznaniti in govoriti o njih, jih je več, kakor jih je mogoče prešteti.
6 Sacrifice and meal-offering Thou hast no delight in; mine ears hast Thou opened; burnt-offering and sin-offering hast Thou not required.
Klavne daritve in darovanja si nisi zaželel, odprl si mi ušesa. Žgalne daritve in daritve za greh nisi zahteval.
7 Then said I: 'Lo, I am come with the roll of a book which is prescribed for me;
Potem sem rekel: »Glej! Prihajam. V zvezku knjige je zapisano o meni,
8 I delight to do Thy will, O my God; yea, Thy law is in my inmost parts.'
veselim se, da izpolnim tvojo voljo, oh moj Bog. Da, tvoja postava je znotraj mojega srca.
9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation, lo, I did not refrain my lips; O LORD, Thou knowest.
Oznanjal sem pravičnost v veliki skupnosti. Glej, svojih ustnic nisem zadrževal, oh Gospod, ti veš.
10 I have not hid Thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation; I have not concealed Thy mercy and Thy truth from the great congregation.
Tvoje pravičnosti nisem skrival v svojem srcu; oznanjal sem tvojo zvestobo in tvojo rešitev duše. Tvoje ljubeče skrbnosti in tvoje resnice nisem prikrival pred veliko skupnostjo.
11 Thou, O LORD, wilt not withhold Thy compassions from me; let Thy mercy and Thy truth continually preserve me.
Svojih nežnih usmiljenj ne zadržuj pred menoj, oh Gospod. Naj me nenehno varujeta tvoja ljubeča skrbnost in tvoja resnica.
12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about, mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart hath failed me.
Kajti obkrožila so me brezštevilna zla, polastile so se me moje krivičnosti, tako da nisem zmožen pogledati kvišku. Več jih je kakor las moje glave, zato mi peša srce.
13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me.
Bodi vesel, oh Gospod, da me osvobodiš. Oh Gospod, podvizaj se, da mi pomagaš.
14 Let them be ashamed and abashed together that seek after my soul to sweep it away; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that delight in my hurt.
Naj bodo hkrati osramočeni in zbegani, ki strežejo po moji duši, da jo uničijo. Naj bodo odgnani nazaj in osramočeni tisti, ki mi želijo zlo.
15 Let them be appalled by reason of their shame that say unto me: 'Aha, aha.'
Naj bodo zapuščeni, za nagrado njihove sramote, ki mi pravijo: ›Aha, aha.‹
16 Let all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee; let such as love Thy salvation say continually: 'The LORD be magnified.'
Naj se vsi tisti, ki te iščejo, razveselijo in bodo veseli v tebi. Naj tisti, ki ljubijo tvojo rešitev duše, nenehno govorijo: ›Poveličan bodi, Gospod.‹
17 But, as for me, that am poor and needy, the Lord will account it unto me; Thou art my help and my deliverer; O my God, tarry not.
Toda jaz sem ubog in pomoči potreben, vendarle Gospod misli name. Ti si moja pomoč in moj osvoboditelj; ne mudi se, oh moj Bog.«
