< Proverbs 6 >
1 My son, if thou art become surety for thy neighbour, if thou hast struck thy hands for a stranger —
Me ba, sɛ woadi akagyinamu ama ɔyɔnko bi, sɛ wode wo biribi asi awowa ama obi,
2 Thou art snared by the words of thy mouth, thou art caught by the words of thy mouth —
sɛ deɛ wokaeɛ ayi ka ama wo na sɛ wʼano asɛm afidie ayi wo a,
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, seeing thou art come into the hand of thy neighbour; go, humble thyself, and urge thy neighbour.
ɛnneɛ yɛ yei, me ba, na fa tete wo ho, sɛ ɔyɔnko nsa aka woɔ no nti: fa ahobrɛaseɛ kɔ nʼanim; na kɔ so pa wo yɔnko no kyɛw!
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
Mma wʼani nkum na nntɔ nko.
5 Deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Gye wo ho, sɛdeɛ ɔforoteɛ dwane firi ɔbɔmmɔfoɔ nsam anaa sɛdeɛ anomaa dwane firi fidisumfoɔ afidie mu.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise;
Ɔkwadwofoɔ, kɔ atɛtea nkyɛn; hwɛ nʼakwan, na hunu nyansa!
7 Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
Ɔnni ɔsahene, ɔnni ɔhwɛfoɔ anaa sodifoɔ bi,
8 Provideth her bread in the summer, and gatherest her food in the harvest.
nanso, ɔde aduane sie wɔ ahuhuro ɛberɛ mu ɔboaboa nnuane ano wɔ twaberɛ.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Wo, ɔkwadwofoɔ, wobɛda akɔsi da bɛn? Wɔbɛnyane ɛberɛ bɛn?
10 'Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep' —
Nna kakra, nkotɔ kakra, nsa a woabobɔ de rehome kakra,
11 So shall thy poverty come as a runner, and thy want as an armed man.
ɛbɛma ohia aba wo so sɛ ɔkwanmukafoɔ na ahokyere ato ahyɛ wo so sɛ deɛ ɔkura tuo.
12 A base person, a man of iniquity, is he that walketh with a froward mouth;
Onipa teta ne ohuhuni a ɔde atorɔ kyini,
13 That winketh with his eyes, that scrapeth with his feet, that pointeth with his fingers;
deɛ ɔbu nʼani, na ɔde ne nan yɛ nsɛnkyerɛnneɛ na ɔde ne nsateaa kyerɛkyerɛ adeɛ,
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth evil continually; he soweth discord.
deɛ ɔde nʼakoma mu nnaadaa bɔ ɛpɔ bɔne, na ɔde mpaapaemu ba ɛberɛ biara.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; on a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.
Ɛno enti amanehunu bɛba ne so prɛko pɛ; wɔbɛsɛe no mpofirim, a wɔrenya ano aduro.
16 There are six things which the LORD hateth, yea, seven which are an abomination unto Him:
Nneɛma nsia na Awurade mpɛ, nneɛma nson na ɛyɛ nʼakyiwadeɛ:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
ani a ɛtra ntɔn, atorɔ tɛkrɛma, nsa a ɛka mogya a ɛdi bem guo,
18 A heart that deviseth wicked thoughts, feet that are swift in running to evil;
akoma a ɛdwene amumuyɛ ho, nan a ɛtutu mmirika kɔyɛ bɔne,
19 A false witness that breatheth out lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Ɔdansekurumni a ɔdi atorɔ ne onipa a ɔde mpaapaemu ba anuanom mu.
20 My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
Me ba, tie wʼagya ahyɛdeɛ na nnyaa wo maame nkyerɛkyerɛ mu.
21 Bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck.
Fa kyekyere wʼakoma ho daa; na fa kyekyere wɔ kɔn mu.
22 When thou walkest, it shall lead thee, when thou liest down, it shall watch over thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
Wonante a, ɛbɛkyerɛ wo ɛkwan; sɛ woda a, ɛbɛwɛn wo; sɛ wonyane a, ɛbɛkasa akyerɛ wo.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;
Na saa ahyɛdeɛ yi yɛ kanea; saa nkyerɛkyerɛ yi yɛ hann, na ahohyɛsoɔ ntenesoɔ yi yɛ nkwa kwan,
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the smoothness of the alien tongue.
ɛtwe wo firi ɔbaa a ɔnni suban pa no ho, firi ɔbaawarefoɔ sansani tɛkrɛmadɛ ho.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her captivate thee with her eyelids.
Mma wo kɔn nnɔ nʼahoɔfɛ mma nʼani akyideda no ntwetwe wo,
26 For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a loaf of bread, but the adulteress hunteth for the precious life.
ɛfiri sɛ, odwamanfoɔ de animguaseɛ bɛbrɛ wo, na obi yere gyegye wo kɔ owuo mu.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
Obi bɛtumi asɔ ogya agu ne srɛ so a ɛnhye nʼatadeɛ anaa?
28 Or can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
Obi bɛtumi anante gyasramma so a mpumpunnya mmobɔ ne nan ho anaa?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not go unpunished.
Saa na ɔbarima a ɔne ɔbarima foforɔ yere da no teɛ obiara a ɔde ne nsa bɛka noɔ no remfa ne ho nni da.
30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
Nnipa mmu ɔkorɔmfoɔ a wakɔwia adeɛ animtiaa sɛ ɛkɔm de no na ɔde rekɔdwodwo ano enti.
31 But if he be found, he must restore sevenfold, he must give all the substance of his house.
Mmom sɛ wɔkyere no a, ɛsɛ sɛ ɔtua ka mmɔho nson; sɛ ɛhia sɛ wɔtɔn ne fie agyapadeɛ nyinaa mpo a, ɛsɛ sɛ wɔtɔn.
32 He that committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; he doeth it that would destroy his own soul.
Ɔbarima a ɔsɛe awadeɛ no nni adwene; obiara a ɔyɛ saa no sɛe ne ho.
33 Wounds and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
Ɔboro ne animguaseɛ na ɔbɛnya, na nʼahohora rempepa da.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
Ninkunutweɛ hwanyane okunu abufuo na sɛ ɔtɔ were a, ahummɔborɔ biara nni mu.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
Ɔrennye mpata biara; na ɔbɛpo adanmudeɛ, sɛ ɛso sɛ ɛdeɛn mpo a.
