Proverbs 30
1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh; the burden. The man saith unto Ithiel, unto Ithiel and Ucal:
Le parole di Agur, figliuolo d'Iache; il sermone profetico che quell'uomo pronunziò ad Itiel; ad Itiel, e ad Ucal.
2 Surely I am brutish, unlike a man, and have not the understanding of a man;
CERTO io [son] troppo idiota, per esser gran personaggio; E non ho pur l'intendimento d'un uomo volgare;
3 And I have not learned wisdom, that I should have the knowledge of the Holy One.
E non ho imparata sapienza; Ma io so la scienza de' santi.
4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in his garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest?
Chi è salito in cielo, e [n'è] disceso? Chi ha raccolto il vento nelle sue pugna? Chi ha serrate le acque nella sua vesta? Chi ha posti tutti i confini della terra? Quale [è] il suo nome, o quale [è] il nome del suo figliuolo, Se tu [il] sai?
5 Every word of God is tried; He is a shield unto them that take refuge in Him.
Ogni parola di Dio [è] purgata col fuoco; Egli [è] scudo a coloro che sperano in lui.
6 Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Non aggiungere alle sue parole; Che talora egli non ti arguisca, e che tu non sii trovato bugiardo.
7 Two things have I asked of Thee; deny me them not before I die:
Io ti ho chieste due cose, [o Dio]; Non rifiutarme[le] avanti che io muoia:
8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with mine allotted bread;
Allontana da me vanità e parole di bugia; Non mandarmi povertà, nè ricchezze; Cibami del mio pane quotidiano;
9 Lest I be full, and deny, and say: 'Who is the LORD?' Or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.
Che talora io non mi satolli, [e ti] rinneghi, E dica: Chi [è] il Signore? Che talora altresì io non impoverisca, e rubi, Ed usi indegnamente il Nome dell'Iddio mio.
10 Slander not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
Non dir male del servo appo il suo padrone; Che talora egli non ti maledica, e tu ti renda colpevole.
11 There is a generation that curse their father, and do not bless their mother.
[Vi è] una generazione [d'uomini che] maledice suo padre; E non benedice sua madre.
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.
[Vi è] una generazione [d'uomini che] si reputa netta, E non è lavata della sua lordura.
13 There is a generation, Oh how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
[Vi è] una generazione [d'uomini] che ha gli occhi grandemente elevati, E le palpebre alzate.
14 There is a generation whose teeth are as swords, and their great teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
[Vi è] una generazione [d'uomini] i cui denti [sono] spade, Ed i mascellari coltelli, Per divorare i poveri d'in su la terra, Ed i bisognosi d'infra gli uomini.
15 The horseleech hath two daughters: 'Give, give.' There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four that say not: 'Enough':
La mignatta ha due figliuole, [che dicono: ] Apporta, apporta. Queste tre cose non si saziano giammai; [Anzi queste] quattro non dicono [giammai: ] Basta!
16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not satisfied with water; and the fire that saith not: 'Enough.' (Sheol h7585)
Il sepolcro, la matrice sterile, La terra [che] non si sazia [giammai] d'acqua, E il fuoco, [che giammai] non dice: Basta! (Sheol h7585)
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young vultures shall eat it.
I corvi del torrente trarranno, E i figli dell'aquila mangeranno gli occhi Di chi beffa suo padre, E sprezza di ubbidire a sua madre.
18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
Queste tre cose mi sono occulte; [Anzi], io non conosco [queste] quattro:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a young woman.
La traccia dell'aquila nell'aria, La traccia del serpente sopra il sasso, La traccia della nave in mezzo del mare, La traccia dell'uomo nella giovane.
20 So is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith: 'I have done no wickedness.'
Tale [è] il procedere della donna adultera; Ella mangia, e si frega la bocca, E dice: Io non ho commessa alcuna iniquità.
21 For three things the earth doth quake, and for four it cannot endure:
Per tre cose la terra trema; Anzi per quattro, [ch]'ella non può comportare:
22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a churl when he is filled with food;
Per lo servo, quando regna; E [per] l'uomo stolto, quando è satollo di pane;
23 For an odious woman when she is married; and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
Per la [donna] odiosa, quando si marita; E [per] la serva, quando è erede della sua padrona.
24 There are four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
Queste quattro cose [son] delle più piccole della terra, E pur [son] savie, [e] molto avvedute:
25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;
Le formiche, [che sono] un popolo senza forze, E pure apparecchiano di state il lor cibo;
26 The rock-badgers are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the crags;
I conigli, [che sono] un popolo senza potenza, E pur fanno i lor ricetti nelle roccie;
27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
Le locuste, [che] non hanno re, E pure escono fuori tutte a stormo, divise per ischiere;
28 The spider thou canst take with the hands, yet is she in kings' palaces.
Il ramarro, [che] si aggrappa con le mani, Ed è ne' palazzi dei re.
29 There are three things which are stately in their march, yea, four which are stately in going:
Queste tre cose hanno un bel passo; Anzi queste quattro hanno una bella andatura:
30 The lion, which is mightiest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
Il leone, la più forte delle bestie, Che non si volge indietro per tema di alcuno;
31 The greyhound; the he-goat also; and the king, against whom there is no rising up.
Il gallo compresso di fianchi, e il becco, E il re, appresso al quale niuno [può] levare [il capo].
32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast planned devices, lay thy hand upon thy mouth.
Se tu hai fatto qualche follia, innalzandoti; Ovvero, se hai divisato alcun male, [mettiti] la mano in su la bocca.
33 For the churning of milk bringeth forth curd, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood; so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
Perciocchè, [come] chi rimena il latte [ne] fa uscir del burro; E chi stringe il naso, [ne] fa uscir del sangue; Così ancora chi preme l'ira [ne] fa uscir contesa.
