Proverbs 28
1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are secure as a young lion.
L'empio fugge anche se nessuno lo insegue, mentre il giusto è sicuro come un giovane leone.
2 For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof; but by a man of understanding and knowledge established order shall long continue.
Per i delitti di un paese molti sono i suoi tiranni, ma con un uomo intelligente e saggio l'ordine si mantiene.
3 A poor man that oppresseth the weak is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
Un uomo empio che opprime i miseri è una pioggia torrenziale che non porta pane.
4 They that forsake the law praise the wicked; but such as keep the law contend with them.
Quelli che violano la legge lodano l'empio, ma quanti osservano la legge gli muovono guerra.
5 Evil men understand not justice; but they that seek the LORD understand all things.
I malvagi non comprendono la giustizia, ma quelli che cercano il Signore comprendono tutto.
6 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
Meglio un povero dalla condotta integra che uno dai costumi perversi, anche se ricco.
7 A wise son observeth the teaching; but he that is a companion of gluttonous men shameth his father.
Chi osserva la legge è un figlio intelligente, chi frequenta i crapuloni disonora suo padre.
8 He that augmenteth his substance by interest and increase, gathereth it for him that is gracious to the poor.
Chi accresce il patrimonio con l'usura e l'interesse, lo accumula per chi ha pietà dei miseri.
9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
Chi volge altrove l'orecchio per non ascoltare la legge, anche la sua preghiera è in abominio.
10 Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit; but the whole-hearted shall inherit good.
Chi fa traviare gli uomini retti per una cattiva strada, cadrà egli stesso nella fossa, mentre gli integri possederanno fortune.
11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him through.
Il ricco si crede saggio, ma il povero intelligente lo scruta bene.
12 When the righteous exult, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men must be sought for.
Grande è la gioia quando trionfano i giusti, ma se prevalgono gli empi ognuno si nasconde.
13 He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.
Chi nasconde le proprie colpe non avrà successo; chi le confessa e cessa di farle troverà indulgenza.
14 Happy is the man that feareth alway; but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into evil.
Beato l'uomo che teme sempre, chi indurisce il cuore cadrà nel male.
15 As a roaring lion, and a ravenous bear; so is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
Leone ruggente e orso affamato, tale è il malvagio che domina su un popolo povero.
16 The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor; but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
Un principe privo di senno moltiplica le vessazioni, ma chi odia la rapina prolungherà i suoi giorni.
17 A man that is laden with the blood of any person shall hasten his steps unto the pit; none will support him.
Un uomo perseguitato per omicidio fuggirà fino alla tomba: nessuno lo soccorre.
18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved; but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
Chi procede con rettitudine sarà salvato, chi va per vie tortuose cadrà ad un tratto.
19 He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things shall have poverty enough.
Chi lavora la sua terra si sazierà di pane, chi insegue chimere si sazierà di miseria.
20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be unpunished.
L'uomo leale sarà colmo di benedizioni, chi si arricchisce in fretta non sarà esente da colpa.
21 To have respect of persons is not good; for a man will transgress for a piece of bread.
Non è bene essere parziali, per un pezzo di pane si pecca.
22 He that hath an evil eye hasteneth after riches, and knoweth not that want shall come upon him.
L'uomo dall'occhio cupido è impaziente di arricchire e non pensa che gli piomberà addosso la miseria.
23 He that rebuketh a man shall in the end find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
Chi corregge un altro troverà in fine più favore di chi ha una lingua adulatrice.
24 Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith: 'It is no transgression', the same is the companion of a destroyer.
Chi deruba il padre o la madre e dice: «Non è peccato», è compagno dell'assassino.
25 He that is of a greedy spirit stirreth up strife; but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be abundantly gratified.
L'uomo avido suscita litigi, ma chi confida nel Signore avrà successo.
26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall escape.
Chi confida nel suo senno è uno stolto, chi si comporta con saggezza sarà salvato.
27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
Per chi dà al povero non c'è indigenza, ma chi chiude gli occhi avrà grandi maledizioni.
28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.
Se prevalgono gli empi, tutti si nascondono, se essi periscono, sono potenti i giusti.
