Proverbs 27
1 Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Ne dicsekedjél a holnapi nappal; mert nem tudod, mit hoz a nap tereád.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
Dicsérjen meg téged más, és ne a te szájad; az idegen, és ne a te ajkaid.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than they both.
Nehézség van a kőben, és teher a fövényben; de a bolondnak haragja nehezebb mind a kettőnél.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
A búsulásban kegyetlenség van, és a haragban áradás; de ki állhatna meg az irígység előtt?
5 Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
Jobb a nyilvánvaló dorgálás a titkos szeretetnél.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are importunate.
Jószándékból valók a barátságos embertől vett sebek; és temérdek a gyűlölőnek csókja.
7 The full soul loatheth a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
A jóllakott ember még a lépesmézet is megtapodja; de az éhes embernek minden keserű édes.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
Mint a madárka, ki elbujdosott fészkétől, olyan az ember, a ki elbujdosott az ő lakóhelyétől.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
Mint a kenet és jó illat megvídámítja a szívet: úgy az ő barátjának édes szavai is, melyek lelke tanácsából valók.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity; better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
A te barátodat, és a te atyádnak barátját el ne hagyd, és a te atyádfiának házába be ne menj nyomorúságodnak idején. Jobb a közel való szomszéd a messze való atyafinál.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that taunteth me.
Légy bölcs fiam, és vídámítsd meg az én szívemet; hogy megfelelhessek annak, a ki engem ócsárol.
12 A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the thoughtless pass on, and are punished.
Az eszes meglátja a bajt, elrejti magát; az esztelenek neki mennek, kárát vallják.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge that is surety for an alien woman.
Vedd el a ruháját, mert kezes lett másért, és az idegenért zálogold meg.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
A ki nagy hangon áldja az ő barátját, reggel jó idején felkelvén; átokul tulajdoníttatik néki.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike;
A sebes záporeső idején való szüntelen csepegés, és a morgó asszonyember hasonlók.
16 He that would hide her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand betrayeth itself.
Valaki el akarja azt rejteni, szelet rejt el, és az ő jobbja olajjal találkozik.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Miképen egyik vassal a másikat élesítik, a képen az ember élesíti az ő barátjának orczáját.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
Mint a ki őrzi a fügét, eszik annak gyümölcséből, úgy a ki az ő urára vigyáz, tiszteltetik.
19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
Mint a vízben egyik orcza a másikat megmutatja, úgy egyik embernek szíve a másikat.
20 The nether-world and Destruction are never satiated; so the eyes of man are never satiated. (Sheol h7585)
Mint a sír és a pokol meg nem elégednek, úgy az embernek szemei meg nem elégednek. (Sheol h7585)
21 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tried by his praise.
Mint az ezüst a tégelyben, és az arany a kemenczében próbáltatik meg, úgy az ember az ő híre-neve szerint.
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among groats, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
Ha megtörnéd is a bolondot mozsárban mozsártörővel a megtört gabona között, nem távoznék el ő tőle az ő bolondsága.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds;
Szorgalmasan megismerd a te juhaid külsejét, gondolj a nyájakra.
24 For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?
Mert nem örökkévaló a gazdagság, és vajjon a korona nemzetségről nemzetségre lesz-é?
25 When the hay is mown, and the tender grass showeth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in;
Mikor levágatott a szénafű, és megtetszett a sarjú, és begyűjtettek a hegyekről a fűvek:
26 The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field.
Vannak juhaid a te ruházatodra, és kecskebakok mezőnek árául,
27 And there will be goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
És elég kecsketej a te ételedre, a te házadnépének ételére, és szolgálóleányaidnak ételül.
