Proverbs 27
1 Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Nechlub se dnem zítřejším, nebo nevíš, coť ten den přinese.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
Nechať tě chválí jiní, a ne ústa tvá, cizí, a ne rtové tvoji.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than they both.
Tíž má kamen, a váhu písek, ale hněv blázna těžší jest nad to obé.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
Ukrutnátě věc hněv a prudká prchlivost, ale kdo ostojí před závistí?
5 Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
Lepší jest domlouvání zjevné, než milování tajné.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are importunate.
Bezpečnější rány od přítele, než lahodná líbání nenávidícího.
7 The full soul loatheth a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
Duše sytá pohrdá i medem, ale duši lačné každá hořkost sladká.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
Jako pták zaletuje od hnízda svého, tak muž odchází od místa svého.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
Mast a kadění obveseluje srdce; tak sladkost přítele víc než rada vlastní.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity; better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
Přítele svého a přítele otce svého neopouštěj, a do domu bratra svého nechoď v čas bídy své; lepšíť jest soused blízký, než bratr daleký.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that taunteth me.
Buď moudrý, synu můj, a obvesel srdce mé, ať mám co odpovědíti tomu, kdož mi utrhá.
12 A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the thoughtless pass on, and are punished.
Opatrný vida zlé, vyhne se, ale hloupí předce jdouce, těžkosti docházejí.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge that is surety for an alien woman.
Vezmi roucho toho, kterýž slíbil za cizího, a od toho, kdo za cizozemku slíbil, základ jeho.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
Tomu, kdož dobrořečí příteli svému hlasem velikým, ráno vstávaje, za zlořečení počteno bude.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike;
Kapání ustavičné v čas přívalu, a žena svárlivá rovní jsou sobě;
16 He that would hide her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand betrayeth itself.
Kdož ji schovává, schovává vítr, a jako mast v pravici voněti bude.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Železo železem se ostří; tak muž zostřuje tvář přítele svého.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
Kdo ostříhá fíku, jídá ovoce jeho; tak kdo ostříhá pána svého, poctěn bude.
19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
Jakož u vodě tvář proti tváři se ukazuje, tak srdce člověka člověku.
20 The nether-world and Destruction are never satiated; so the eyes of man are never satiated. (Sheol h7585)
Propast a zahynutí nebývají nasyceni, tak oči člověka nasytiti se nemohou. (Sheol h7585)
21 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tried by his praise.
Teglík stříbra a pec zlata zkušuje, tak člověka pověst chvály jeho.
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among groats, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
Bys blázna i v stupě mezi krupami píchem zopíchal, neodejde od něho bláznovství jeho.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds;
Pilně přihlídej k dobytku svému, pečuj o stáda svá.
24 For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?
Nebo ne na věky trvá bohatství, ani koruna do pronárodu.
25 When the hay is mown, and the tender grass showeth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in;
Když zroste tráva, a ukazuje se bylina, tehdáž ať se shromažďuje seno s hor.
26 The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field.
Beránkové budou k oděvu tvému, a záplata pole kozelci.
27 And there will be goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
Nadto dostatek mléka kozího ku pokrmu tvému, ku pokrmu domu tvého, a živnosti děvek tvých.
