Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
Como a neve no verão, e como a chuva na sega, assim não convém ao louco a honra.
2 As the wandering sparrow, as the flying swallow, so the curse that is causeless shall come home.
Como ao pássaro o vaguear, como à andorinha o voar, assim a maldição sem causa não virá.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
O açoite para o cavalo, o freio para o jumento, e a vara para as costas dos tolos.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
Não respondas ao tolo segundo a sua estultícia; para que também te não faças semelhante a ele.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
Responde ao tolo segundo a sua estultícia; para que não seja sábio aos seus olhos.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off his own feet, and drinketh damage.
Os pés corta, e o dano bebe, quem manda mensagens pela mão dum tolo.
7 The legs hang limp from the lame; so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Como as pernas do coxo, que pendem frouxas, assim é o provérbio na boca dos tolos.
8 As a small stone in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
Como o que ata a pedra preciosa na funda, assim é aquele que dá honra ao tolo.
9 As a thorn that cometh into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Como o espinho que entra na mão do bêbado, assim é o provérbio na boca dos tolos.
10 A master performeth all things; but he that stoppeth a fool is as one that stoppeth a flood.
Os grandes molestam a todos, e alugam os tolos e transgressores.
11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is a fool that repeateth his folly.
Como o cão que torna ao seu vômito, assim é o tolo que reitera a sua estultícia.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own eyes? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Tens visto a um homem que é sábio a seus próprios olhos? maior esperança há do tolo do que dele.
13 The sluggard saith: 'There is a lion in the way; yea, a lion is in the streets.'
Diz o preguiçoso: Um leão está no caminho; um leão está nas ruas
14 The door is turning upon its hinges, and the sluggard is still upon his bed.
Como a porta se revolve nos seus gonzos, assim o preguiçoso na sua cama.
15 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it back to his mouth.
O preguiçoso esconde a sua mão no seio: enfada-se de torna-la à sua boca.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men that give wise answer.
Mais sábio é o preguiçoso a seus olhos do que sete homens que bem respondem.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife not his own, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
O que, passando, se entremete em pleito alheio é como aquele que toma um cão pelas orelhas.
18 As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death;
Como o louco que lança de si faiscas, flechas, e mortandades,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith: 'Am not I in sport?'
Assim é o homem que engana o seu próximo, e diz: Não o fiz eu por brincar?
20 Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
Sem lenha, o fogo se apagará; e, não havendo murmurador, cessará a contenda.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
Como o carvão é para as brazas, e a lenha para o fogo, assim é o homem contencioso para acender rixas.
22 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
As palavras do murmurador são como as palavras do espancado, e elas descem ao intimo do ventre.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
Como o caco coberto de escórias de prata, assim são os lábios ardentes com o coração maligno.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him.
Aquele que aborrece se contrafaz pelos seus beiços, mas no seu interior encobre o engano.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart.
Quando te suplicar com a sua voz, não te fies nele, porque sete abominações há no seu coração.
26 Though his hatred be concealed with deceit, his wickedness shall be revealed before the congregation.
Cujo ódio se encobre com engano; a sua malícia se descobrirá na congregação.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
O que cava uma cova nela cairá; e o que revolve a pedra esta sobre ele tornará.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
A língua falsa aborrece aos que ela aflige, e a boca lubrica obra a ruína.
