Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well him that is before thee;
Cuando te asentares a comer con algún señor, considera bien lo que estuviere delante de ti:
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
Y pon cuchillo a tu garganta, si tienes grande apetito.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties; seeing they are deceitful food.
No codicies sus manjares delicados; porque es pan engañoso.
4 Weary not thyself to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.
No trabajes para ser rico: déjate de tu cuidado.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon it? it is gone; for riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.
¿Has de poner tus ojos en las riquezas, siendo ningunas? porque hacerse han alas, como alas de águila; y volarán al cielo.
6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties;
No comas pan de hombre de mal ojo; ni codicies sus manjares.
7 For as one that hath reckoned within himself, so is he: 'Eat and drink', saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Porque cual es su pensamiento en su alma, tal es él. Decirte ha, come, y bebe: mas su corazón no está contigo.
8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
¿Comiste tu parte? vomitarlo has; y perdiste tus suaves palabras.
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool; for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
No hables en las orejas del insensato; porque menospreciará la prudencia de tus razones.
10 Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless;
No traspases el término antiguo, ni entres en la heredad de los huérfanos:
11 For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause with thee.
Porque el defensor de ellos es el Fuerte: el cual juzgará la causa de ellos contra ti.
12 Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
Aplica al castigo tu corazón; y tus orejas a las hablas de sabiduría.
13 Withhold not correction from the child; for though thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
No detengas el castigo del muchacho; porque si le hirieres con vara, no morirá.
Tú le herirás con vara, y librarás su alma del infierno. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart will be glad, even mine;
Hijo mío, si sabio fuere tu corazón, también a mí se me alegrará el corazón.
16 Yea, my reins will rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
Mis entrañas también se alegrarán, cuando tus labios hablaren cosas rectas.
17 Let not thy heart envy sinners, but be in the fear of the LORD all the day;
No tenga envidia de los pecadores tu corazón: antes persevera en el temor de Jehová todo tiempo:
18 For surely there is a future; and thy hope shall not be cut off.
Porque ciertamente hay fin; y tu esperanza no será cortada.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.
Oye tú, hijo mío, y sé sabio, y endereza al camino tu corazón.
20 Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh;
No estés con los bebedores de vino, ni con los comedores de carne:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Porque el bebedor y el comilón empobrecerán; y el sueño hará vestir vestidos rotos.
22 Hearken unto thy father that begot thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
Oye a tu padre, a aquel que te engendró; y cuando tu madre envejeciere, no la menosprecies.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Compra la verdad, y no la vendas: la sabiduría, el enseñamiento, y la inteligencia.
24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.
Alegrando se alegrará el padre del justo; y el que engendró sabio, se regocijará con él.
25 Let thy father and thy mother be glad, and let her that bore thee rejoice.
Alégrese tu padre y tu madre, y regocíjese la que te engendró.
26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Dáme, hijo mío, tu corazón, y miren tus ojos por mis caminos:
27 For a harlot is a deep ditch; and an alien woman is a narrow pit.
Porque sima profunda es la ramera, y pozo angosto la extraña.
28 She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the faithless among men.
También ella, como robador, asecha; y multiplica entre los hombres los prevaricadores.
29 Who crieth: 'Woe'? who: 'Alas'? who hath contentions? who hath raving? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
¿Para quién será el ay? ¿para quién el ay? ¿para quién las rencillas? ¿para quién las quejas? ¿para quién las heridas de balde? ¿para quién los cardenales de los ojos?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.
Para los que se detienen junto al vino; para los que van buscando la mistura.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it glideth down smoothly;
No mires al vino como es bermejo, como resplandezca su color en el vaso, como se entra suavemente.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like a basilisk.
A su fin morderá como serpiente; y como basilisco dará dolor.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thy heart shall utter confused things.
Tus ojos mirarán las extrañas; y tu corazón hablará perversidades.
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
Y serás como el que yace en medio de la mar; y como el que yace en cabo del mastelero.
35 'They have struck me, and I felt it not, they have beaten me, and I knew it not; when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.'
Y dirás hiriéronme, mas no me dolió: azotáronme, mas no lo sentí: cuando despertaré, aun lo tornaré a buscar.
