Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well him that is before thee;
੧ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹਾਕਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਣ ਬੈਠੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੋਚ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕੀ ਹੈ।
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
੨ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪੇਟੂ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਛੁਰੀ ਰੱਖ!
3 Be not desirous of his dainties; seeing they are deceitful food.
੩ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਦਾ ਲੋਭ ਨਾ ਕਰੀਂ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਧੋਖੇ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਹੈ।
4 Weary not thyself to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.
੪ਧਨਵਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਖੇਚਲ ਨਾ ਕਰ, ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon it? it is gone; for riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.
੫ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਚੀਜ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਲਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਜੋ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ? ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਖੰਭ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਕਾਬ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵੱਲ ਉੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties;
੬ਤੂੰ ਬਦ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਨਾ ਖਾਹ, ਨਾ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਦਾ ਲੋਭ ਕਰ,
7 For as one that hath reckoned within himself, so is he: 'Eat and drink', saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
੭ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹਨ ਤਿਹਾ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੈ “ਖਾਹ, ਪੀ” ਪਰ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਵੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
੮ਜੋ ਗਰਾਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਖਾਧੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਗਲ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਮਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਆ ਬੈਠੇਂਗਾ।
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool; for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
੯ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਨਾ ਬੋਲ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਬੋਲ ਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਹੀ ਜਾਣੇਗਾ।
10 Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless;
੧੦ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਬੰਨਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਰਕਾ, ਅਤੇ ਯਤੀਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਵੜ,
11 For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause with thee.
੧੧ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਛੁਡਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਓਹੋ ਲੜੇਗਾ।
12 Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
੧੨ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵੱਲ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਲਾ।
13 Withhold not correction from the child; for though thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
੧੩ਬਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਤਾੜਨ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਨਾ ਰੁੱਕ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੋਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨਾ ਮਰੇਗਾ।
੧੪ਤੂੰ ਸੋਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾਲੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ। (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart will be glad, even mine;
੧੫ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਜੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰਾ ਵੀ!
16 Yea, my reins will rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
੧੬ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਿੱਕਲਣਗੀਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਿਲ ਅਨੰਦਿਤ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
17 Let not thy heart envy sinners, but be in the fear of the LORD all the day;
੧੭ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਕੁੜ੍ਹੇ, ਸਗੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਭਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਭੈਅ ਮੰਨ,
18 For surely there is a future; and thy hope shall not be cut off.
੧੮ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਲ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਨਾ ਟੁੱਟੇਗੀ।
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.
੧੯ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲਾ।
20 Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh;
੨੦ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾ ਰਲ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪੇਟੂ ਕਬਾਬੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ,
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
੨੧ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੇਟੂ ਗਰੀਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਨੀਂਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੀਰਾਂ ਪਹਿਨਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
22 Hearken unto thy father that begot thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
੨੨ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਉ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈਂ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਢੇਪੇ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੁੱਛ ਨਾ ਜਾਣ।
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
੨੩ਸੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਲ ਲੈ, ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਚੀਂ ਨਾ, ਨਾਲੇ ਬੁੱਧ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ।
24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.
੨੪ਧਰਮੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਉ ਅੱਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹ ਦੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜੰਮੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
25 Let thy father and thy mother be glad, and let her that bore thee rejoice.
੨੫ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਪੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੋਣ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ!
26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
੨੬ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਰਹਿਣ।
27 For a harlot is a deep ditch; and an alien woman is a narrow pit.
੨੭ਵੇਸਵਾ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਟੋਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਓਪਰੀ ਔਰਤ ਇੱਕ ਭੀੜਾ ਖੂਹ ਹੈ।
28 She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the faithless among men.
੨੮ਉਹ ਡਾਕੂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਘਾਤ ਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਧਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
29 Who crieth: 'Woe'? who: 'Alas'? who hath contentions? who hath raving? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
੨੯ਕੌਣ ਹਾਏ ਹਾਏ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕੌਣ ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕੌਣ ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਹੈ? ਕੌਣ ਕੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕੌਣ ਐਂਵੇਂ ਘਾਇਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਲੀ ਹੈ?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.
੩੦ਓਹੋ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੈਅ ਪੀਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਚਿਰ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਰਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it glideth down smoothly;
੩੧ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਲਾਲ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਮਕੇ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਹਿਜ ਨਾਲ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਉਤਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਵੱਲ ਨਾ ਤੱਕ।
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like a basilisk.
੩੨ਓੜਕ ਉਹ ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਡੰਗ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਠੂਹੇਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਡੰਗ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ!
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thy heart shall utter confused things.
੩੩ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਅਨੋਖੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਵੇਖਣਗੀਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਉਲਟੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਲਪਨਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ!
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
੩੪ਤੂੰ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੰਮਾ ਪਵੇ, ਅਥਵਾ ਮਸਤੂਲ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੇਟ ਜਾਵੇ।
35 'They have struck me, and I felt it not, they have beaten me, and I knew it not; when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.'
੩੫ਤੂੰ ਆਖੇਂਗਾ ਭਈ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਖਾਧੀ ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੀੜ ਨਾ ਹੋਈ, ਮੈਂ ਕੁੱਟਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਗਿਆ ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦੋਂ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ? ਮੈਂ ਫੇਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ!
