Proverbs 19
1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and a fool at the same time.
Meilleur est un pauvre qui marche dans son intégrité, qu'un homme aux lèvres fausses, qui est un insensé.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
A manquer de prudence il n'y a point d'avantage; et qui précipite ses pas, bronche.
3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way; and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
C'est la folie de l'homme qui gâte sa carrière; mais c'est contre l'Éternel que s'irrite son cœur.
4 Wealth addeth many friends; but as for the poor, his friend separateth himself from him.
La richesse procure beaucoup d'amis, mais le pauvre est abandonné par son ami.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that breatheth forth lies shall not escape.
Un faux témoin ne demeure pas impuni, et celui qui émet des mensonges, n'échappera pas.
6 Many will entreat the favour of the liberal man; and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Il y a beaucoup de flatteurs pour l'homme libéral, et tous les amis sont pour celui qui donne.
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him! He that pursueth words, they turn against him.
Tous les frères du pauvre ont de l'aversion pour lui; combien plus ses amis le quitteront-ils! Il se réclame de leurs promesses, … elles sont évanouies!
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Acquérir du sens, c'est aimer son âme; garder la prudence fait trouver le bonheur.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that breatheth forth lies shall perish.
Le faux témoin ne reste pas impuni; et qui profère le mensonge, se perd.
10 Luxury is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
Une vie de délices ne va pas à l'insensé; il va moins encore à l'esclave de commander aux princes.
11 It is the discretion of a man to be slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
La raison de l'homme le rend patient, et sa gloire est de passer une faute.
12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
La colère d'un roi est le rugissement du lion; mais sa faveur est comme la rosée sur la verdure.
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
Le malheur d'un père, c'est un fils insensé; et l'eau qui dégoutte d'un toit sans interruption, c'est une femme querelleuse.
14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers; but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
On hérite de ses pères une maison et des biens; mais une femme sensée, est un don de l'Éternel.
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
La paresse plonge dans le sommeil, et l'âme indolente sentira la faim.
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; but he that despiseth His ways shall die.
Qui garde le commandement, garde sa vie; qui néglige sa voie, subira la mort.
17 He that is gracious unto the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and his good deed will He repay unto him.
Celui qui donne au pauvre, prête à l'Éternel, et Il lui rendra son bienfait.
18 Chasten thy son, for there is hope; but set not thy heart on his destruction.
Châtie ton fils, pendant qu'il y a espoir; mais jusqu'à le tuer ne te laisse pas emporter!
19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou interpose, thou wilt add thereto.
Que l'emporté subisse la peine; car si tu l'en exemptes, tu devras y revenir.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Ecoute un conseil, et reçois les leçons, afin que tu sois sage dans la suite de ta vie!
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; but the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
Les projets du cœur de l'homme sont nombreux; mais le décret de l'Éternel, c'est ce qui s'exécute.
22 The lust of a man is his shame; and a poor man is better than a liar.
La bonté de l'homme fait sa gloire; et le pauvre vaut mieux que le menteur.
23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life; and he that hath it shall abide satisfied, he shall not be visited with evil.
La crainte de l'Éternel mène à la vie; on repose rassasié, sans être atteint de malheur.
24 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not so much as bring it back to his mouth.
Le paresseux plonge sa main dans le plat; mais à sa bouche il ne la ramènera pas.
25 When thou smitest a scorner, the simple will become prudent; and when one that hath understanding is reproved, he will understand knowledge.
Frappe le moqueur, le faible deviendra sage; avertis l'homme de sens, il entend raison.
26 A son that dealeth shamefully and reproachfully will despoil his father, and chase away his mother.
Il ruine son père, fait fuir sa mère, le fils impudent, et qui fait honte.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Cesse, mon fils, d'écouter des doctrines qui te détourneraient des paroles de la sagesse.
28 An ungodly witness mocketh at right; and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
Un témoin pervers se rit de la justice; et la bouche des impies se repaît d'iniquité.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Les châtiments sont prêts pour les moqueurs; et les coups, pour le dos de l'insensé.
