Proverbs 19
1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and a fool at the same time.
Mieux vaut le pauvre qui marche dans son intégrité que celui qui est pervers dans ses lèvres et qui est un fou.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Il n'est pas bon d'avoir du zèle sans connaissance, ni être pressé du pied et manquer le chemin.
3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way; and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
La folie de l'homme pervertit sa voie; son cœur se déchaîne contre Yahvé.
4 Wealth addeth many friends; but as for the poor, his friend separateth himself from him.
La richesse ajoute de nombreux amis, mais le pauvre est séparé de son ami.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that breatheth forth lies shall not escape.
Un faux témoin ne reste pas impuni. Celui qui répand des mensonges ne sera pas libre.
6 Many will entreat the favour of the liberal man; and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Beaucoup imploreront les faveurs d'un chef, et tout le monde est l'ami de l'homme qui fait des cadeaux.
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him! He that pursueth words, they turn against him.
Tous les parents des pauvres le fuient; combien plus ses amis l'évitent-ils! Il les poursuit avec des supplications, mais ils sont partis.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Celui qui acquiert la sagesse aime sa propre âme. Celui qui garde l'intelligence trouvera le bien.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that breatheth forth lies shall perish.
Un faux témoin ne reste pas impuni. Celui qui profère des mensonges périra.
10 Luxury is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
La vie délicate ne convient pas à un fou, et encore moins pour un serviteur de dominer les princes.
11 It is the discretion of a man to be slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
La discrétion d'un homme le rend lent à la colère. C'est sa gloire d'ignorer une offense.
12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
La colère du roi est comme le rugissement d'un lion, mais sa faveur est comme la rosée sur l'herbe.
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
Un fils insensé est la calamité de son père. Les querelles d'une femme sont un égouttement continuel.
14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers; but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
La maison et les richesses sont un héritage des pères, mais une femme prudente vient de Yahvé.
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
La paresse jette dans un profond sommeil. L'âme oisive souffrira de la faim.
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; but he that despiseth His ways shall die.
Celui qui garde le commandement garde son âme, mais celui qui est méprisant dans ses voies mourra.
17 He that is gracious unto the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and his good deed will He repay unto him.
Celui qui a pitié du pauvre prête à Yahvé; il le récompensera.
18 Chasten thy son, for there is hope; but set not thy heart on his destruction.
Disciplinez votre fils, car il y a de l'espoir; ne soyez pas complice de sa mort.
19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou interpose, thou wilt add thereto.
L'homme qui s'emporte doit en payer le prix, car si tu le sauves, tu dois le refaire.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Écoutez les conseils et recevez des instructions, afin que vous soyez sages dans la fin de votre vie.
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; but the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
Il y a beaucoup de projets dans le cœur d'un homme, mais le conseil de Yahvé prévaudra.
22 The lust of a man is his shame; and a poor man is better than a liar.
Ce qui fait qu'un homme est désiré, c'est sa bonté. Un pauvre homme vaut mieux qu'un menteur.
23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life; and he that hath it shall abide satisfied, he shall not be visited with evil.
La crainte de Yahvé mène à la vie, puis au contentement; il se repose et ne sera pas touché par les ennuis.
24 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not so much as bring it back to his mouth.
Le paresseux enfouit sa main dans le plat; il ne le portera même pas à sa bouche à nouveau.
25 When thou smitest a scorner, the simple will become prudent; and when one that hath understanding is reproved, he will understand knowledge.
Fouettez le moqueur, et les simples apprendront la prudence; réprimandez celui qui a de l'intelligence, et il acquerra de la connaissance.
26 A son that dealeth shamefully and reproachfully will despoil his father, and chase away his mother.
Celui qui vole son père et chasse sa mère est un fils qui cause la honte et apporte l'opprobre.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Si tu cesses d'écouter les instructions, mon fils, vous vous éloignerez des mots de la connaissance.
28 An ungodly witness mocketh at right; and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
Un témoin corrompu se moque de la justice, et la bouche des méchants engloutit l'iniquité.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Des châtimentssont préparés pour les moqueurs, et des coups pour le dos des imbéciles.
