Proverbs 18
1 He that separateth himself seeketh his own desire, and snarlest against all sound wisdom.
Conforme al deseo busca el apartado: en toda doctrina se envolverá.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may lay itself bare.
No toma placer el insensato en la inteligencia: mas en lo que se descubre su corazón.
3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
Cuando viene el impío, viene también el menosprecio; y con el deshonrador, la vergüenza.
4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters; a flowing brook, a fountain of wisdom.
Aguas profundas son las palabras de la boca del hombre; y arroyo revertiente la fuente de la sabiduría.
5 It is not good to respect the person of the wicked, so as to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
Tener respeto a la persona del impío, para hacer caer al justo de su derecho, no es bueno.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
Los labios del insensato vienen con pleito; y su boca a cuestiones llama.
7 A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
La boca del insensato es quebrantamiento para sí; y sus labios son lazos para su alma.
8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Las palabras del chismoso parecen blandas: mas ellas descienden hasta lo íntimo del vientre.
9 Even one that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.
También el que es negligente en su obra, es hermano del dueño disipador.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is set up on high.
Torre fuerte es el nombre de Jehová: a él correrá el justo, y será levantado.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own conceit.
Las riquezas del rico son la ciudad de su fortaleza; y como un muro alto, en su imaginación.
12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honour goeth humility.
Antes del quebrantamiento se eleva el corazón del hombre; y antes de la honra, el abatimiento.
13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and confusion unto him.
El que responde palabra antes de oír, insensatez le es, y vergüenza.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
El ánimo del hombre suportará su enfermedad: mas al ánimo angustiado, ¿quién le suportará?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
El corazón del entendido adquiere sabiduría; y el oído de los sabios busca la ciencia.
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
El presente del hombre le ensancha el camino; y le lleva delante de los grandes.
17 He that pleadeth his cause first seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.
El justo es primero en su pleito; y su adversario viene, y búscale.
18 The lot causeth strife to cease, and parteth asunder the contentious.
La suerte pone fin a los pleitos; y desparte los fuertes.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
El hermano ofendido es más contumaz que una ciudad fuerte; y las contiendas de los hermanos son como cerrojos de alcázar.
20 A man's belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
Del fruto de la boca del hombre se hartará su vientre: de la renta de sus labios se hartará.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that indulge it shall eat the fruit thereof.
La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua; y el que la ama, comerá de sus frutos.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a great good, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
El que halló mujer, halló el bien; y alcanzó la benevolencia de Jehová.
23 The poor useth entreaties; but the rich answereth impudently.
El pobre habla ruegos; mas el rico responde durezas.
24 There are friends that one hath to his own hurt; but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
El hombre de amigos mantiénese en amistad; y a veces hay amigo más conjunto que el hermano.
